During my Grade 8 Sustainability Project, me and my partner decided that our Global Context would be Identities and Relationships. We were both considerably interested on the topic of making people “be their best-self” and “feel comfortable in their own body”, therefore, we concluded that our main goal for this project was going to be reducing the obesity rate by informing a part of the NIS community about the risks and persuading them into having a healthier and fitter life. The subject area that our project relates to the most is Physical Education because we were attempting to improve the amount fitness by educating people and giving them options of exercises and healthy meals. Our project was regarding health and fitness. People commonly consider themselves imperfect and …show more content…
This was unbelievable to me and my partner because we never thought or were confident that our project would get this much attention. Our plan to make this project sustainable would be to sell the book. If we sold it for 30 RMB (which is the price most of the people said they would pay for), every second book we sold would allow us to print another one in order to be able to keep selling them. This taught me a lot about sustainability, team-work and personal excellence. If I was to do this in the future I would definitely know what to do. I would still like to learn more about obesity and the consequences because his project has made me interested in them. The product could be better and more reliable if we had actually had time to test for a whole month to prove if the results were legitimate. It was definitely a really good and fun experience and we ended up with a very succesful outcome, however, if I could start over and do this again I would definitely manage my time wisely instead of rushing, and I would like to focus more on working on the reference
This is an argument discussing the most important health promotion issue in Newham, borough of London, about the obesity. This borough (New ham) has massive issue about healthy food promotion, where there is too many fast food shop and restaurants all around schools. Many children in the area of Newham are obese according to the new report on 29 November 2015 published Newham Recorder news. The report identified that nearly half of year sex children in Newham city are overweight.
The first step to fighting the obesity epidemic is education. The mayor of Manchester admits to her ignorance on the issue “I just don’t know a lot about obesity” (408 Haygood). Informing the mayor would be the first step to informing the town. Once the mayor is informed, she could speak out at community event and at schools. It is vital to have a
One of the researchers that stood out to me most was doctor David Nathan. He addresses the question concerning diabetes prevention. David Nathan is the director of the diabetes center in Massachusetts’s general hospital. Additionally, The Weight of The Nation Movie...
Persuading viewers to think about their actions as to how they can improve this dilemma. Burtynsky 's projects have completely flipped my perspective of how humans consume the resources around them, slowly collapsing from our own demise. It made me want to change my lifestyle choices to help better and slow environmental change.
Ever since I was a little kid I loved the performing arts and I never thought that I would eventually fall in love with science . After an intense and challenging year of Chemistry my sophomore year, I was hesitant and nervous in signing up for my junior year science class. Toward the end of my sophomore year my chemistry teacher, Mr. Bowditch, told me he thought I would do well in Advanced Placement Environmental Science. I was in a state of disbelief because I was struggling trying to get a C in Chemistry and I was thinking how was I supposed to take AP Environmental Science class. After a conversation with my parents, they had persuaded me to sign up and we agreed if i didn't like it or it was too hard I would be able to drop the class.
As a large sedentary community, the Mid Atlantic Consolidated Patient Accounts Center (MACPAC) has a great need to promote exercise and healthy eating habits in the workplace. Currently more than one-third of the country suffers from obesity. It is my hope that with the help of the Wellness Committee we can continue to improve healthy lifestyle changes, and curb the epidemic of obesity that our country has. I am currently finishing my Masters in Public Health, and need to do a service project for the community. It is my hope that the MACPAC will be a place where we can start this change from sedentary lifestyles, to a more healthy and active
Obesity is a rising problem in the United States. With obesity rates on the rise something must be done to prevent this massive issue. There are ways to help including educating at young ages, improving nutrition facts at restaurants, and providing more space for citizens to get physically active.
It’s been shown that “Nearly two-thirds of adult Americans are overweight or obese. Despite the attention of the health profession, the media, and the public, and mass educational campaigns about the benefits of healthier diets and increased physical activity, the prevalence of obesity in the United States has more than doubled over the past four decades” (Marks). These alarming statistics are increasing exponentially as individuals all over the globe continue to adopt unhealthy lifestyles that can lead to detrimental, and many times, irreversible, health issues. As a result, my discussion section chose to design our utopian society, named Troytopia, with the founding main vision of adhering to strict, healthy lifestyles for the betterment
However, there is more at stake here than what these two groups ultimately believe to be true. The percentage of obese children in the United States has risen from 5% in 1980 to almost 20% in 2012. Factors such as food choices and fitness levels are contributing greatly to this problem. Obese children eventually become obese adults and bring along with them many adverse medical conditions. These medical conditions such as diabetes are known to be severe and place a shorter life expectancy on the people it affects. Ultimately, what is at stake here is childhood obesity is on the rise in the United States due to people’s failure to eat the proper foods and as a result of children followin...
The sustainability of the project is based on the material’s durability. The materials that I used for my project was flower pots, potting compost, sunflower seeds, trowel, wheel-barrow, watering buckets and gloves. All the materials were in child-sized. The materials are made up of plastic which is safe for the children to be used. The materials are also high quality products. I explained my project to the parents of the children and they supported me by donating the materials su...
Sustainability is an issue that everyone should be concerned about. If the planet Earth is going to exist, as we know it, everyone should wake up and do their part to help achieve a greater level of sustainability. In my English 101 class we learned about the issue of sustainability. Many different topics were discussed and researched throughout the course of the semester. Overall, I think that the sustainability project has been a learning and enlightening experience for everyone in this class. Many more things can be done next semester, since the groundwork has been laid to continue this project for time to come.
A Brief History of "Sustainability" “[M]odern industries still operate according to paradigms that developed when humans had a very different sense of the world” (McDonough and Braungart 26)—when resources were thought to be infinite. In 1972 the UN convened the Conference on the Human Environment where “the global community acknowledged that more exploration was needed of the inter-relationships between the environment and socio-economic issues of poverty and underdevelopment. Thus the concept of sustainable development emerged in the 1980s in response to a growing realization of the need to balance economic and social progress with concern for the environment and the stewardship of natural resources” (“Education,” par. 2). The adage of the adage.
It was very neat how we were able to find a good balance between information and creativity. We found many clever ways to slide information into our commercial. After lots of collaboration and teamwork, we all agreed our final product was very similar to how we wanted it to turn out. We went into depth with learning about Aphrodite because of this project. We are able to relate information on her to aspects in the
Recycling is a method used to change waste materials into original resources to avoid waste of potentially beneficial resources. Utilization is a key factor of modern waste reduction and it is a substantial feature of the ‘Reduce’, ‘Reuse’, ‘Recycle’ waste hierarchy. Recycling is far more authoritative than most people are inclined to consider. The first rule of eulogy is that everything is connected.
The concept of sustainability means different things to different people. The reactions and judgments accompanying the notion of sustainability range from the opinion that sustainability is simply a passing fad, to the belief that conserving the environment and finding sustainable ways of living and conducting business is the most critical issue facing the planet today (UN Global Compact, 2004).
