This advertisement was found in the October issue of Cosmopolitan. “Got Milk” advertisements are seen in all types of magazines from sports to beauty, featuring many different kinds of celebrities selling their product. The product being sold in “Got Milk” advertisements is, of course, milk. They are trying to reinforce that the calcium in milk keeps bones strong and helps prevent osteoporosis. In this advertisement for milk irony is it’s secret weapon to get the point across. There is a green eyed blonde with a low cut “little black dress” caressing her flawless body with her arm around a martini glass filled with milk. She is seductively leaning against a glass covered wooden bar with a luring gleam in her eyes. Her and the milk are the main focus of this advertisement. In the background is faded liquor and wine bottles. While looking at her you cannot take your eyes off of her milk mustache and the milk martini glass that got to touch her full pink lips. The irony of this advertisement is that out of all the handsome tall liquor bottles, she chose the thin lean martini with milk in it. The difference between her night black dress and the pure white milk contrasts like night and day. Good and bad shows their faces at the bar. The sex appeal of this woman in a bar full of alcohol drinking milk makes you question what the purpose of this add is. The positioning, proportions, and color in this ad portray the use of the goodness/purity of white milk positioned directly by the dark seductive woman and liquor bottles, which make you question what is good and bad for yourself.
The proportions of the liquor bottles and the martini milk glass in this advertisement show the sizes, or importance of these objects. The liquor bottles, being small and in the back of the advertisement show that they are not as important to the viewer as the milk, which is larger and in the front. Of course it would be this way because the whole point of the advertisement is selling the product, milk. The liquor bottles are, therefore, in the back of the advertisement to cause your eye to wander to notice them and to intrigue your conscience. The martini glass is tall and slender just like the woman that stands beside it. The figure of the martini glass stands out to the viewer and makes him or her think about what is right for their body. The martini glass is a positive aspect of ...

...s for yourself. With the dark, liquor bottles in the background it suggests to the viewer that they should accept the temptation and not choose the milk. The milk, being the only white object in the advertisement is chosen by the woman and will influence the viewers by the vibrant white color of the milk. The colors used in this advertisement try to influence and tempt the viewer into picking what is bad for them, but because of the bold, white color of the milk viewers are not mistaken.
The use of the goodness/purity of white milk positioned directly by the dark seductive woman and liquor bottles, that make you question what is good and bad for you is portrayed by the proportions, positioning, and color in the advertisement. The proportions show the sizes and importance of the objects in this advertisement by deceiving the eyes of the viewer. The martini milk glass and the liquor bottles in this advertisement lead one to think about the good and bad choices they make for themselves everyday by the positioning of the objects. The enforcement of the idea, black and white, or good and bad, is described through the colors of the liquor bottles and the martini milk glass.
The main aspect of this story is how race should not be someone’s entire identity, and that there are other parts of people that create who they are. Personality has nothing to do with whether someone is black or white, and throughout the story the reader catches themselves making these assumptions and feeding in to these stereotypes. Both Roberta and Twyla find difficulties in determining whether or not Maggie was black or white, and their memories seem to be unreliable. Roberta remembers Maggie being black while Twyla
This advertisement uses a combination of star power and a simple color scheme to draw viewers in. Most people know who Kim Kardashian is and by showing her having fun, the viewer subconsciously links that to the fun they would have. The black and white shades are all bland when compared to the green color of the bottle, the drink, and Kim's dress. By using the natural color of the drink to show off Kim's dress in the middle of the crowd, tells the viewer that by drinking this liqueur, they will also stand
The target audience is both males and females in their late teens to mid twenties. This company gets the male side of the equation by getting their attention and interest drawn to the attractive woman on the right with bright colors drawing your attention there as well as the bottle of whiskey which is right in the middle of the page. Then what gets these peoples attention to stay there is the fact they have an incredibly good looking female who is posing in next to nothing. Then a way that they try and get the females to look at the advertisement and read it is by showing a very plain girl who seems to be very typical of girls during their younger years. Then beside they show the same girl who now has become a women who is very attractive and just seems so much more powerful and sure of herself. One way that you can achieve that is if you drink Evan Williams Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey.
Poe uses the aspects of dramatic and verbal irony, foreshadowing and symbolism to shape his tale of revenge. Fortunato's fate is death and Montresor tries to make his intentions seem honorable. His intentions were not honorable, just evil. He does however, manage to get what he set out for, revenge.
