The company reaches out to people who have digestive problems with Activia, those who want a healthier snack, or someone who just wants a delicious treat. One of the most recent products added to their line-up is greek frozen yogurt (Why is Activia). The “Dannon Oikos- Greek Frozen Yogurt” advertisement uses effective celebrity endorsement, relatable situations, and strong facts to convince any shopper to buy their product.
The advertisement effectively utilizes ethos by implementing a popular celebrity to endorse their product, which in this case is John Stamos. He is well-known for playing the handsome Uncle Jesse in the family sit-com Full House, but nowadays he is regularly starring in Dannon Oikos Greek Yogurt commercials. John Stamos is still considered an “iconic” man and a great actor, so his continuous appearances in Oikos commercials make the advertisements popular. But it’s entry into the dessert market was a distinct failure—consumers complained that it tasted too much like yogurt. Relaying on consumer demand for a sweet product that tasted like ice cream, TCBY opened its first store in 1981. The highest popularity comes to Fro-yo by the mid 1990s. But in the late 1990s as Americans turned their attention to high-protein, high-fat diets, demand for frozen yogurt slowed considerably. Low-fat foods such as frozen yogurt fell out of favor as food trends preferred higher fat and lower cost ice cream at the turn of the millennium. Trends changed back to frozen yogurt in the mid 2000s with the advent of live probiotic powder-based mixes. In this essay, I will analyze the rhetorical devices, such as ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos, as well as the fallacies corresponding to each device, that the Dove Company uses in their self-esteem project .

The ad I decide to analyze as an example is the commercial snickers used during the Super Bowl in 2010;”Betty White”-Snickers. This commercials starts off with guys playing a game of football with an elderly women know as Betty White. As Betty White tries to play football she is tackled to the ground. Her teammates refer to her as Mike when they come up to her to ask why she has been “playing like Betty White all day”. This helps inform the audience that Betty White is not actually playing but instead represent another teammate. As the guys keep arguing Mikes girlfriend calls her over and tells her to eat a snicker. Betty White takes the first bite and then suddenly a man appears in her place ready to finish the game. At the end of the commercial the statement "You're not you when you're hungry" is shown followed by the Snickers bar logo. Pantene is a company who has been around for a while and is big on making women all around the world feel beautiful, which means they are credible because they have the experience and care enough about their customers to be a trusted hair care company. Selena Gomez is also an Ethical appeal because people she feels women should feel happy and healthy in their own bodies or in this case, hair. Commercials advertising food can be seen on television all the time. The advertising industry is always trying to make one food look better than another does. Often, using professional athlete endorsements does this. At any given time there is at least two professional sports season in session. By using current stars and heroes from those sports to promote their foods, companies try to increase their sales.
The term ethos describes an appeal to credibility or character. They do a great job establishing credibility because the athletes are seen performing with the drink, which in turn, would persuade viewers to believe that if they drink Gatorade that they will perform at the same level. The people in the commercial are able to directly link their greatest successes and failures to Gatorade by making it seem that it was a major part of their success. This helps build the credibility of all of the athletes in the ad because everyone wants to be able to believe that people like these athletes would know most about the energy drinks that fuel them in live games. Many people don’t realize how effective ads really are. One example is an advertisement for High Definition Television from Samsung. It appears in an issue of Entertainment Weekly, a very popular magazine concerning movies, music, books, and other various media. The magazine would appeal to almost anyone, from a fifteen-year-old movie addict to a sixty-five-year-old soap opera lover. Therefore the ad for the Samsung television will interest a wide array of people. This ad contains many attracting features and uses its words cunningly in order to make its product sound much more exciting and much better than any television would ever be.
