Personal Narrative- Grandpa
Routinely pushing play on the answering machine, as I do every time I get home,
I was about to hear the words that would forever change my life. The sorrow and
agony in her voice gave away the horrifying news I had been regretfully waiting.
My heart sank as I sat and reflected on what had happened.
Since I was a little kid, my grandpa, Howard Scheuster, has always been a role
model in my life. He was an intelligent man, loyal Christian, prominent family
leader, and hard worker, thus I had many reasons for looking up to him my whole
life.
My grandpa was a victim of the affects of Lymphoma cancer for thirteen
years. Ever since I remember knowing my grandpa, he has had cancer,
but I would have never known it. When looking back at my grandpa, I remember
an avid fisherman, fanatic cigar collector, Chicago White Sox follower, and jazz
lover; but possibly the aspect of him I remember most was his many simple, yet
captivating stories about his past. My favorite of these stories had to be the
descriptive flashbacks of how he had met my grandma and all the romantic,
exciting jazz clubs they had spent there weekend nights at.
During the last summer of my grandpa's life, I was fortunate enough to spend
more time with him than ever before. Unaware of what the future would bring, I
guess I just hoped and thought that my grandpa would be fine and healthy
forever. Unfortunately, my grandpa began to slip, and various treatments, such
as chemotherapy, tragically failed. My grandpa soon lost his appetite,
something I thought my grandpa would never lose, because he was such a food
lover. His body frame began to shrink, and his bones began to show. Although
in much pain and helplessly attached to his bed, my grandpa was always in good
spirits, and always had a joyful smile on his white, bearded face, which is one
thing I will never forget about his character.
Upon returning from Grand Junction, I proceeded to check the messages. Pushing
play, I heard my grandma's voice; the sorrow and agony in her voice gave away
the horrifying news I had been regretfully waiting. My heart sank as I sat and
reflected on what had happened. My grandpa had passed away, and it would not
sink in for many days just how much I would miss him and how much I loved him.

...instead of 25 years if they pleaded guilty. (Wan 37) In addition, money can become a reason for defense attorney to encourage pleading guilty. Private defense attorney may want to spend more effort in cases where they have more possibility of winning and thus getting more money, and public defenders find pleading guilty an effective way to move through cases quicker. (Mohr 6) For prosecutors, “guilty pleas avoided ‘onerous and protracted’ trials whose outcomes – ‘losing’ or ‘having to oppose an appeal to the higher courts’ – were both undesirable.” (Smith 134) Finally for judges, plea bargain reduces their caseload, and elevates their reputation indirectly because accepting a plea bargaining also includes waiver of appeal to higher courts. (Mohr 6)
Pericles did not wish to simply reiterate what Athens had achieved, but rather he wanted to address how and why Athens achieved. He believed that Athenian politics, culture, and character were more relevant to the deceased soldiers than their ancestor’s military successes. Accordingly, he praised these elements of Athenian society and in the process justified the soldiers’ sacrifice. He spoke “but what was the road by which we reached our position, what the form of government under which our greatness grew, what the national habits out of which it sprang; these are the questions which I may try to solve before I proceed to my eulogy upon these men; since I think this to be a subject upon which on the present occasion a speaker may properly dwell, and to which the whole assemblage, whether citizens or foreigners, may listen with advantage.” (2.36.4).

If any attorney knows one court is likely to rule unfavorably for their clients, In urban areas the overload of cases result in plea bargaining. Defendants plea guilt for crime of lesser punishment
While many will argue that plea bargaining is necessary, it cannot be disregarded that plea bargains stand on unethical grounds. In this research paper, an overview of what plea bargaining is and its incentives will be discussed. Furthermore, in order to demonstrate the ethical issues that surround plea bargains, a detailed overview of
Pericles was chosen to give the funeral oration over the men who had died in battle at Samos which was greatly admired. The funeral oration was delivered during a war that was clearly going to continue for awhile. It’s main purpose was to explain why they had the rights to risk their lives and why the living should be willing to do this. In it he said the men who died, died for Athens. He talked to do mothers and wives of the fallen men telling them that the men died for a good reason. They died for their love of Athens.
Plea bargaining should be abolished because its unfair, defendants lose some of their rights like the right to trial by jury, plea bargaining allows criminals to defeat justice, thus diminishing the public's respect for the criminal justice process.
not to cry, Sarah wouldn't of wanted me to, she was all I could think
I don't have a lot of fantastic memories of childhood. There were no spectacular family adventures, no unique family projects that taught some sort of moral lesson, no out-of-the-ordinary holidays. We ate family meals together, but most of the time the children and adults lived in different worlds. The kids went to school, did homework, and played; the adults worked. I was lucky, though. When I wanted a little of both worlds, I could always turn to Grandpa.
