The United States Constitution a Graphic Adaptation by Jonathan Hennessey and Aaron McConnell:
Judge, Jury, and Evaluationer’
The Constitution is difficult to read because of the subject matter and the 18th century verbiage. I am fascinated by politics and history, but reading and interpreting the Constitution can be tedious in high school and beyond. There are many methods to gain understanding of the Constitution, and the Graphic Adaptation by Jonathan Hennessey and Aaron McConnell is an excellent introduction to a document that should be comprehensible to every American.

Constitutional interpretation is the principle job of the Judicial branch, and citizens have a variety of earnest beliefs based off of the document as well. There were several incidents where Hennessey’s own opinions were present in his writing. While discussing the Second Amendment, he states, “ So, if “people” have the right to bear arms, government has the power to impose fair qualifications on that right” (p.95). I don’t have to disagree with this assertion to know that readers deserve to learn from unbiased materials. This is a fierce issue in our government, and many people contend that Second Amendment rights are absolute and should not be infringed upon. Other times, Hennessy presents both sides of an issue like whether the Constitution is a “living document” that changes as time passes, or what Textualists believe, which is that the constitution should be accepted exactly as it is written. The value of reading the
Freedman 4 authentic document is for the audience to draw their own conclusions without outside influence. This is why a more complex study of the Constitution should include the original and other resources like the Graphic Adaptation.
When I began reading the USCGA I expected a new approach to learning about the laws that formed our system of government. I didn’t anticipate thoroughly enjoying the clever side notes and illustrations, while adding to my knowledge that was formed during U.S History and Government classes in high school. Hennessy and McConnell succeeded in furnishing a new medium for constitutional schooling. That is especially useful as an introduction to the United States founding
