Nothing good can ever come out of holding a grudge with someone. The Montagues and Capulets both had a huge hatred for each other, which lead to several fights and many deaths over many generations. This grudge was a huge reason why Romeo, son of Montague and Juliet, daughter of Capulet died. As well as, Mercutio, Tybalt, Paris, and Lady Montague.
Romeo met Juliet at The Capulet’s masquerade, which he went to to find Rosaline, but fell in love with Juliet instantly after seeing her. Shortly later Romeo and Juliet found out that they were from opposite families and because of this ancient grudge it would be forbidden for them to love each other.
Over the last week alone, if this grudge had not existed: Tybalt wouldn’t have killed Mercutio,
Romeo wouldn’t have killed Tybalt or Paris, Romeo wouldn’t have been banished and Lady Montague would still be alive. Also Romeo and Juliet would be able to be openly married and not have to love each other in secret. Romeo and Juliet’s lives did not have to end the way it did. But, because of this grudge it forced 2 lovers to become crazy, which led to them acting in such extreme ways. They decided death would be a better solution than being parted from one another. The two families have brought this grudge upon themselves several generations ago and since then nothing good has come of it. They could have easily solved things with one another, but their pride had to come in the way of them doing so. The right thing for Montague and Capulet to do right now is to end the ancient grudge between their families, so that none of these horrific tragedies happen between the two households. As you can see, nothing positive has came with this grudge, only several civil brawls, bloody deaths, and continuous hatred.
Romeo is in love with Rosaline at the very beginning of the story and has just found out that she has taken the vow of chastity. Meanwhile Lord Capulet has given County Paris Juliet’s hand in marriage if he can wait until she is sixteen. The Capulets have a party so that Juliet and the Count can meet and he can then woo her. When Romeo and Juliet first meet they are at the Capulet party, which Romeo sneaks into. They fall in love at first sight without realizing that they are enemies. Fate brings them together and it is fate that they are enemies.
In the Shakespearean play, Romeo & Juliet, aggression is represented in different ways by the different characters in the play. Tybalt, Romeo, Benvolio, and the others all have their own way of dealing with hate and anger. Some do nothing but hate while others can’t stand to see even the smallest of quarrels take place.
Conflict has many different meanings for both physical and verbal abuse. Conflict could be a viscous feud or a full on physical fight. These days in television soap dramas we intend to see more verbal conflict than physical violence. But over the last couple of years new television programmes have been released which contains a lot of action-packed fighting and physical conflict of some kind. Some programmes include physical and verbal conflict including, “Eastenders”, “The Bill” and other programmes similar to these. The releasing of films such as, “Indiana Jones”, and “Rambo” catches the audience’s attention by involving action-packed, exciting features such as heavy arguments or thrilling battles. Some films are made to include action and excitement but when audiences watch it they cannot help feeling sorry for the victim or just generally sad for the people having the fight. In the same way Romeo and Juliet presents conflict more intense than most soap dramas. When the play was first performed in “The Theatre”, in Shoreditch in the mid 1590’s, the Elizabethan audience was shocked at how Juliet disobeyed her father and also how Romeo and Juliet disobeyed their families. Sympathy must be felt for the audience because they would have never known the idea of a son or daughter disobeying their father. The law at that time stated that the daughter was the property of her father until the daughter got married then her husband “owned” her as property. From this sympathy must be felt for Juliet because she is a victim of arranged marriages. Near the beginning of the story the Capulets hold a party and some Montagues show up including Romeo. Juliet's father lets them stay and soon Romeo and Juliet meet for the first time. If they didn't have the party they would not have met in the first place. So Romeo and Juliet seem to get along and before the night is over they fall in love with each other and are basically inseparable. After killing Tybalt, a member of the Capulet family, Romeo is forever expelled from the city of Verona, Italy, where the story takes place. Prince Escalus of Verona plays an immense part in the effect of the Montagues’ and Capulets’ animosity towards each other. For the prince it is more of what he did not do than what he did. The prince lets the feuding families grow in enmity. He doesn’t take enough action to squash his rebellious subjects’ uproars, and when he does take action and punishes them, he is too lenient. The prince himself acknowledges his faults by saying, “And I for winking at your discords too. Have lost a brace of kinsmen. All are punished.”(Shakespeare Act. V: iii) And all are punished, but the ones who feel it the most are those who began the feud; the Capulets and the Montagues.
