The film and the book contrast against each other greatly and because of this the story's present a different story from each other. While little changes are expected when texts are turned into films the one thing not expected to change is the great battles. These battles are crucial to the adventure and the hero; changing the battles ruins the story, even if it has the same plot.
In the first battle Beowulf goes against Grendel, a horrible monster who eats Hrothgar’s men at night. In the text Grendel comes at night,while the men are sleeping and unaware. This is also when Beowulf attacks with no armor or weapons and kills the great Grendel by himself. In the movie Grendel comes while everyone is awake. Since they are all awake they try to attack Grendel with weapons which only end up failing. Grendel seems to attack certain people in the film, like the queen and Hrothgar’s best man. In the text Grendel comes at night and Beowulf attacks him himself with his bare hands. Both the text and the film have Grendel’s arm ripped from his body so his mother can find him dying. …show more content…

In the text Grendel’s mother was more interested in killing Beowulf. However, the film showed her as a seductress who only wanted to lay with Beowulf in exchange for a kingdom.in both verions Grendel’s mother clearly plans out what she wants to do for revenge. This is proven in the text by how she kills only one man, and in the film by how she keeps her life. The text had a true battle that ended with Beowulf bringing her head make to the mead hall. The film did not have Grendel’s mother killed, but kept her alive throughout it. This causes the next battle in the film which makes it incredibly different from the
