A leader is a person who directs or commands a group, organization or country. Governor Mario Cuomo was our leader and left his mark as one of the most ethical leaders New York State has had.An ethical leader is someone that directs with respect for the beliefs and values of others and can be described as a trustworthy, honest and fair person. In Cuomo’s 3 terms in office he was loved by the American people and many wanted to see him as President. This was because of his ability to put the future of the people above his own personal beliefs, his confidence in his leadership skills and his capability to know his limits as a leader. When Mario Cuomo was governor he always put his personal beliefs aside to please the people and make sure that the laws in New York state were fair. Cuomo was a Catholic man which means he didn’t support abortion. However he couldn’t make his view the law of New Many shook their head thinking, that could have been the peak of his career in politics and he turned down a once in a lifetime opportunity which both can be true. However Cuomo knew himself more than anyone else did and he knew that he had to stay in Albany. He knew that politics could get ugly and he didn’t want to do it on a national scale or start something he couldn’t be committed to. This showed that Cuomo knew himself as a leader and how to make difficult decisions which is a quality all leaders should have to be able to direct others. With this in mind, you can see why Cuomo was an ethical leader. He knew to put others before himself and definitely had the trust of his people. Cuomo knew himself more than anyone else and made sure to not further is career if he wasn’t going to be committed to it. Cuomo also knew the importance his actions had and made sure to not only be an ethical leader but have ethical behavior as
What is a leader? According to the dictionary a leader is a "person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country." (Merriam Webster) Though that may be what the term leader is defined by, one would assume that it takes much more to be considered a "good" one. A leader, is in many cases the voice of the people, he is the one whom everyone looks to in a time of panic, the one whom the people entrust to make the hard decisions and the one whom is supposed to value his constituents wants and need. Unfortunately most leaders fall short of accomplishing the things they set out to do, "as principal chief during the 1830s John Ross faced the most critical period in Cherokee History, and somehow
Introduction According to the Oxford Dictionary, a leader is defined as “the person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country” (Oxford Dictionaries, 2013). Though there is a definition for what a leader is, people still have different ideas about what a leader should be and how he or she should act. There has never been a concrete idea of what a leader is; the only thing we know is that this person is the one in charge of the unit. We look at characteristics of those people we see as leaders and use those attributes to compare other people to see if they are able to be as good as, or even better than, those aforementioned leaders. We have to keep in mind that in different situations, leaders must do different tasks which indicates the need for different qualities.
He conducted a well-runned campaign and was publicly endorsed by ex-Mayor Koch and as Robert Wagner the third said, “A vote for Giuliani would be best for the city.” Giuliani implemented many changes to New York City. For example, he emphasized law and order and government efficiency and he refused to participate in any racial competition. His main goal was to protect citizens from the plague of crime and promised not only to be tough with felons

(The Economist). Trump also sends people who are pro-life as well to announce the plans of what trump plans to do. Trump sends the first vice president who was the governor of Indiana named Mike Pence to deliver a message to the crowd. Mike tells the crowd “that the new administration was intent on ending tax-payer funding of abortions and those who provide them.” (The Economist). He also discussed “that Mr. Trump would the following week announce a Supreme Court nominee—to fill the space left by Antonin Scalia, a conservative justice who died last February— “who will uphold the God-given liberty enshrined in our constitution”. Mike also says that “Life is winning again in America!” (The Economist). It turns out that Trump didn’t just pick Mr. Pence for his cabinet, he picked another person that was pro-life as well and his name was Tom Price. Mr. Price who is a pro-lifer and the leader of the department of health, has chosen to be a part of banning abortion nationwide of twenty weeks of pregnancy. Most people who were marching is hoping for “Roe” to be revoked as a law. A man named “Steve Hemler”, a former oil executive-turned “Catholic apologist” from Culpeper, Virginia said that “It

Leadership is derived from the Latin word laedere, which roughly translates as “to show the way” and if someone were to look it up in the dictionary, it would come up as “the position of a leader, the ability to lead, and direction.” However, for some this word can be arguable because everyone thinks differently. Leadership or leader itslef can be described or defined as someone promoting good character, a trustworthy person as well as a person who has dedication and takes responsibility for not only him or herself but also takes responsibility for the people surrounding them.
I define Leadership as a person’s ability to guide or shepherd a herd through/to a common destination – a destination of common beliefs. The leader possesses qualities/traits that can persuade others to follow them because they believe and trust them – regardless of their “human” traits and imperfections. The herd trusts that they will stay on course to the common destination.
What exactly is a leader? Is a leader the line by line definition presented to you in a dictionary? Is it just the person that leads and commands a group or organization? Or is it something more? Something beyond the obvious managing and directing. Personally I believe Ronald Reagan embodies the exact definition of what a leader should be. Reagan once stated “The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things, he is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.” Being a leader has nothing to do with being the best. In the end, it doesn’t matter whether or not you are the star quarterback or the leading soloist. It doesn’t matter if you are the fastest runner or how high you can throw your the rifle. What I truly think makes a person a leader is having the ability to do something more that far exceeds throwing a football or hitting a perfect tune. What makes a person a leader is having the ability for looking out for your team. It’s about putting the team above yourself. A leader has the ability to look out for each and every team member when they are struggling. They are always on call and ready to help despite the situation at hand. Leadership is just something that can’t be switched on and off. Leadership is something that remains with a person. It consumes the body in which it inhabits presenting it’s owner with the desire to look after the team not only on the field, but off. It allows the holder to truly care about their team because they want the best for it. It gives them the impulse to keep peace in the unity but still push them to amount to their greatest potential. As Ronald Reagan stated, leaders get the people to do the greatest things.
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
A leader is described as a person who guides others and has authority and influence over others. They work to influence others into meeting certain goals. There is no right or wrong definition of a leader and there is no recipe that ensures effective leadership. Successful leaders have a good balance of vision, influence, and power. Leaders gain their authority from their ability to influence others to get the work done; because of this, anyone has the potential to be a leader. (Finkelman. 2012, p15)
As many people help others in life, they can be known to have the potential to be an outstanding leader. Leadership is the act of motivating ordinary people to do extraordinary things. It includes having a strong, positive, inspiring attitude that others will believe in. Leadership is having clear communication so that others will work their hardest to achieve whatever is given to them. Leaders make an impact on others hearts with their ultimate passion which leads to making a difference in people’s lives.
Leadership is defined as the action of leading a group of people or organization in order to accomplish certain goals. A leader must possess certain power or ability to hold a leadership position (Al-Sawai, 2013). There are several leadership styles identified over the years. Regardless of his leadership type, a leader must be able to influence his organization and be aware what motivates his team members, so that the goals can be accomplished.
Is a leader as defined in the Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, merely one who leads - synonymous with a boss? Or something more? I believe that a leader is much more than that and can be defined in any number of ways. In attempting to define a leader personally, I will use both myself and others as examples.
Leadership is one of the most sought after skills in the professional world and a fantastic skill to possess outside the workplace. However, while many people can give the dictionary definition of leadership not many understand what it truly means to be a leader. As Teddy Roosevelt said, “People ask the difference between a leader and a boss…The leader works in the open, and the boss in covert. The leader leads, and the boss drives.” This quote captures the essence of what leadership truly is; leading a group to their common goal together rather than as a unit of people led by one individual who only has their own interests in mind. Anyone can be a boss and tell people what they need to do to help the boss reach his goal but a leader will listen to others and the result may end up greater than it would have as a unit working under a boss. With a good understanding of what leadership is and knowing how to lead, anyone can become a great leader.
