Group Interaction in The Wu Tang Clan The Wu Tang clan is a nine-member hip-hop group that formed in 1992. Since 1992 the group has gone on to find success as a group and as solo artist. The Wu Tang Clan is easily one of the most influential hip-hop groups of all time. The group has taken aspects from every area such as kung fu to religion and blended them into a unique brand of music that is many times imitated but never duplicated. What makes the group able to blend such a wide varity of topics into its music is the diversity and ability of its members. The group consists of the Rza, Genius, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, U God, Old Dirty Bastard, Masta Killah, Reakwon and Ghost Face Killah. Each member brings their own style to the group which in the end allows the group to have a wide varity that encompasses all areas that needs to be touch within a true musical performance. The group can cover many areas when doing a song unlike other groups that can only do one musical style. All the members of the group are innate, strong songwriters who spark and complement each other. What is a group? The definition of a group is two or more interdependent individuals who influence one another through social interaction. According to this definition the Wu Tang Clan would be considered a group. To say that the Wu Tang Clan is a group based on just that definition would be incomplete, the group demonstrates many other characteristics of a group. First off, the group shows a great deal of interaction. Interaction is when group members do things to and with other. To break it down even more interactions can be broken down into tasks or socioemotional. In task interaction the group must interact to accomplish a goal. The Wu Tang C... ... middle of paper ... ...oup reaches it potential. As I stated earlier when the group is together performing as a whole all members reach their potential and so does the group. It's hard to say how the group demonstrates transactive memory. Transactive memory is when group members remember or do things that they fell that the other members of the group will not. The reason I say that its hard to tell if the group demonstrated transactive memory is because I fell that transactive memory is something that you d have to be within the group to fully recognize. I would have to have the much more access to the group to see how transactive memory is demonstrated. I feel that the fact that I don t fully see how transactive memory is being used is a good thing. It shows that the group works very well together, for the fact that they hide each others weaknesses so well that its not evident to a fan.
...es your life and everyone around you. No matter what anyone says, you are a lot different after your life (or another’s) has been placed in the hands of others. The boys not only matured a lot, but leadership roles emerged. It became obvious that Gordie was a leader in the group less than halfway through. And as groups tend to do, they relied on his leadership more and more until the end. The group was faced with the additional challenge of dealing with difficult group members. But the group discovered the concept of synergy when they found if they stuck together and used teamwork, they are a lot stronger unified than individually.
...group as they face more and more trials. Their small group triumphantly solved an important problem that affected each individual. As a group, they were much more suited to outwit "One-eyed" Willy’s booby traps, to outrun the underhanded Fratelli family, and to out do the rich people of the town by saving their neighborhood.
Underground hip-hop is filled with groups such as The Pharcyde, The Roots, Jigmastas, and Jurassic 5 who use live instruments to not only enhance their lyrical talents, but also to give audiences a great show. All four of these groups are dedicated to preserving hip-hop culture. Emcees battle to prove they are iller, Djs do the same thing, and breakers, break dancers, poppers, whatever you want to call them, continue the tradition of mixing their dance art form of popping, locking and spinning using the music to help create different techniques.
Stop for a moment and think how many times have you said “I'll kill you” to a person and actually killed that person? Two times? Three times? We all know that the answer is never unless of course you're actually a killer. This is what might or might not have happened with the boy who was accused of killing his father in the movie 12 Angry Men. Firstly, let's consider on the title of the movie itself which says “12 Angry Men.” Twelve is indicating the number of group members, angry is indicating the state of their temper, and men indicating their gender. So the title of the movie strongly connects to the name of the class “Group Communication Studies” because both involve a group, a goal and communication among the group members in order to achieve a common goal. The 96 minute film is all about a group of jurors sitting in a room on a very hot day to decide the fate of an 18 year old boy. Each judge had to come up with a decision— either the boy is guilty or not guilty of killing his father with a switch blade knife. The entire movie theme revolves around the group and how it completes its task. The group is so much involved in the discussion and there are so many conflicts that the members even forget to introduce themselves, hence the audience has to remember them by numbers of the order of their seating arrangement. This movie is a perfect detailed and visual example of how a group forms and develops over time, and most importantly the personality and approach of Jury number 8 gives an idea about how important it is to participate, speak up, and take a stance even in the early stages of the group formation. Each member's involvement and contribution to the group goal is important as it can reshape and change the dimensions of o...
Many people with the same hateful beliefs form groups to “take on” the specific people they hate. A typical gang is based on hating someone who isn’t like them.
