Who doesn’t want a 100% green and cost effective school? You would be surprised how a few unpretentious changes can make our school such a superior place. Our walls and ceilings tragically lack cellulose insulation, permitting the cool air that the A/C worked so hard to produce seep out. The existing windows grant the heat from outside to attack our classroom’s temperature. To top it all off, the entire school sucks energy from the power grid like a plant sucks up water. Eco-friendly changes are not only simple, but just might break the grip of fossil fuels on our schools.
Enhancing our walls with cellulose insulation offers us an easy way to not only make our school more energy efficient, but more focused, too. Currently, the walls and ceilings license the cool air that our A/C worked so hard to produce ooze out without any opposition. With the manageable installation of cellulose insulation, the air does not escape effortlessly. Heating or cooling would not be required as much and would, therefore augment the school’s budget. An additional benefit of cellulose insulation is that it absorbs noise. Noise passes through the walls of a classroom fairly easily, meaning that one rowdy classroom or one boisterous student in a hallway will interrupt a class. Insulation either significantly muffles or even completely eradicates senseless noise produced by any source. For instance, I was once sitting in my history class, taking a very crucial test, when all of a sudden I hear the deafening scrape of rubber on tile. A child out in the hall was dragging his shoe on the ground, making a terrifying noise. ... advantage is that if the solar panels provide more energy than we need, and the battery is full, we can automatically sell our surplus electricity back to FPL. We can receive money off of solar panels if they are producing more electricity than needed. We would also be reassured that they would last for a very long time. Most have a 25 year warranty, and some function up to 40 years after they are purchased. On the whole, solar panels are not only a way to fabricate electricity and be “green”, but an opportunity to make money to fund the school, too.
The advantages of making our school 100% environmentally friendly are now as clear as day. All in all, having our school be friendlier to the planet by installing cellulose insulation, high efficiency windows, and solar panels is an effective way to expand our budget and increase student happiness and productivity.
At my school, I am an active member of a program called S.E.E.D., which stands for Students Ending Environmental Destruction. As a group, spread awareness about recycling, water conservation and remediation, climate change, and other environmental problems the world faces today. We make sure that every classroom has a recycling bin and informative posters above them. We have hosted movie nights where we provide healthy, GMO-free refreshments and show an educational film that relates to a current issues to spread awareness. We have also convinced our school to install stations that are specifically meant to refill water bottles as it encourages students to stop buying plastic bottles and wasting plastic. Taking care of the environment and educating our youth, the congressmen, women, and voters of tomorrow who will be the deciding factors of the earth’s health, and consequently the people’s health, is crucial to me.

Another technique implemented in Japan is the use of students as janitors: each day a group of students is assigned to clean their classroom. I believe that if the number of janitors in our schools must be reduced the students should play a part in keeping their environment tidy, be it out of goodwill or punishment. I see this as a great, economical opportunity to maintain the school’s image and promote service.
It was a lovely September morning of 2007 and I was fresh out of Teacher’s College. Naturally, everything was “beautiful” and “wonderful” as I walked into the large, stone building at 7:15 in the morning. I enjoy looking at my life in retrospect; I know that my sole purpose for getting to school that early was to be able to sit back and start my day on a peaceful note. Based on Laurel Nesbit, a program assistant in the Office of Sustainability here at UF, our campus manages to utilize 470,000 Megawatts of energy annually. This figure is generated from all the energy-consuming gadgets that operate on our campus on a daily bases. These gadgets include computers that are left turned on over the night even they are not in use, copiers, and the fume hoods in our laboratories. Admittedly, the success and the health of wellbeing of the students is contingent upon some of these equipment. For instance, the laboratories need the fume hoods in order to keep the experimenters safe. Instead of casting these necessities away, we can develop alternatives which will be capable of generating energy in order to compensate for the electricity that we endlessly
And while it isn’t a way to improve the quality, I support taking crucial steps to protect our health and those around us in this unhealthy climate. Local schools have recess policies. When the Quality Index reaches any condition beyond “good”, a health plan kicks in. Recess time is moved indoors or outside activity curtailed. One of my personal goals for the project was to learn as much as I could about the sustainability issue facing us. I did this by participating in all of the projects that were done throughout the semester. The main project that occurred during the semester was the personal sustainability goals that we each set for ourselves. While doing the actions that we pledged to do, we learned different things about sustainability that we never knew before. One of the things that I learned was that, at Clemson, it is hard for students who want to recycle to be able to recycle. There are not the necessary facilities nearby our student housing to place our recyclables. I also learned that some actions that should be done to be sustainable are hard to do in the society that we live in. One of these activities that we do is the needless driving that Americans do in general. Since we live in a moving society, it is sometimes hard to do. An easy thing that everyone can do is to recycle some of his or her wastes. This can be done for most people at little or no extra effort than just throwing your trash away.

Going green in the workplace is a new trend in business. I have already written about the obvious benefits of going solar. There are other benefits as well that decrease the impact on our earth over time. Solar panels and battery banks have a life of 25-35 years and don't need anything more than general cleaning, snow removal and monthly water filling. Solar energy is the cleanest and purest form of energy, allowing for cleaner air overall in our environment. There is great hope for a lot more solar panels to be installed worldwide.
People are always looking for ways to save money. By using “Green” computer components you can save money and energy. Everyone having a computer powered on days at a time can use up a lot of energy, which will lead to a large energy bill. There is a lot of different ways to adapt your computer to be more energy efficient. Using more energy efficient computer components and changing settings in your operating system will save you big. By purchasing more energy efficient components such as processors, hard drives and computer monitors you can make your computer consume less power thus saving energy.
There are many benefits of using solar water heaters. Sunlight is free and environmentally friendly and this planet has so much to use(“Getting better acquainted”). The sun’s energy is renewable, suns energy is all over the world (“Getting better acquainted”). Solar energy has many uses, and it can be stored and used. “Solar energy can be used in many ways to provide heat, lighting, mechanical power, and electricity” (“Getting Better Acquainted”). New steps are being made in solar technology to save resources. America will save so much money and many barrels of oil by switching to solar power, “Skyrocketing fuel prices and tax credit of nearly 30% established in the energy policy act of 2005”(“Tapping into the sun”). The solar water system won’t cost much only “$3000 to $6000” (“Tapping into the sun”) so it will be affordable. “The technology can cut the average family’s costs to heat water by 20 to 40 percent (as much as 90% in some southwestern regions)”(“Tapping into the sun”).
When the sun heats the panel, it generates clean energy, which does not pollute the environment. All in all, the costs of solar power might not be applicable when it is certainly the best way to have a clean environment.
