The environment that you grow up in influences everything about your life, ranging from how you speak and act to the kinds of activities you engage yourself in. For me, growing up in Michigan, I have learned to enjoy being outside no matter the weather. What kinds of activities I was able to do all depended on the season, but each has its own unique and enjoyable activities to be appreciated.
No matter how much I enjoyed sitting on the beach in Grand Haven or swimming in Lake Michigan, I can’t in January because the beach is under several feet of snow and the lake is frozen as far out as you can see. So, in the winter, I head north to experience the northern part of Michigan. Visiting little towns like Boyne or Gaylord, which have maybe a few thousand year round residents, but constant tourists. The hills are bigger, the snow is deeper, and the people are friendly. When you escape from the crowds you can take in the stillness of a cold winter day; seeing trees and roads blanketed in a thick layer of white snow produces a feeling of the land being untouched. It is an enormous change from life in the city, where the snow is usually a dirty brown and trees are scarce. There is also some of the best

Spring is finally upon us, just the increased amount of sun is a foundation for myself feeling happier. The snow starts to melt and give way to the hidden brown grass. This is my favorite time of year to take my dog, Steve, for hikes in the woods. Steve is growing older, so the hot summer days mean tougher walking conditions for him. A couple of years ago I found some great trails through the woods with a little stream so he can play in the water, like every Labrador should. It’s perfect for our walks, I always find a spot to hang my hammock allowing us to both relax and enjoy nature before the walk back to the
Environment says a lot about identity, past, and future. Primary environment has the most effect on shaping a child. According to a US National Library of Medicine research study, ”The physical environment and child development: An international review” it says, “What we do know suggests that the physical environment experienced by children impacts their cognitive and socioemotional development across the lifespan, from the prenatal period through adulthood.” In children this is especially important because a child develops most between the ages of two and five. There are three key elements that contribute to a healthy physical for young children, an adequate standard of living (mainly sufficient food, clothing, and housing), healthcare, and safety from injury, violence, and environmental hazards. In The Other Wes Moore, Wes(a) had
What exactly degree did environment shape every man 's life? Although both Wes Moore has an awful impact in their adolescence and their awful surroundings in light of the fact that they both live in the Bronx the (creator) Wes Moore 's Mom took him to tuition based school. His mother took him
From the moment, we are born the environment we are raised in makes a bigger impact on our lives than we think. If you were to live in a nice environment where streets are clean and people are educated, you are more likely to have a bright future. On the
I have been to a place that has lots of interesting snow and others. It is Lake Tahoe. It is a place that I will never get bored of that it has a lot of snow! Mostly you could do anything with snow. But most of all, beating your older brother up in a snowball fight. I really loved when each time I went down the big mountain. It was really amazing. I was also really happy of building snowmen and building snow forts that I never even knew I can build. It was amazing for all of what could be crafted with snow. The fantastic trip has come to the start!
The Creature That Opened My Eyes Sympathy, anger, hate, and empathy, these are just a few of the emotions that came over me while getting to know and trying to understand the creature created by victor frankenstein in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. For the first time I became completely enthralled in a novel and learned to appreciate literature not only for the great stories they tell but also for the affect it could have on someones life as cliché as that might sound, if that weren’t enough it also gave me a greater appreciation and understanding of the idiom “never judge a book by its cover.” As a pimply faced, insecure, loner, and at most times self absorbed sophomore in high school I was never one to put anytime or focus when it came time
As I drive to Edgewood the first thing that catches my eye is how the fields are just filled with corn and that's all you see for miles. The drive their helps you just clear your head and the country music is playing and you just look around and see how peaceful it is. When you get to the town it's very small a population of about 800. Not many people live there compared to Dubuque. It is the type of place where everyone knows everyone. When you first pull in to Edgewood you notice how old and antique everything looks and the if you have never been there before you will notice how the town just smells like farm. We keep driving through the town and you just keep seeing lots of corn. Then you go a couple miles down the road and you have finally
Three inches of fresh snow fell last night, creating a blanket of freshness that reflects the last rays of moonlight. As we drive into our property we see fresh deer tracks and my heart starts pumping, I have been away from Wisconsin for a few months and this morning is the first time I entered these woods since September. A few hundred yards into the woods we jump three deer walking the road. They bound off into the darkness in flashes of brown silhouetted by snow. We park...
