What is “good hair”? “Good Hair” is a very popular phrase in the Black community, it mainly refers to an African-American’s hair that closely shows similarity to the hair of a European descendent (Soft, silky and straight). The way society identifies it is the more your hair resembles that of another race, the more "reasonable" your hair is. So, because of its texture, African American’s hair, society perceives it as “bad hair”? What is considered beautiful in today’s culture? In this world that we live in today you have to look a certain way to even be considered beautiful. In this culture, straighter hair is seen as “more attractive” than kinky curly hair. Unfortunately, we cannot blame no one, but ourselves.

In the video Rachel gives a speech to a group of black students and professors. Dolezal opened her lecture by reading the poem Among the Things That Used to Be by Willi Coleman, a professor at the University of Vermont. She talks with the group of women about embracing their natural hair, educating them on the history and beauty of the natural coils and kinks that they’re born with. Though truly not of African-American descendant Rachel gives off Practical Wisdom, or Craft. Heinrichs explains practical wisdom as “You appear to know the right thing to do in every situation.” (69) Rachel studied African-American studies so by default you’ll think she knows her share in the culture and its lifestyle. She showed similarity to a professor of college students. The way she talked and walked showed a sense of power. Professors are college instructors who are here to further our education. Rachel was there enlightening these group of Black women on their heritage and roots. Professors carry that power where you can feel the knowledge dwindling off of them.
