“Summer lovin’ had me a blast, summer lovin’ happened so fast” popular lyrics from a song from the timeless classic musical Grease, about two teens who fall in love in the 1950s. It stars John Travolta as Danny Zuko, a greaser who is the leader of the “T-Birds” and Olivia Newton-John who plays Sandy Olsson, an Australian “goody two shoes” visiting California for summer vacation. During their time spent together at the beach, they fall in love, only to be torn apart at the end of the summer when she has to move back to Australia with her family. What he does not know is that she does not move back, and on the first day of school, Sandy befriends a popular group of girls known as the “Pink Ladies” who are all friends with Danny. It is a universal way to show feelings for oneself. Art is appreciated mostly for its emotional effect on people because the pieces make people feel a certain way. That is also why movies are considered art. The actors act a certain way to make the audience feel a certain way toward the movie. The movie is a hit because it contains humor, singing and dancing, so it applied to many types of audiences. This movie is a work of art because it tells a story, as most art pieces do. It is a love story with a twist which is what makes it funny. This movie is a 7.2 out of 10 because of its creativity and its flow (IMDb.) It was fun to watch and would recommend it to anyone who has not seen it. Parental guidance would be a good suggestion for those under the age of 13 because it features smoking, drinking and some sex related scenes but it is not graphic. The actors chosen to act in this movie flowed well together and made the love story very believable for the audience. Overall, the movie Grease had a great sense of humor and a very fun positive outcome for the love interests. Although changing yourself to make someone love you is not ideal and an awful message to send to the audience watching the
During the Talladega 500, Cal Naughton Jr., Ricky Bobby's former best friend, pulled ahead of Ricky, allowing him to slingshot around his car and pass Jean Girard. Though Cal and Girard were teammates at Dennit Racing, Cal disregarded this and jeopardized his team's success to aid Ricky in the movie Talledega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. This moment was crucial to Ricky, he having fallen from grace, going from NASCAR's top driver to being let go by Dennit Racing. The love Cal exhibited was a selfless form of love that was centered entirely around Ricky's happiness, not his own. Because of this selflessness, Cal compromised his own agenda, winning for Dennit, and disregarded personal consequence in hopes that Ricky would win the race. If you truly love someone as Cal loved Ricky, you must sometimes compromise your own interests for their benefit.
The entire movie is littered with anxiety. The movie makes you anxious as to what may happen next. This primary example is the scene where Skeeter ask Aibileen to tell her personal stories for the book Skeeter is writing. This rose a very serious anxiety in both women. Skeeter also found other maids to also share their personal stories. This scenario caused extreme anxiety because in that day and time if you were to publish or talk about what the maids have to endure, you could be prosecuted or maybe even killed.
I chose to view and analyze the film The Boondock Saints. There were many different things I focused on while viewing the film. I decided to brake them down into the following categories: narrative, theatrical elements, cinematography, sound, and the overall experience. I will begin with stating my personal interpretations and understandings of the narrative.
“There once was a time in this business when I had the eyes of the whole world! But that wasn't good enough for them, oh no! They had to have the ears of the whole world too. So they opened their big mouths and out came talk. Talk! TALK!” (Sunset Boulevard). The film Sunset Boulevard directed by Billy Wilder focuses on a struggling screen writer who is hired to rewrite a silent film star’s script leading to a dysfunctional and fatal relationship. Sunset Boulevard is heavily influenced by the history of cinema starting from the 1930s to 1950 when the film was released.
The film that interested me for this assignment was “Boyz n the Hood”. The movie was about a Los Angeles neighborhood expanding of drug and gang culture, with increasingly tragic results. It was about how one teen had family support to guide him on the right path in life regarding the social problems around him. The other two teens in the film wasn’t as fortunate and fell into the social problems of drugs, violence, and gangs; where one ended up dead.
The sub genre “Hood Movies” was first introduced in American movies where most of the movies exposed problems with/by/from black protagonists. The movies from this genre are mostly debunkers portraying problems like drug abuse, racial discrimination with blacks, gang rapes, street gangs, hip hop music, Maras, shattered familial problems, illegal immigration, poverty and etc. Most of the films from this genre, typically have a very similar story line like “An urban Black youth facing problems either with poverty or immediate danger in the neighborhood.” This quality present in any movie depicts Hood Films.
What if I told you that I know the outcome of your life and where you will end up before you even know it? Wouldn’t you be scared? See for a regular person who has a supporting family around them this question will almost feel almost like a death sentence. Nobody wants anyone to judge them before they even go through life on what they will end up being.
In Grease one the music was Catchy and relatable, with every verse there was a connection with some part of my life. The song Summer Days is the perfect song for reminiscing over a crush or dream guy. Thinking of long romantic hours spent together. When I think of Summer Nights I think of a romantic summer fling that could have last together. Another one of my favorite song that I can relate too is You’re the One That I Want. That song is like a good girl turned bad anthem; that song gives girls “She’s all that” vibe. Point is the songs that they
In this paper I am going to write about the movie “Grease.” Specifically, on the two main characters Sandy and Danny. I will be describing and analyzing their interpersonal communication, but mainly on the conflict of their communication.
I am writing a film review on the 1976, classic movie Rocky. In this review I will explore the main character Rocky, along with secondary characters Adrian, Pauley, and Mick. I will compare Rocky’s self-concept and self-esteem to the secondary characters. Identify whether the characters are nourishing or noxious individuals. Finally, we will describe how the main character is perceived by other characters.
In 1999, Disc Jockey Doug “Greaseman” Tracht made a racist comment on air during his morning radio show. He was suspended indefinitely from WARW radio station. WARW General Manager, Sarah Taylor, released an apology for his comment. Greaseman didn’t release an apology until months later. But while looking through his past and analyzing his one and only apology, it appears it may not have been a sincere apology. It doesn’t seem he is a man who learns from his mistakes but more so a man who is trying to receive forgiveness for his job back.
On March 24th, 1972, one of the most widely celebrated and renowned films of all time was released to the public. Ranked number two on the American Film Intitutes 100 Years... 100 Movies list, The Godfather by Francis Ford Coppolla is an enormous, groundbreaking film whose power and influence are impossible to deny. Upon its release, it instantly became an American classic, one to be remembered and celebrated for years to come. Gone Girl, a book written by Gillian Flynn, is a compelling mystery and drama focused on the disappearance of a woman named Amy. Two years later this thrilling novel was turned into a nail biting , suspenseful film, directed by David Fincher. Rather you read the book or not, this movie is worth the hype and experience on a Saturday evening. One particular scene, involves Amy (played by Rosamund Pike) changing her identity and going into hiding, at a motel. She develops habits to disguise herself after being plastered on television, billboards, and magazines. Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, both acted amazingly, capturing the roller coaster mentality and reality of these two characters. The production of this film was astounding; creating a visual image through the sound track alone.
Now known as a Christmas classic, It's a Wonderful life was directed by Frank Capra in 1946. The setting takes place Christmas Eve in Bedford Falls. If I meet the wrong person or being forced to do something, I should reject and leave immediately. This movie brings a lot of thinking about sexuality, sexual orientation and gender issues, and it does influence audiences in many different
