Attributes of a Great Teacher
When I was in high school, I had various teachers in every class, but my University prep teacher was special among all the teachers. She was genuinely dedicated to all the students in her class, and she never forsook the students who those needed help. She was supportive, passionate, amusing, and most importantly devoted to every student in her class. Currently there are numerous teachers having a mindset of just doing their job instead of being more valuable for students. Every teacher who makes the students feel special about them have high attributes. There are three main attributes of a great teacher, such as devotion to the students, eagerness to have a significant modification, and being inspirational.
First, devotion to the students is one of the attributes of a great teacher has. A movie called “Stand and Deliver” (1988) shows a great teacher with a high devotion. In the movie, there is a teacher named Mr.Escalante, who was absolutely devoted to the students. He never forsook on any students and was dedicated to makimg his students succeed.

“What makes happier teachers” (2014) states that, as the demeanor of the students gets worse, the teacher feels unsatisfied inversely. However, great teachers do not give up because of this, great teachers modify the student’s demeanor. As an example, my class in the sophomore year of high school was chaotic by having a lot of students dropping out, but my Japanese history teacher, who was my homeroom teacher modified how to teach students and improved them by being cooperative more between the students. Nowadays, most teachers do not have the spirit and the eagerness to improve their classes through all the obstacles, which is why a proportion in a bad way for the teachers and the students. Therefore, eagerness to have a significant modification is one of the attributes of a great teacher
As I read these articles, I agreed with almost everything that was said. The Great Teacher Question: Beyond Competencies, by Edward R. Ducharme begins with a sentence that basically sums up my reason for teaching, “I begin this essay by defining a great teacher as one who influences others in positive ways so that their lives are forever altered” (Ducharme, 1991 p. 2). Over the course of a student’s education they will have many teachers, but there are maybe only one or two who are THE teacher. The teacher who impacts this child’s life in a positive way forever. The rest of the articles follow this same theme, suggesting ways that teachers can become THE teacher. One of the most important qualities I found in these articles (and one I
Another important quality of an outstanding educator is competence. Outstanding teachers are highly capable. They know how to do their job, and they do it very well. They are smart, well ed...
The videos embedded within the article gives a clear depiction of what a “good” teacher appears and acts like in front the classroom. These examples derive from actual teachers working with Teach for America illustrating a successful teacher and classroom. Although the Motivator, Tour Guide, Manager, and Connector are all great examples for teachers, current teachers should not epitomize and mimic one example but parallel all. I believe that a great teacher includes qualities from all four examples. Great teachers should not only be able to stimulate and induce an interest in learning but also engage with the projects and lessons, transcends discipline, and be able to incorporate modern ideas and experiences within the classroom. Becoming just the Motivator or just the Tour Guide will not have an effective education onto his or her classroom. But keep in mind, like the title states: what makes a great teacher? What makes him or her different from other teachers? And lastly, what are they doing different?
With the use of guidance and a democratic classroom, children feel important and have greater respect for their teacher, which in turn causes the students to feel more inclined to exude positive behavior.... ... middle of paper ... ... (EDC, personal communication Oct 6 & 13, 20011)
Along with finding my passion for theater, I also found one of my favorite teachers during my time in Junior High. His name was Mr. Rodrigue, and he was my homeroom and science teacher for both seventh and eighth grade. He was one of the first teachers that was every real with me. He was a very open and honest teacher who treated his students like adults. Mr. Rodrigue had this wit and sense of humor that made him more personable than any of my other teachers. I loved how he gave everyone in our homeroom nicknames, for instance, mine was “Higgy-Baby”. To this day I do not know how he came up with a name like that, but I know that while I was in his classroom, I was never called just Alyssa. While I learned many new and interesting things in his science class, I remember more of the life lessons that he taught during homeroom. He was one of the teachers that was there for me when life got rough, he looked out for me during and outside of class. For me, knowing that I had him keeping an eye out for me made me feel
To be an outstanding educator, one must be motivated, engaging, involved, caring, & knowledgeable. Teaching brings aspects of about fifty jobs into one. An outstanding educator is motivated. Each morning, students come into the classroom expecting a teacher that is smiling & ready to begin a great day.
