In history, governments have endeavored to rule their subjects. Major forms of authority consist primarily of monarchy, absolute monarchy, oligarchy, democracy, tyranny, theocracy, and republic. By examining the main faults of each government, the republic is clearly the superior form.
Monarchy is a method where a single person oversees the government. This head of state reigns within bounds of a constitution but still creates a single entity with extreme power. Personal beliefs often override best practices.
The absolute monarchy, while similar to general monarchy, goes further in dissatisfaction. In this regime, the ruler believes they derive authority from a god or multiple deities (Perry, 24). Commanding military and judicial systems, the ruler is in a position of authority, limiting rights and suppressing freedoms.

Oligarchy is control by a small group of people, frequently land owning aristocrats through heredity (Perry, 56).
This select group rules at the expense of common people. Increasing wealth is commonly the main consideration.
Tyranny resembles the monarchy but usually occurs by seizing power during periods of instability (Perry, 59). Whereas the monarchy usually has a constitution or counterbalancing group, tyranny is absolute personal power rule. Aristotle warned tyranny could threaten the well-being of the citizen and the rule of law (Perry, 87).
Theocracy is a control with no separation between religion and state. Divine law regulates all aspects of individual relationships (Perry, 206). Under correct circumstances, theocracy could be the most superior form of government. However, in a world filled with sin, this form quickly collapses under man’s control. Only when God truly rules is a theocracy tolerable (Rev. 21:3).
Democracy is control by the people. On the surface, this appears to be a superior form, but as Plato warned it is slow to react, oppresses of the minority, and lacks skilled leaders (Perry,
84). Elected representatives and leaders govern a republic. While requiring precautions to ensure equality, as Jesus declared the better way of leaders is to serve the people (Matt. 20:25-28) when correctly administered it creates balance between state and its people. The republic has become the greatest form of modern government. Polybius stated, the republic allows for quick action, yet maintains safeguards for all involved. (Polybius) It bypasses false beliefs of divine authority, prevents rule by those who deem themselves privileged, does not succumb to whims of individual viewpoints, and protects inhabitants from a fanatical religion’s oppression.
In summation this paper discussed the three correct types of regimes according to Aristotle; furthermore it examined the deviations of these regimes. This was done by firstly examining a regime led by royalty, secondly by observing the characteristics of an aristocratic regime and thirdly by discussing a regime ran by constitutional government. Finally defining the three correct types of regimes the deviations of these regimes: tyrannical, oligarchic and democratic were examined.
...hold absolute power but is equally controlled by the actions of the people as they are considered to be a servant for the people.
Socrates and I grew up alongside the Athenian democracy, and experienced her vicissitudes in the past seventy years. We have both heard and experienced cycle of five types of governments that Socrates had mentioned. (Plato, Republic 8.547e) Our democracy was established hundreds years ago under Cleisthenes and turned to tyranny under Isagoras. In our childhood, Athens was a timarchy, and then Pericles ruled Athens with the
Firstly it’s important to understand the meaning of a monarchy. A monarchy is a supreme power or sovereignty held by a single person. Ancient Greece at the time rarely had monarchies and if they did it was in the form of a tyranny where the ruler would have little interest in the people. Spartan was known for it’s two king rule and monarchies did exist but they shared power with the states and two of the famous ones are of Macedonia and Epeiros. Not all monarchs had absolute power especially at the times when in war which was led by Spartan army. Spartan Kings could be put on