It’s a Saturday morning sometime in November, I get up with a bright, white smile on my face, and I stumble into the bathroom and start curling my hair in the bright hotel bathroom. It’s just a normal weekend for me, waking up, teasing my hair up real big, putting the, what I like to call, “clown makeup” on, putting on my beautiful uniform, which can best be described as a black crop top and a skirt, with silver jewels lining the dark mesh on the arm sleeves, “EXTREME” covering the chest of the top in green and purple and the swirls of green and purple on the skirt along with our logo, the tiki man, grabbing my cheer shoes, and rushing to the competition. Of course, I was late, like always. Tammy would give me the same lecture over and over,
1.MOOD-ATTITUDE-First, a healthy lifestyle is essential to a person’s attitude which is improved in a warm climate. People tend to be moody in colder weather, rather than warm weather. For example, people who live in cold climates look forward to a trip somewhere warm in the winter months to improve their mood. There is a positive impact in mental health when the sun is out for most people, according to the University of Michigan research. "Life is full of color and life is fun. It's easy to forget that during the wintertime," says Agent J. Keller from University of Michigan. Therefore, warm weather has a positive impact on people’s moods and attitudes.
There are many different aspects of environment that can affect the development of children. One major environmental impact that influences the development of a child is the neighborhood they are raised in. Within the neighborhood there are several other aspect of influence. Where a child is raised can affect their behavior, attitudes, emotions, personality, values, health, and so much more. This can be seen in their personal lives at home to their social lives around others in classrooms. The affects of a child’s development due to their environment can be seen in both a positive and negative aspect. The neighborhood that a child is raised in can be very critical in their development. It may have a significant effect on what he or she becomes in the future.
Unfortunately this year has been an awful year for snow. As most people are used to michigan getting a lot of snowfall. A few years ago we got something like 3-4 feet of snow. Now i'm not sure why we don't have any snow but i'm sure that there is a reason. What that reason is is unknown. Some people would say it has to do with global warming… that might be the reason but i'm pretty
In my opinion, Brooks-Gunn’s argument that the aspects of your environment influences your development is a valid one. In my neighborhood, my peers were wonderful. Before I met them, I would typically just stay inside and watch television or play video games, and when I became friends with them, they would convince me to withdraw from my house to play with them daily. They convinced me to go to the park, play sports, or go on adventures through the neighborhood with them, and we would play outside from sunrise to sundown everyday. Thanks to my peers, I feel that I became more
You can spot the building from the highway with its bright blue and white exterior which displays “WALMART” in bold white letters but all everyone seems to notice is the hundreds of cars parked outside of the major corporation. From one end to the other cars fill the parking lot leaving no room for all others that are to come. People come and go all with carts filled of food and other items. All that is heard is the buzzing sounds of the cars that are being started and the humming of cars that are leaving but as the enter sign becomes more visible you can hear the constant chatter of the customers inside. From the moment I drove down barlow road onto Walmart's parking lot I could see dozens of shopping carts scattered and abandoned all throughout the lot it gave me an impression of unorganization it seemed as if Walmart didn't have cart pushers to do their job.
The lights turn on, and a voice says, “It’s time to get up.” I sit up and look around. I see a cabin full of girls waking up and getting ready to start their day. As I get up, I grab my clothes for the day from my suitcase and walk up the hill to the bathhouse. I return to the cabin in fresh clothes, ready for a day of fun. I make my bed while talking and laughing with my roommates. We work together and clean the cabin, while our counselor teaches us a memory verse. Soon, we walk up the hill to flag raising, where we raise the flag, take attendance, and say our newly learned memory verse. Where am I? I am at Seventh-day Adventist Summer camp.
About halfway between fall and spring, the weather gets colder and windy. Where there are hills of white five feet high everywhere you look. There are white roof tops and trees that are completely bare. This is winter-a fantastic array of white where children go play and some teenagers sit inside. Occasionally those teens will go out and dig huge caves in the wet compact snow, make objects out of the snow with their siblings, or do a family activity. The snow takes the form of snowmen and igloos in yards. You hear lots of laughter and love in the air from the kids and families who are out snowshoeing or sledding. Winter is a time where people come together and celebrate Christmas in the cold air. Winter smells like fresh morning dew all the