To begin, we need to understand the nature of students. The nature of students varies between individuals. The majority of students are well-behaved and come to school ready to learn. Part of this is due to the way they have been raised, but most students are basically good. There is a small percent of students whose nature, it seems, is to make everyone miserable. I do not know if this is because of a difficult childhood at home or because the student just likes to be the center of attention. Either way, there are always students that will give their teachers a hard time. I guess this is their nature. Every individual is different, therefore, the nature of the students I will teach some day will be different depending on their background and other various things that may happen to them as they grow up. For example, a student that has lost a sibling due to an illness or accident, may become very bitter throughout life. The nature of this student’s behavior which is being shaped by this may make this student a cold-hearted and mean student. These are the students that teachers need to spend extra time with and try to make them feel loved, no matter how hard this may be. I, as a future teacher, need to look at students and try to help them out no matter how difficult that may be.
I’ve had teachers who taught in a way that was a good way for them to teacher, but wasn’t a good way for students to learn. I know I want to be a high school teacher, and by the time they will reach my class, my students should know how they should be presented the information, so that they can learn in such a way that is best for them. A teacher should be able to teach in a way that’s suitable for the majority of students, and be able to give extra help to those who don’t learn as the other students do. I want to be the teacher who is willing to put in extra time with the students for their classroom
Characteristics of effective teachers are clarity and organization, warmth and enthusiasm. When teachers are organize the classroom runs a lot smoother. Teachers who have enthusiasm found the students have achievement gains and students tend to enjoy school. Pedagogical content knowledge is when teachers combined academic content with know how to teach the content that matches instruction to student differences. Expert teachers know the academic subjects they teach, general teaching strategies, the curriculum materials and programs appropriate for their subject and grade level, subject-specific knowledge for teaching, the characteristics and cultural backgrounds of learners and goals and purposes of teaching. These allow teachers to be successful
Being a teacher is not an easy task as many people could think. To be a teacher does not only imply to know the subject to be taught, it also includes being willing to constantly improve oneself integrally, as much as updating the resources and materials one uses in teaching. Reflecting and analyzing over and over again the best way to teach to learn and how to make students to extend what has been learned. The many hours spend in the classroom will never be enough to plan lessons, prepare materials, review pupils tasks and exams, as well, all the administrative requirements one has to cover for whatever institution we work. Besides all this a good teacher, a professional one, will have to find the time to keep preparing to improve oneself.
An effective teacher will excite, inspire and motivate students to be active in their learning, investigate new areas of knowledge and make connections to future learning (Whitton et al 2010). When a teacher is successful, their students are motivated, mutually respectful and ready to build on their knowledge and solve real-world problems. To be a teacher of value, one must have many skills and qualities to cater for a diversity of learners and their individual development; this includes many personal traits that are noticed students.
There are many things which make a teacher great and they all can`t be defined. However i`ve always considered several of them essential. In my opinion a good teacher is someonewho first of all creates interest in studying, doesn`t underestimate the children, has equal expectations of siccess from everyone and last but not least likes his job.
Teaching with the right beliefs is the best way to create a magical classroom atmosphere. Teachers teach students character that will help them assess the consequences of and accept responsibility for their choices. Teachers help foster civic futures which ultimately influence our nation and the world as a whole. Teachers have a tremendous responsibility by teaching and influencing the next minds of our nation. If you aren’t in teaching for the right reasons, a lot of damage can be done.
One good quality a teacher should have is, respect for the students. Each person’s ideas and opinions should be valued and not judged. They should be able to express themselves without feeling insecure. Another good quality is, having high expectations for your students. Each student should be encouraged to do their best and achieve goals that they may have never met before. Another good quality is, I believe a teacher should have is good communication skills. They should keep not only the students informed on what is going on in the class, they should definitely keep the parents informed as well. Teachers need to know how to communicate with all their students because some are at different levels than others.
A Teacher Holds the Key to Knowledge, Success, and Fun The greatest gift a teacher can give students is a positive learning experience that lasts a lifetime. An outstanding teacher is a good role model, fair, consistent, and open to new ideas. A good teacher can motivate and entertain without students realizing the learning process it taking place. It is a great achievement for a teacher to see the “light bulb” come on over a student’s head when he/she understand a problem or can figure out an equation.
