I feel the Suffolk University can lay the groundwork for making these dreams a reality. Regretfully, when I entered high school, I did not realize how hard I had to work to get what I wanted. I went to my classes, did my work, but never really pushed myself to my full potential. I thought that as long as I graduated with decent grades I would be able to get into college and really focus then. But as high school quickly came to an end, I realized that I was not as well prepared for college, as I would have liked.

(1) Why would you like to participate in the Summer Graduate School Preparation Course? I will graduate this June with as a communication studies major and a Labor and workplace studies minor. Before transferring to UCLA, my goal was to attend law school and work in public policy or become a private lawyer. However, coming to UCLA greatly affected my GPA and opened me to new cultures and experiences. I realize now that law school is not for me and have spent my senior year exploring different career options.
My two immediate goals are to get an outstanding education while playing competitive soccer. The University of Wisconsin-Madison seems like the perfect fit. In my family, academics always comes before athletics. I want to attend a school where I’m challenged every day in the classroom, where I can explore different majors while having the support of top-notch faculty. I anticipate taking courses in the Computer Science School or the Wisconsin School of Business. Both offer a wide variety of intriguing research opportunities; for example, Independent Study Projects and Faculty Research Projects.
The process of choosing a school is an exciting time, as you consider where and how you want to live. As I’ve gone through this process, one of the challenging aspects has been determining what areas I am most likely to study and perhaps pursue as a career. Throughout my school years, I have always strived not only to succeed in all classes, but also to obtain knowledge in a variety of areas. I have enjoyed learning Spanish, debating U.S History, reading and evaluating literature. However, over the past year, as I’ve considered my future education, it has become clear I am most interested in focused academic study in areas of sciences and engineering, with particular interest in practical application of these studies—which I believe makes Worcester Polytechnical Institute a perfect place for me.
... The program is clearly not a perfect substitute for experience, but I believe it would program would also allow me to further research my business ideas through the experiences of my peers, independent study, and related summer employment. This would let me have a deep understanding, as I hope, of financial and other market structures, competitiveness, and other factors that a consultant needs take into account when recommending whether to pursue a career as an international business consultant.

Maths and physics have always fascinated me and from an early age I knew that it was in the science based subjects that my interests and greatest ability lay. Although I have enjoyed the challenge that my school-based work has given me, I have always sought to extend my knowledge in these subject areas by considering the application of the theory we learn within the curriculum to the real world. This desire to learn how theory can be applied in real life allowed me to greatly enjoy the mechanics modules of my further maths A-level to such a degree that I knew that engineering would be the ideal subject to study at the highest level. While physics and maths give one the background skills needed to assure the validity of innovation and technology,
West Africa is predominantly Francophone, therefore as a little girl growing up in Ghana which is bordered by Francophone countries, I made it my goal to learn to speak the French language despite its difficulties. I failed in all my French classes so much that my Senior High School French teacher advised me to drop French since I was doing so well in Economics, English and History. Now, several years later, I graduated from the University of Ghana with a Degree in English and French against all odds. My passion to be a world changer ignites in me the desire to move on despite challenges. I was the first Ghanaian student to be appointed an Intern at the Ghana Embassy in Cote d'Ivoire after its war amidst discouragements from other students that were at the University of Cocode with me in Abidjan.
Mathematics is my greatest academic interest. I found the maths subject fascinating primarily because it is all about problem solving, wherein logical thinking is used to analyse, simplify, and finally solve the problem. This problem-solving process constantly provides me with intellectual challenges to take, and that eureka moment is the reward much sought for which often comes after long time of painstakingly trying out every possible solution. However, the beauty of maths is not only about solving a problem, but lays also in identifying the recurrent patterns. The great mathematicians seek not merely an answer but elegant solutions, and in doing so they discover patterns which can explain things so well and almost resemble works of art.
Since 1905, the Wisconsin Idea was created for many students at the University of Wisconsin. This concept is used for the people at the University to expand their lives as not only a student, but as a contributing member of a community. Living in my small town, I have learned that teamwork is a great skill that can benefit all aspects of life. Being a Badger the next four years would aid in the expansion of my own knowledge, and broaden the minds of others around me. Some ways I could become a part of the UW community is by joining the Women's Club Volleyball Team, Model United Nations, and through Badger Volunteers.
Mathematics for me used to be a series of formulae you could manipulate to get solutions without having to get too involved in the workings of a problem. This only works with simple problems of course, but as I grew up, these problems gradually started getting difficult and I could not solve them as easily. The turning point for me was when my dad taught me maths, who represented these problems through pictures. Suddenly, the maths was replaced by diagrams visualising how the world around us functioned and through my lessons with him, I became gradually more and more fascinated by how problems can be modelled, which can then be solved easily. This was my first foray into the basics of mathematical modelling.
First and foremost, I will contribute to the academic climate of the University of Alberta. My program of choice, engineering, will undoubtedly be difficult and demanding, but I have spent my time in high school working hard to succeed. I have thrown myself into AP courses for the challenge (by the end of grade 12 I will have taken 20 AP courses). I have already taken the Language and Composition, Computer Science A, Physics 2, and AP Seminar exams. I have challenged myself and risen to the challenge.
At the moment, I’m taking a break from school and doing OPT (Optional Practical Training) to have more experience with the real world. I got to meet so many people from the jobs that I’m doing and I’m glad that I made this decision. Nonetheless, university is still a really important matter that I need to focus on and University of Washington (U.W) has been one of my favorite school since I moved to the US. At first, it was just because how beauty the campus is, then I met a lot of terrific people from U.W and they told me so many good things about school such as how good the professor are, how well-equipped the library is etc.. That is why I immediately apply to the university because I really want to become a part of the university that shaped all these wonderful people I’ve met.
