Martin Luther King Jr. 1929-1968. Mother Theresa 1910-1997. Albert Einstein 1879-1955. All of these people are not remembered for their birth or death dates, but rather what they did with their dash. The dash that goes between their birth and death dates on their headstones. The dash that says what a person has accomplished in their life. The dash that takes up so little space, but holds so much meaning. What will you do with your dash? Will your dash be one of accomplishment, of success, of compassion, of love, of happiness? I wish you more than enough of all of these things to make up your dash. I heard a short story recently that I think seems appropriate to share. At an airport a father and daughter were saying good-bye to one another. "I love you, I wish you enough." The father said. She said, "Daddy, our life together has been more than enough. I wish you enough, too." They kissed good-bye and she left. Walking over toward the window where another young lady was seated, he asked her, "Did you ever say good-bye to someone knowing it would be forever?" ...
sad to leave them, but she is grateful of the experience she got to have.
When looking back over her life, so far, she says not a bad life. Then again she’s not done yet and hopes to have another good ten years. I leave you with her life’s message.
“I knew he was in a good place, I knew he was going to be taken care of,” she added. “I knew even though he was leaving his family in Southern california he was going to have this great big family here, in Humboldt.”
...ymore, but that she has to become something more than that. For instance, she will have to work inside the house, such as cooking, cleaning, and doing laundry, compared to the work she use to do out in the yard for her father. When all is said and done, she knows what is expected of her now, and will have to take on the responsibilities that go with it.
“When we left for the hospital she ran after me, got into the van, and she was very happy.”
Good evening. Some of you out there may not realize this but those of you who attended Suntime Middle School have been with this guy for the last seven years. I would like to ask you all, not just Suntime Middle School grads and who all else, to join me in thanking Mr. Weather for his patience and dedication to the success of our education over the years. We are the Class of 2000. The first graduating class of the new millennium. The past four years have been pretty wild. We started out as a bunch of rats in a small cage, but as time went by we learned and matured and became big rats in a new small cage, but in any case, the cage door is now opening; the handlers turning us wild things loose. As we leave "Where the Wild Things Are," home to some of the best cat fights, fist fights and food fights this side of the Cascades, I have a little surprise for all of you sitting in front of me here tonight in your caps and gowns … we ain’t seen nothing yet!
appreciation for her and her hard work. This moment had taught me to show my kids happiness
On the kitchen floor he set her down, held her in his arms, and kissed her. “Thanks.”
It is probably a mistake that I am standing here giving a speech for graduation. In fact it is probably a mistake that I am even graduating from this school at all -- believe me, just as most people in this class I have tested the limits of attendance, of sleeplessness, and of procrastination. At the beginning of my high schooling, I was even testing dropping out ... and if that wasn't a mistake, I don't know what was. After four years of Starr altering our minds, it seemed most fitting for me to spend my four minutes talking about mistakes. Thank goodness for them, by the way -- it is only when we truly screw up big time that we are ever stopped in our tracks -- stopped, briefly, to learn lessons of worth.
..." he said looking at me in question. I smile to myself, and replied, "Hopefully, we will meet next time and things will getting better. Good luck, and hope you get better," I said in grand finale, and our time together ended.
“We are working on our relationship, I love my wife. She is entitled to a few mistakes. After all, we are only human. We will be attending counseling, as we are very much still together.” He seals it with a kiss, as the cameras flash. Then pulls her into a car.
To begin something new, you must sacrifice something old. To enter the real world, you must graduate your childhood.
Well, here we are. Sitting in this stuffy gym wearing these unflattering robes, while the band is poised and ready to play “Pomp and Circumstance.” We’ve always known this day would come and, whether our teachers, our parents or ourselves are prepared for it, here it is. We’re about to take that giant leap in just a few minutes and after that, it’s time to make our own choices. No longer will our biggest decisions entail which person to ask to prom or which period would be the best to TA during. Now our choices will begin to revolve around which bills we need to pay and what job we want to be doing 20 years from now. And whether you choose to earn a degree, get a job certification or immediately start working, there are some universal choices that everyone should make to ensure a fulfilling life for ourselves and our families.
Hi, my name is Mary Smith, and I want to welcome you all to the County High School graduation ceremony tonight.
She said, “I’m a grandmother, my love for you is just like having another daughter.” I realized that she was my biggest supporter and teaching me how to be independent was something she did from the bottom of her heart. She also felt that since my father wasn’t in my life that I deserved to have all the support from family. My mother is a single mom and my grandmother stepped up to the plate and helped where my mom fell short. I will always have the up-most respect for my grandmother because she went over and beyond for me. I felt as though my grandmother did everything out of love and not because she felt obligated to. She hasn’t missed a beat in my life, every school performance, dance recitals, and band performance my grandmother was there. I am forever grateful for everything that she has done and for things that she has yet to
