Great Recession 2008-2009 When mentioning the Great Recession it is usually linked to the Great Depression because it had a similar economical effect on the nation. The unemployment went down, poverty rates increased, families had little too no resources left, and lastly it was hard for that economy to recover quickly.
The Great Recession began in December 2007 and ended in June 2009, making it the longest recession ever since World War II. During the Great Recession the GPD known as the real gross domestic product fell 4.3 percent. The unemployment rate rose from 5 percent to 9.5 percent and in October 2009 it then increased to 10 percent. Soon the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act had increased to about 31 billion dollars because they were creating projects to help individuals. Even five years later the US economy was still running 5.1 percent below the potential GDP during the first quarter of the 2014. According to a report from Country Financial 3 people a decade later still say they have not recovered from the recession.
According to Doyle Williams, Chief marketing of Country Financials, one reason for slow recovery is the job skill gap. The economy has not been strong enough to create the jobs needed. Bureau of Labor Statistics has focasted that the unemployment rate won’t go down to 6.5 percent until 2021. Until 2021 the economy will not achieve the full recovery from the recession.
In conclusion, individuals in the United States have different opinions on whether the economy is recovering from the Great Recession. The recession did not only cause a move in the market negatively but affected the economy, real estate agencies, interest rates, and resources such as medicare and family assistant. The economy has stared to get better and the prime age group (24-52) have started to get their jobs back. Yet there are still individuals struggling during this recovery, because of this recessions
