My decision to apply for a graduate program at the University of Toledo is driven by my aspirations to pursue a research career in the field of Applied Mathematics. This field interests me because of its wide-ranging application, and excitement to study. I believe that a strong and thorough background as well as a complete awareness of recent developments is essential for an intellectually stimulating and satisfying research career. Towards realizing this objective at an esteemed department, such as yours, I am applying to your university. An objective analysis of my background, interests, strengths and weakness lead me to believe that I will be successful both as a graduate student, and later as a professional Mathematician and researcher.
Mathematics has always fascinated me since my childhood. It was my father who introduced me the basic arithmetic operations at my early age. He used to do addition, subtraction, and multiplication verbally

Despite the very limited resources, I completed my high school from Amar Higher Secondary School with first division and securing first position among hundred and fifty students. Among the Mathematics courses offered in high school; some of the topics such as Calculus and its application, linear programming, number theory and logics were quite new for me, and they further made me more curious about their application in our lives. After High School, I majored Mathematics and Economics at the Undergraduate level. I found the use of Mathematics and statistics through Economics which encouraged me to gain more advance knowledge in Mathematics. I was impressed by the logical proofs and solutions connected with various theorems and problems on the Mathematics courses I studied there. Besides, Mathematics and Statistics for Economics, Micro and Macro Economics attracted me to use the mathematical concepts and their applications in various Economic
After his visit to a Shell Research Laboratory, my high school teacher in math told us in class that he was so happy with his education, because mathematics had helped him to understand the explanations and demonstrations that had been given by the Shell researchers. He said, "If you master mathematics then you can understand everything." That was certainly an exaggeration, but it nevertheless sounded like a golden message. Since I definitely wanted to have a better understanding of what was going on around me, mathematics seemed the obvious way to go. Also, if it was not much beyond high school math, then it was pretty easy in addition. What could one wish more? So I enrolled in every advanced math class offered in our high school. Pretty soon I discovered that mathematics was much more than a set of principles that helped one to solve intellectual riddles. It was not a finished system that one could aim to master after some limited time, but it was really a way of thinking, a means of expressing creativity: endless, an old established science, but still fresh and with undiscovered green meadows, nearby and far away.
Even though I received “satisfactory” grades in Calculus III and IV, the compassionate Graceland University faculty helped me recalibrate. From an early age I knew that I wanted to pursue a Ph.D. in mathematics, but my instructors’ patience and wisdom inspired me to become a mathematics professor. In addition to providing a supportive environment for my future students, I wish to encourage them to seek a life of curiosity and learning. Since my decision to pursue a Ph.D. in mathematics, I have accumulated academic experiences that will provide a stable foundation for my future.
Going through elementary school math was just another subject for me. It was actually simple to me. There were easy problems like two plus two equals four and five times five equals twenty-five. In high school, math turns into algebra I, algebra II, geometry, trigonometry, and other advance math classes. Algebra II was my toughest subject, and most of the students were failing the class. Despite my conspiracy theory that algebra was created by Satan, I figured out a way to make it simpler. Later on in the semester, I showed my teacher ways to make the class easier and simpler.
Life can be a tough endeavor for any party; it's even harder when you're a first generation American and your closest family is just an ocean away. The fact that I can't easily call my grandmother for a visit (since she can't speak English or French, the only languages I speak, and she's approximately 7,230 miles away in Brazzaville), or celebrate birthdays of my family members, or even easily check up on them and ask how their day is, to say the least, is painful; however, I'm sure it was even harder for my parents to leave the only family they've ever known and move to America. Though they knew the miles and yards standing between them would be excruciating, they moved. Many years later, after I was born and had the intelligence and empathy
Growing up as an enthusiast for mathematics, I studied the discipline at undergraduate level at elite math class in the name of Prof. Shing-Tung Yau in Zhejiang University, whose department of mathematics ranks the top 3 in China. Haven’t encountered many obstacles during the study of fundamental mathematics, I am more drawn to applied mathematics since its application in real life are more instant and beneficial. Being selected to minor in Finance offered me the perspective to see how quantitative analysis help to improve financial markets and my attempt to use mathematical theory, with the help of computational programming, to provide possible implications for policy makers consolidated my desire to study quantitative analysis. During my
After graduation from KOREA University, I decided to enter Hyndai MotorCompany(HMC), which is the largest Korean car manufacturer and global player, to pursue a career as an international businessman. In January 1991, I joined Domestic Finance Team of HMC. My specific assignment was to plan monthly and annual financial schedules for HMC's domestic funding needs. About two years later, in January of 1993, I was transferred to Retail Finance Team from Domestic Finance Team and responsible for financing by the sales and factoring of Car Receivables.
