Ποσειδών (Poseidon) Poseidon is one of the strongest gods in Greek mythology. Poseidon was the god of water, horses, and earthquakes. He was thought to be the reason for boat wrecks, and drowning’s. Cronus and Rhea are the parents of Poseidon in Greek mythology. Poseidon is one of the 3 sons; the others are Hades and Zeus. And there three sisters were Demeter, Hestia, Hera, and while Cronus was the horrible father who feared his own children so he ate them at birth. He continued to eat the newborns until his wife tricked him by giving him stones instead to save Zeus. But sadly Poseidon (and Hades) was eaten by Cronus to save them Zeus (who was being raised by nymphs) became Cronus’ cupbearer. He poisoned Cronus and he threw up Poseidon. They started a war against Cronus it lasted for ten years until the brothers released the Cyclopes and in return they gave the each a weapon. Poseidon received a trident, Zeus a lightning bolt, and Hades the helmet of darkness. They used the weapons to beat Cronus and the other titans. They drew lots to see who got what Poseidon got the sea, Zeus got the sky, and Hades got hell. One time Poseidon got so angry he caused up storms and earthquakes everywhere. To stop his sad feelings, Poseidon wanted to find a bride. On his way, he stumbled upon the mermaid Amphitrite, a sea nymph with golden hair and sparkling blue eyes, dancing on the island of Naxos with her friends. Taken by her extraordinary beauty, Poseidon couldn't help but falling in love with her and asked her to be his wife. Poseidon eventually lost. To avenge the loss he punished the residents by flooding the plain of Attica. And wherever Poseidon goes he rides in a golden chariot drawn by two white horses with gold manes and brass hooves. Unfortunately Poseidon was quick to anger. The reason I chose Poseidon was because Poseidon is awesome if he was actually real, but he is not. Plus I thought it would be cool if I could have all the powers he has. Poseidon would never of had died if he was real but only if people would stop of worshiping him he would of have disappeared. ...so associated with clouds, rivers, and oceans. Known to be omnipotent and omniscient, there was great respect for Varuna as believers thought the god kept watch over the entire universe. Varuna is depicted on a chariot led by seven swans with an umbrella placed overhead. He has four arms in which he holds a lotus, a noose, a conch, and a vessel of gems. In the article “Stories of the Trojan War,” it talks about how the gods are raged by the disobedience of the mortals which caused uproar during the time (Peabody). One of the gods that seemed to have a raging authority was Poseidon, god of the sea. He made the journey of Odysseus very hard. For instance, Poseidon would make the sea’s rage, blew Odysseus and his crew off track, and last he strikes them with thunder. That ultimately destroys the crew; except for Odysseus who is left stranded until found by Calypso (Puchner). The actual cause of Poseidon’s anger was due to the fact that Odysseus had killed Poseidon’s son, Polyphemus in a horrific manner. Also, because Odysseus was not appreciative of the fact that Poseidon helped keep his secret of his plot to invade with the

To begin with, Poseidon abuses his power by constantly tantalizing Odysseus as he tries to reach home. While the gods discuss Odysseus’ fate, Zeus vocalizes, “Poseidon must relent for being so quarrelsome will get him nowhere, one god, flouting the will of
However, not taking anything away from Odysseus, I believe that many people in his case would have taken the chance to kill all the men that tried to get with their wives if they were away. I believe it took lots of courage to wrestle with Poseidon, leave islands with beautiful women, and his use of intelligence to beat the Cyclops was great.
The Odyssey has a lot of god’s but Odysseus gets the wrath of Poseidon because he punctures Poseidon’s son’s eye. The ancient Greeks worshiped gods-just like the Egyptians-for different reasons altogether. Yet each god had their own importance to the world, they believed Apollo would drive his chariot across the skies to bring light to the world, and Aphrodite would keep people in love of what they are doing and love for other people, just to name two gods and their reasons. Zeus was the most powerful god, ruler of the skies, overseer of oaths, and bringer of the downfall of the Titans. Poseidon was the second most powerful god, ruler of the sea, creator of the horse, earth shaker, and storm bringer. Hades was the third most powerful god, ruler of the underworld, controller of the dead, and keeper of the earth’s riches. Out of all of the 12 major gods, these three gods were the most powerful and influential in the Greek belief, called the big three.
Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty, later rose from the sea where Uranus's body had been thrown. Now Cronus became king of the universe. Cronos married his sister, Rhea, and they had six children. At the time of Cronos's marriage to Rhea, Gaea prophesied that one of his children would overthrow Cronos, as he had overthrown Uranus. To protect himself, Cronos swallowed each of his first five children -- Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon -- immediatly after birth.

Isa Diaz - Poseidon: Poseidon is the god of the sea and protector of all aquatic features. He is Zeus and Hades’ brother. He is widely worshipped by seamen. He can be distinguished with a Hawaiian shirt, shorts, flip-flops, and most commonly known, a three-pointed trident. He married Amphitrite, one of the granddaughters of the Titan Oceanus. Poseidon is the god of horses because at one point he wanted Demeter to be with him (as in lovers). To deter him, Demeter asked Poseidon to make the most beautiful animal that the world had ever seen, and trying to impress her, Poseidon created the first horse. In some versions, Poseidon’s first attempts were unsuccessful, and he created a bunch of different animals in his quest, and by the time he had
One special morning in Mount Olympus, today was the day Poseidon was going to be crowned the Kings of all the Gods and Goddesses for defeating Zeus with his cruelty. Poseidon had defeated him in a duel to see who is the better king with the most strength and the encounter ended with Zeus losing all his powers making him human. Although he was officially one of the supreme gods of Mount Olympus, he spent most of his time in his watery empire. Secondly, having a Greek god that is common in mythical stories but not in movies will put a modern day twist on media entertainment, lastly, he teaches an important lesson; to forgive.