An example of absolutism monarchy is French King Louis XIV, Russian Tsar Peter the Great, or English King Henry VIII. Democracy is a system of government by elected representatives or officials. Example of democracy is the United States. These type of government exist in the 17th and 18th century in Europe. So the question is, which type of government was considered the most effective in Europe? In my opinion, I believe that absolutism was the most effective in Europe.
The government within the monarchical society was populated by the aristocracy. It was they who were depended upon for directing the course of governmental affairs. The controls of all co...
An absolute monarch is a ruler by divine right who has control over every portion of his kingdom. The most famous absolute monarch, Louis XIV, had the longest reign of any of the French kings. Louis achieved this as a result of his reformed laws, foreign policy, a smart economic advisor, and his decision to deny power to the nobility. Although some of these ideas could be viewed as having a negative impacting on France, overall Louis XIV’s absolute government was beneficial to the development of his country.
Absolutism is a type of government that is ruled by an absolute ruler. They claim to rule by divine right, meaning that God chooses them to rule. Citizens have no part in determining who will lead their country. Because of this, most absolutist rulers are inclined to be boastful, self-centered, greedy, and ruthless. They are in control of every part of their land, including “…competing jurisdictions, institutions…interest groups,” and “…religious sects” (McKay), in their territories, and they constantly desire to expand. War is the only solution, so kings have to have a strong and organized army. “Discipline is the soul of armies; without it there are no soldiers, only confusion and defeat” (Oakeshott). Brutal rulers, such as Adolf Hitler, Ivan the Terrible, and Genghis Khan, had exceptional armies.
At the top of this government was the royal family, headed by a king. They had a hierarchy throughout the land, and maintained control through the use of their army.
A "guided republic" is a form of government where an essentially omnipotent council determines the legislation passed by the legislative body. Though the legislative and executive branches may be elected by the people, they supervising power is not and therefore has the ability to rule in any way they please. The council can, and often does, refuse the rights to freedom of press, speech, and religion. They may prevent bills that attempt to revive these powers and, in the same sense, may prohibit people from speaking about ideas that oppose those of the council. This governing group does not hesitate to use violent force to protect their power. At its worst, a "guided republic" is a tyrannical fo...

1.A monarchy is a system of government where there is one absolute ruler who inherits the crown from his/ her parents or close relatives. 2.There are three different kinds of monarchies, absolute- the kind of monarchy in the selection-, as well as limited and constitutional . 3.An absolute monarchy has a King (or a queen ) who fully controls the government. He is in charge of the military, appoints all officials and has a final say in everything. There are only a few absolute monarchies left in the world today. 4. A limited monarchy is a government that is ruled by a King or Queen who shares power with a parliament (Congress) who helps him/ her make decisions. 5. A Constitutional monarchy is where a King or Queen acts as the head of state in a government. They have to follow the constitution and the ability to make and pass legislation is the job of an elected parliament, not the King's. In this context, an absolute monarch would be revolve around a single leader (usually a king) that would make decisions without the assistance of the aristocracy, such as a the nobility, the parliament, or other organizations that include the interest of wealthy families or government officials. In this case, the king would act alone in deciding the political, economic, and military decisions of the people, which would illustrate the absolute power that is wielded by the individual making the decisions. This governmental interpretation of the term “absolute” defines how a king would rule without the interference or inhibitions of an aristocracy or democratic form of government. Of course, the realization of this type o government can be better explained through the context of the absolute monarchy in France, which was founded in the leadership of king Louis
Throughout history different types of instrumental regimes have been in tact so civilizations remained structured and cohesive. As humanity advanced, governments obligingly followed. Although there have been hiccups from the ancient times to modern day, one type of government, democracy, has proven to be the most effective and adaptive. As quoted by Winston Churchill, democracy is the best form of government that has existed. This is true because the heart of democracy is reliant, dependent, and thrives on the populaces desires; which gives them the ability for maintaining the right to choose, over time it adjusts and fixes itself to engulf the prominent troubling issues, and people have the right of electing the person they deem appropriate and can denounce them once they no longer appease them. In this paper, the benefits of democracy are outlined, compared to autocratic communism, and finally the flaws of democracy are illustrated.
Monarchy is a system of government in which one person reigns, usually a king or queen (Dictionary.com, 2017). In ancient Greece the monarch was a king since women were not viewed as equals to men and they therefore had no rights. Monarchies were rare and were distinguished from tyranny when the hereditary ruler ruled in genuine interest of the people. The monarch would take power legally and his sovereignty was hereditary. The ruler was entitled to remain in power until the time of his death. An example of a city state whose government was a monarchy was the city state of Corinth.
