Making a presentation just like to give a class to the audience, the lecturers are the teacher and the audience are their students. The necessary part of a good lecture diffuses the main minds and thinking to these students.’ Thus, the lecturer must deem his words are extremely perfect. He must be confident for your topic. I have been a student at Heriot-Watt University for two semesters, and over the course of my stay I have grown and learned more than I thought possible. Going through the Approaches to learning program (APL) has taught me so much more, like oral presentation skills. It helped me to grow self-confidence. I did not just develop my self-confidence but I have learned here how to search for relevant information relating to the specific topic given and learned critical thinking as well. After reviewing the recording of my speech on creating a comic strip, I noticed that I used many techniques to deliver my speech in a professional way, but I had also made many mistakes when I was presenting. What I thought I did well on my speech was using my voice which projected to classroom very well, even when I turned away from the class to use the whiteboard. Although I noticed when I was using the whiteboard, I tried to use keep my sentences and words short and simple so I would not always be facing away from my audience; however, I found that very counter effective since I seemed to rush through my demonstration part not taking the time to explain why the steps were very effective. Also, when I used my very own comic as an example to show to the class how very effective the steps where it showed that I was serious about my speech and gave them an insight that comic strips do not heavily rely on talent on art or writing.

In public speaking I learned many types of concepts, theories and terms of communication. In concepts of publicly speaking there’s, relaxation, practice, credibility, attention getters, attire, organization, volume, emotion, audience relation, and movement. On Tuesday before class started, we had a group meeting concerning our oral presentation. Most of us have met a week earlier to discuss what we were going to talk about during the presentation. We put it together on PowerPoint and quickly went over all the slides. One thing I learned about our group is that some of us tend to shy away when doing presentations in front of the class. Voluntarily I wouldn’t go up, depending what the topic is and if I knew much about it. If I prepare for it, I don’t mind doing it. Communication is very important when working in groups. This is what keeps most of them together. Communication wasn’t a problem in our group because most of us knew each other. Some of the members I do not usually communicate to because they aren’t in my class while a few are. Sometimes when people are communicating, I find that there is a language barrier between us where I might not be sure what they are saying. If this happens, I usually just tell that I didn’t catch what they said if and if they can repeat it. At other times, it can be just my listening skills. Although we didn’t have a long meeting, we practiced just reading the slides to each other. Because we each worked on our own part of the presentation, we had to explain to each other what we did and what information we are presenting so that everyone in the group is familiar.