The advertisement's rich red coloring immediately strikes a viewer with exciting and salacious overtones. The red lettering, border, cigarette package, and swimsuit all emphasize social and physical pleasure. The other colors' absence only strengthens the red coloring's implications.
The bold print also indicates for the woman to remove her clothes, or for the viewer to do so. Everything is very clean, clear, and appealing to the eye. There is a highlight around the woman’s body leaving her look like she’s glowing. The weight scale is indicating that the woman has lost weight and she is shocked by how much she weighs now. The company displays this petite woman which advertises, if you drink their product then the consumers can look like her. This add is posing as a sex symbol for men and is showing younger women that they should look like this woman in the ad. This ad is also indicating that only ‘sexy’ and ‘healthy’ woman can produce healthier milk.
Though at first glance, the woman is depicted as the inferior while she caters to the man, and is also quite devalued as a person as she is wearing revealing clothing, there appears to be an underlying competition between the man and woman in the advertisement, this is emphasized by the colors and symbols. The woman uses sex and alcohol to weaken the man, in attempt to gain some dominance in the man’s world. However, from the advertisment’s title, it is seen that the actions of the female are “antagonistic.” The woman is criticized for her techniques at achieving power yet the male is not criticized for objectifying women or using them to fulfill sexual fantasies. While an advertisement for Skyy Vodka, this ad presents the world of a successful, white male and warns him against the young seductress, desperate for power.
The first indirect factor that could contribute to Montresor’s vengeful act, and thus the story’s theme of revenge, is the character of Montresor. Montresor tends to harbor feelings of resentment and has a hard time not taking things out of context (Womack). He also plans the murder of Fortunato in advance and devises it in such a way that he will not be caught. In killing Fortunato, Montreso...
In conclusion, we can see how everything presented in an advertisement can actually have an impact in the people. Although the company’s target was to sell their product, their way of transmitting the message to the people also fortifies the stereotype. Thus, the media today does abuse the power of stereotyping in order to gain a favorable reputation. Everything they present in the ad, from symbolism to the lifestyle of the characters, race, age and gender, has an effect on strengthening the stereotype. In this case, women are perceived as emotionally drained, weak and incapable, although now a days that characterization is trying to be broken because women are much more than that and can actually get to achieve greater things.
For my semiotic analysis I chose to talk about a commercial for ‘Be delicious’ from Donna Karan New York to demonstrate how advertising generates its meanings, construct the image and behaviors ideology in order to attract customers.
The models are thin and wearing nice, party dresses, which show a fair amount of skin. This showing of skin creates a fashionable and carefree image. The dresses that the two women wear are tasteful and complement each one individually, adding a sense of appeal to the men and women that are viewing the advertisement. The clothing, fitted to slimmer models, implies that Diet Coke does not cause weight gain. The dresses "promise" the consumer that they will look thinner and more radiant if they drink the product. Also, the Diet Coke advertisement uses thin models to portray that drinking this product is harmless to the body. The slim models compel the viewers to believe that they won 't gain weight if they drink this beverage. If young women see beautiful girls drinking Diet Coke, they 'll want to drink it too, so that they might look as attractive as the models. Meanwhile, the young men who see this advertisement will want to drink a Diet Coke so that they would have a common interest with girls similar to those presented. When an individual sees the image of the two models having a fun time, they associate it with the Coca Cola brand and will want to buy a Diet
An analysis of the signs and symbols used in Patek Philippe Geneve's "Begin your own tradition" advert.
The major characteristics of the narrator and main character, Montresor, are anger, hatred, and revenge. In the story, he is angry with Fortunato because he believes that Fortunato has wronged and insulted him many times by saying, “thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as best I could…he ventured upon insult…” (Poe). In addition, Montresor’s hatred for Fortunato goes so far that he believes he must kill Fortunato. He mentions this in the story as, “[y]ou, who so well know the nature of my soul, will not suppose, however, that I gave utterance to a threat” (Poe). He seems to say that his soul is made of hatred and goes on to say he must give Fortunato the utmost punishment: death. Montresor even shows traits of revenge when he says, “…but when [Fortunato] ventured upon insult, I vowed revenge.” and “...I would be avenged…” (Poe). He is saying that he will get revenge on Fortunato, whom he is angry with and hates for being insulted by.