Since Computer Science is a dynamic and developing field that is increasingly pervading every aspect of society, I have decided to apply for an Australian Study Visa to pursue Bachelor of Computer Science - at the Griffith University, offered by Griffith University, a public research university in South East Queensland on the east coast of Australia. I am of firm conviction that suitable opportunity to pursue further studies will help in my endeavor towards realizing my goal. Recently, I appeared for my Grade 12th examinations from C.B.S.E and cleared it with 74% aggregate in June 2017. Throughout my studies, I maintained good academic record; and subjects like Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics further enhanced my curiosity to pursue higher
(2007), for interest in math to be developed in students, there must be meaningful and useful connections to the use of math. Steen, L. (2007), goes on to note that numeracy is a more concrete way of teaching math concepts because it relates math computations to real life useful situations. As the author stated, students will have to vote, deal with tax issues, credit cards, home construction, and health care needs to name a few, which are valuable tangible issues that the study of math computations should be based around in an effort to build student interest. Steen, L. (2007) also makes the clear point that learning subjects like algebra or geometry is not a bad thing, but those subjects are not something that all students can
For several years, I have known I wanted a career involving higher-level mathematics. However, it was not until recently did I discover an interest to become a mathematician, who collaborates with other mathematicians, contributes to the math community, and has the opportunity to teach and excite students about mathematical topics. After spending two years studying at Weatherford Community College, in Weatherford TX, I chose to continue my undergraduate education at the University of Houston, in Houston TX, to study mathematics. The transition from a community college to a considerably larger research university was challenging, however by managing my capabilities and quickly adjusting to the different methods of learning, I stayed able to
In education, “Business Mathematics” undergraduates whom are business students take some mathematics classes. They are usually not as hard and might not go in detail as with other classes for example when the major is science. One usually studies Business Calculus and Business Statistics. Typically, the examples given in these classes are related to the real world of business.
After spending two years studying at Weatherford Community College in my hometown, Weatherford TX, I chose to continue my undergraduate education at the University of Houston, in Houston TX, to study mathematics. At the time, I was aware of the joy I found in mathematics, however only soon would I truly understand this pleasure. The transition from a community college to a research university was challenging, however by managing my capabilities and quickly adjusting to the different methods of learning, I was able to fill in the gaps and adapt from a community college environment to a higher-level-thinking university. At UH, the first mathematics course that exposed proofs and logical reasoning to me was Transitions to Advanced Mathematics. This course stood vastly different from previous math courses, which were highly computational.
Initial Reflection Math contributed substantially in terms of my academic success throughout the majority of elementary and middle school. Adding, subtracting and multiplying was definitely my forte. Although I was placed in advanced math classes in high school, I always understood math enough to do well in the advanced classes. Despite my success at math before high school, I always knew I was decent at writing and somewhat enjoyed it.
Logic and mathematics starting with basic arithmetic showed me how to follow steps, one at a time and one after another, to arrive at the results, one step at a time and after another. I learned that an error in one step will make all the following steps and results wrong. Mathematics like any other rule and pattern based discipline may show through experience and trial or error, how to solve problems first by following given methods and later, if needed, by combining and exploring different methods.

Through out my life, nothing has ever fascinated me like the application of mathematics in real life situations. In real life, the application of mathematics acts as a foundation from which economics progresses as it offers a person with different knowledge on how they are supposed to carry out different life applications. Mathematics offers an individual with the right differentiation skills that are highly required in making different calculations of elasticity coefficients that are applied in different sectors of the world. My greatest inspiration in the application of mathematics in real life experience has been “ The Pleasure of Counting”. By T. W. Korner’s. Through the work of Korner, I have been enabled to increase the rate to which I apply the mathematical knowledge that I have acquired over the years to real world situations. Some of the areas that I have increasingly applied my mathematical knowledge includes in the economics as well as in the field of finance. The application of mathematics in this filed has contributed towards my critical thinking and analytical skills progress.