With this article, Lamotte details the early history of Hip Hop with a focus centered on Afrika Bambaataa, who founded the Universal Zulu Nation (UZN). The UZN was founded as an organization to promote peace and positivity through the usage of Hip Hop, which, at the time, merely consisted of block parties in The Bronx. These block parties were initially gang led, with different styles of Hip Hop existing amongst different gangs, but Bambaataa succeeded in bringing these gangs together peacefully. This formed the basis for Hip Hop as both a musical genre, as each assimilated gang combined their techniques, and a cultural movement, as Bambaataa intended Hip Hop to provide a peaceful outlet for those in underprivileged communities a chance to speak. Because of this, Lamotte argues that the Hip Hop of today is, “exported far beyond its original social context,” (692) with genres such as Gangsta Rap or Trap Rap that seem to promote endless controversy is, he argues, is not what Hip Hop is
It features many guest appearances but the main artists on the album are Lil Wayne, Lloyd, Drake, Tyga, Nicki Minaj, Gudda Gudda, and Jae Millz. Majority of my favorite rappers are featured on this album. It is one of the biggest rap collaboration CDs of all time! The lead single “BedRock” by Young Money also happens to be one of my favorite songs. I absolutely love the word play and creativity all the artists use in this song. Metaphor after metaphor is used to paint a picture in your mind in every song. I listened to this CD over and over in the car when I was 16. The whole album is filled with great energy and a lot of
After watching the Pixar film “Inside Out”, it is easy to see how this film relates to small group communication. This film focuses on a twelve year old girl name Riley and how the emotions in her brain work throughout everyday experiences. The emotions Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust work inside headquarters of Riley’s brain, that is until Joy and Sadness accidentally wind up far from headquarters into long-term memory. I will be analyzing this film using concepts from the textbook such as group communication, group development, group membership, and diversity in groups.
What is groupthink? There is a simple definition for it, but is it truly that simple? The term groupthink refers to the inclination of group members to have the same opinions and beliefs; it frequently leads to mistakes. It often occurs without an individual being aware of it. Conflict is considered to be a harmful element when related to groups, but conflict is good when considering groupthink because it helps to eliminate the existence of a groupthink. The explanation sounds simple enough, but it is more complex than the description given.
Throughout the human existence people have always made art to express themselves and convey a message. In 1127, after a prince of the Song Dynasty fled across the Yangtze River to Hangzhou, the Southern Song Dynasty was established. The Southern Song Dynasty achieved a period of economic success, prosperity, and artistic creativity, despite the fact that the military was not exactly strong. The Southern Song Dynasty’s downfall did not come from problems within, but was overthrown by Mongols in 1279, marking the end of the Song Dynasty.
A group is defined as two or more individuals, interacting and interdependent, who have come together to achieve particular objectives (Robbins & Judge, 2009). At some point in all of our careers, we will be tasked with working within a group setting. This discussion board will focus on conformity and deviant workplace behavior, and how each can negatively affect the outcome of working within a group setting.
This assignment introduced me to the sound and message of the rapping duo: Black Sheep. The group consist of New York natives Dres and Mista Lawnge. My search for the album to review started with skimming through the table of context of Brian Coleman’s Check the Technique Volume 2 and listening to snippets of each album. I initially was going to review a 3rd bass album because of the familiar samples; however, one song from the Black Sheep album stood out and made this album a clear choice. In this assignment, I hope to examine most tracks on the album and analyze the collective message of this twenty-two track project.
Developing a group’s identity can be difficult as an identity is a multi-faceted project due to the clashing of multiple egos and personalities. The crucial points of development are: which team building perspective to work from, how to prevent role conflict and encourage role acceptance, and encourage personal and interpersonal cohesion which leads to group cohesion.
...onsidered miniscule today, they were the foundation for every form of rapping that is present today. People were amazed by Hollywood because prior to him nobody thought of creating rhyme schemes that were performed over entire songs. Other cultural aspects of hip-hop, to the ignorance of most people, can be contributed to the Nation of Gods and Earths. They were a cultural organization that developed their ideas after their founder, Clarence 13X, left the Nation of Islam. They are responsible for things such as the “b-boy stance”, which was a pose where one stands with their feet shoulder width apart and their arms crosses. They also pioneered several phrases that are indicative with the hip hop culture; for example, “What’s up G(shortened for of God) and “Peace.” They have a major role in establishing the hip-hop aesthetic, at least that of the late 70’s and 80’s.
