Us as citizens rarely realize that our very own government can manipulate a variety of aspects of our everyday lives; from the stories that are posted online to news reportings on T.V. Governments tend to do this to influence their audience into agreeing a certain topic or to make a situation sound a certain away for their benefit. Whatever the government doesn’t agree to, they tend to ban it or get rid of it to prevent their citizens from viewing it. Governments also tend to hide esoteric topics that don’t want to be released to the public because it may not benefit them and viewers can interpret the topic in different ways that can lead to arguments. Most importantly, governments tend to manipulate overall is our language.

Recently, the Trump administration has banned seven words: “vulnerable,” “diversity,” “entitlement,” “fetus,” “evidence-based, “transgender,” ” and “science-based.” This decision is not only seen as a ridiculous act it’s also an offense to the science community. The banning of these words has taken a toll for the scientists to communicate; however, the administration instructed the CDC to not use these words in next years budget documents so it can improve the chances of getting funding. Apparently using these seven words was decreasing the governments chances of getting funds. Overall this is still a manipulation of language because these words are important whether it's on budget documents or not. The government shouldn’t banned words just because it’s not appropriate for their documents. Since they have control over these things they can easily banned words whenever they please.