He married Juliet at Friar Laurence's and the couple had a great relationship. He enjoyed taking long walks, hanging out with his friends and fighting. His family and friends will always remember him as a strong and confident person. After being exiled, Romeo heard the news that Juliet, his wife and love, had passed away from an unknown cause.
From the very beginning of the story, Shakespeare asserts us how much hate the two family have for each other. In the opening scene in Verona, the two servant of different families, the Montagues and Capulets, start a fight between each other. Talking to Gregory, Sampson announce how he “will bite [his] thumb at [the Montague’s servant]” (1.1.44-5). This tells the reader that because the Montagues and Capulets dislike each other, so will anyone close to them. The quote shows that when someone is a close friend to someone, the friend will hold the same grudge as a way to show their loyalty to their friends. The feud meant that they had to keep their relationship under wraps and tip-toe around their families. The ancient grudge between the two families meant that if one member of either family found out about Romeo and Juliet then they would be killed, ‘If they do see thee, they will murder thee.’ The family feud between the Montague and Capulet families could also be held responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because they both grew up with people dieing within the families because of the grudge. For instance Mercutio and Tybalt, Mercutio was a very loyal friend of Romeo’s and Tybalt was Juliet’s cousin. The deaths of these characters meant that Romeo and Juliet were both distressed and unhappy, and thus could have given more reason to their own deaths, ‘ A’ Thursday let it be, a’ Thursday, tell her,
Given this point, it is unrequited love that brings Romeo and Juliet together. But this also means that they would have to get over the fact that their families hate each other. This eventually leads them to forgiving the rival family for all the hateful acts that have occurred against one another. This is not the only forgiveness that is experienced in this play. Tybalt is a Montague with a fiery attitude.
Does Romeo and Juliet show that good intentions are no match for anger? At the opening of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ we are told that, “Two households, both alike in dignity… From ancient grudge break to new mutiny.” This is the cause of both, Romeo and Juliet’s death and peace between the two families. Already, within the first three lines of the prologue, we are told what is going to happen.
Romeo and Juliet were not meant to be a couple and live their lives together. They did love each other, although their families long feud rejected their fate of being forever together. Within the play, Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare displays various events in which the characters convey the message that love can conquer all. The characters in this play continue to forgive the ones they love, even under harsh circumstances. Additionally, Shakespeare effectively demonstrates how Romeo and Juliet’s love for one another overpowers significant emotional scenes within the play, including the feuding between their two families. Furthermore, by the end of the play the reader sees how love defeats the shock of death and how Romeo and Juliet’s love ends the ancient feud between the Capulets and Montagues. Using these three events, the reader sees Shakespeare’s message of how love can conquer all. In the desperate battle between love and hate, Shakespeare believes love to be the more powerful force in the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet.
The emotions of love and hate are at the forefront of the theme in this play by William Shakespeare. The Oxford Standard English Dictionary defines ‘love’ as ‘to have strong feelings of affection for another adult and be romantically and sexually attracted to them, or to feel great affection for a friend or person in your family’ and defines ‘hate’ as ‘a feeling of dislike so strong that it demands action dislike intensely, to feel antipathy or aversion towards someone or something’. However, words cannot portray such wide and powerful emotions. Love and hate include elements of life, passion, long-term bonding and dislike, disgust and loathing respectively. It is because Shakespeare incorporates each of these elements into the play that Romeo and Juliet is the ultimate story of love and hate.
The play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is set in the fictional city of Verona. Within the city lives two families, The Capulets and the Montegues, who have been feuding for generations. One night there is a celebration held at the house of the Capulet's. At the party the only son of the Montegues, Romeo, and the daughter of the Capulets, Juliet, see each other from across the room. The moment their eyes meet we are supposed to believe that they instantaneously fall in love with each other. Because they are from two warring families their love would most likely be forbidden. Juliet's father has also promised her to his good friend Paris. Because the love between the young couple is so powerful they go to Friar Lawrence and they are secretly married. On the day of their marriage Tybalt, Juliet's cousin, challenges Romeo to a duel. In the midst of all this chaos, Romeo's best friend, Mercutio, is murdered by Tybalt. Romeo then slays Tybalt out of revenge. When the prince of Verona finds out what Romeo has done he banishes Romeo from Verona forever. When the friar hears of this he devises a plan so that the two lovers can be together.
