College can be overwhelming for many incoming freshmen. A whole new school with new people is intimidating. Joining an on campus organization can ease that process. Millions of college students nationwide decide to join the greek life to enhance their college experience. Many students decide to join the greek life because of the opportunities offered, such as a support system, philanthropy, and career opportunities.
Starting college without knowing anyone is difficult. Joining any type of organization is a great way of meeting new people and making new friends. By joining a fraternity or sorority you gain a whole group of friends, or as known within themselves, brothers and sisters. These groups of people form a bond so strong that it becomes a family bond, making students feel at home while going through the college transition. They help raise awareness and money to help certain charities. Philanthropy, giving to those in need, plays a big role in Greek life. Every Greek organization has a specific charity case they raise awareness and money for. The sorority Alpha Chi Omega focuses on domestic violence, they have a multitude of resources to help educate many on the issues of unhealthy relationship. On the Alpha Chi Omega website they list the variety of resources, one being “Let’s Talk Love.” “Let’s Talk Love” focuses on teaching those members of the sorority and others how to identify an unhealthy relationship and how to get the proper help(Alpha Chi Omega). Raising awareness as well as money for causes creates a positive impact. Social issues become apparent to other students on campus, inspiring them to help other organizations dedicated to help those in need.
