Compare and Contrast Essay Both texts “ Great Effects of the Great Migration” by NBC news and “ One-way Ticket” by Langston Hughes have many similarities and differences. The purpose of the article by NBC news is just to inform readers with statistics. The purpose of the poem by Langston Hughes is the emotional way to give a piece to someone. To start, both pieces talk about the Jim Crow laws. The poem states it in a bad way saying “I am fed up with Jim Crow laws, people who are cruel and afraid, who lynch and run, who are scared of me and me of them.” This is saying how emotionally bad they hate the Jim Crow laws. How they wish they would go away. In the article by NBC news it states “...Discrimination of the Jim Crow south in search of better lives.” The informational way of saying how it is bad and how people wish they could move away from the laws. …show more content…

This is a lot different from the poem because the poem is the emotional way of explaining the Great Migration. For example the poem talks about how Langston hates the south and wishes to move away from it so maybe he can live a better live in the north.
