“As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be a gangster.” Henry Hill played by Ray Liotta says this as the film Goodfellas starts. That is just one of the memorable things about this movie. Goodfellas is a well-known film directed by Martin Scorsese. The few who have not watched are truly missing out on a great movie. It is among the best crime movies ever created by Martin Scorsese. Goodfellas is known to be a great film because it is not like the typical mob movie. When people are asked about about this movie, he/she might talk about how much cursing there is, or how the ending was kind of a plot twist, most will say it is a good movie. The way the movie is recorded makes the audience feels like they know him personally. It gives the woman a chance to share her view of all that goes on in the film, so females can relate. The camera follows Henry around, making the audience feel like they know him personally. This film also shows that even crime families still act like any other family, giving families a chance to relate. Goodfellas leaves the audience with a memorable character or a character they can relate to. Last, but definitely not least, the movie shoes how a simple choice could make a big difference which most people can relate to.
Although these people commit crimes they are still like any other family giving the audience a chance to relate to the family. A family eats together, and stays in everyone’s best interest in the family. In an by Roderick Heath he writes “ Goodfellas shows how crime families are just that – families consisting of people who spend all their time together, living, dying, raising families in each other’s laps”(Heath). When Henry’s wife was threatening to break up with him his friends c...

New Jack City, noted as ‘the crime film of the 90’s’,serves as an important episode for African-American people in America. Set in New York city, the film depicts the story of a success-driven antagonist Nino Brown (Wesley Snipes) who builds an empire powered by organized crime, drug trafficking, and Black delinquent young adults trapped in the cycle of crime. Ronald Reagan’s economic policy coupled with the popularity of crack-cocaine in the inner city creates inconsistencies and untapped markets in the poor community which Nino Brown brilliantly capitalizes on and exploits. His empire is able to successfully cut out the middle men in the drug trafficking market and centralize their operation in a single low-income housing complex inhabited
The noir style is showcased in Sunset Boulevard with its use of visually dark and uncomfortable settings and camera work, as well as its use of the traditional film noir characters. In addition, the overall tone and themes expressed in it tightly correspond to what many film noirs addressed. What made this film unique was its harsh criticism of the film industry itself, which some of Wilder’s peers saw as biting the hand that fed him. There is frequent commentary on the superficial state of Hollywood and its indifference to suffering, which is still a topic avoided by many in the film business today. However, Sunset Blvd. set a precedent for future film noirs, and is an inspiration for those who do not quite believe what they are being shown by Hollywood.
Following careful thought on which director to study, I chose Francis Ford Coppola. Although he has directed more films than I have had the opportunity to experience, I have viewed enough to understand his progression and style of his work. Over almost forty years of work, Coppola has directed about twenty-five films, produced near forty-five, composed two, and acted in eight. He is known predominantly for Apocalypse Now (1979) and The Godfather I (1972), II (1974), and III (1990). However, he has worked in other genres, such as Horror/Romance, Musical, and even Comedy.
The Boondock Saints movie exhibits and demonstrates many possible causes and reasons for social deviance. One example of this is shown in the Subjective view of deviance through a Constructionist Theory. The Subjectivist believes that a deviant person is a conscious, feeling, thinking subject and that one should understand the experience of that person. From a Constructionist perspective, deviants are actively seeking meanings in the deviant activities. The brothers in the movie are seeking meaning from their killing. They believe that they are on a mission from God, and that they will be protected and blessed for doing this.
The film’s opening scene is of Frank LoCascio asking John Gotti questions and speaking on his behalf of what it means to be in a crime family. Note, this is after he is sentenced to life in prison. Neil Dellacroce, John Gotti’s mentor, taught Gotti everything he knows. Gotti goes into great detail of what
The issue of how we should be educated and what we should learn in school is a highly talked about issue in the United States today. Should students go to school for twelve years? Do they need to all of these standardized tests to be a successful adult in society? Or issues such as grading and how it affects students. Good Will Hunting is a positive movie for a viewer, which shows the issue we see in schools and society today of being schooled or being well educated. Will Hunting is a janitor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a rather quiet individual that doesn’t do much except clean the college and hang out with his friends. He does not go to college and instead is the janitor at one of the most prestigious

Imagine it being Saint Valentine’s Day, you would think all people wanted was a great love to share it with. However, what about sharing it with your rival? The one you hate the absolute most? Ask Al Capone - the most popular and powerful gangster of them all. Capone thrives to kill George “Bugs” Moran. Capone and Moran constantly fight for the title of being the best gangster. Both of them are completely obsessed with and drawn to money, power, and popularity.
Vito Corleone, also known as the Godfather, satisfied all people’s requests on his daughter’s wedding day. The Godfather has three sons. Sonny, the Godfather’s oldest son, was an irritable man and lusted for girls. Fredo, the second son, was a cowardly man. Michael, the youngest son, was a hero during World War II. After the wedding was ending, the Godfather came back to New York and met a gangster named Sollozzo. Sollozzo wanted to involve the Corleone family in his business of narcotics. Sollozzo hired a killer to assassinate the Godfather on the street after the Godfather refused his offer. When Michael went to the hospital, he saw no people there to protect the Godfather. He decided to move his father to another room with a nurse because
The Godfather is most notably one of the most prolific films of its time. This "gangster" film displayed many transformations of permeating color to give the viewer observable cues in its mise en scene that drew one right into the movie. The dramatic acting set the tone of the film with a score that lifted the viewer right out of their seat in many scenes. The directing and cinematography made The Godfather ahead of its time. The nostalgic feel of family importance and the danger of revenge lets us into the life of the Mafia. Even though no other techniques would have given the viewer a feeling of inside the mob like the mise en scene of the power the godfather held, the characters are reinforced literally and figuratively because the story views the Mafia from the inside out, and the cinematography of the film gives it a dangerous and nostalgic feel.
