Good Advice
I consider good advice to be a balanced combination of many things. To me, the most important is that when I receive advice, it must not be forced onto me. When advice is truly sincere, it is given to me in the hopes that I might take it, but it should never make me feel guilty if I don't. A perfect example of a forced piece of advice, is article A that we read about contractions. To me, this article didn't advise the reader about what not to do, but it told them. It pretty much said that you "can" do this and you "can't" do that. Good advice should just throw another opinion up in the air, and let the advisee choose what to do with it.
The whole idea behind giving advice, is that it allows the advisor to state their opinion about something concerning the advisee, and hope that it is of some use to them. Advice involves two people, the advisor (giver of advice), and the advisee (taker of advice). Both people play an equal role in the giving and taking of advice. Someone can give me all of the advice that they want to, but if I choose not to take the advice, then the cycle is incomplete. However, it doesn't mean that the advice is worthless, because it may be of use at a later date. My job is to determine what I want to do with the advice given to me. If I believe it is good, then I will put it to use, probably in the near future. If I don't agree with it, then I may disregard it totally.
Another thing that constitutes good advice is that it should be honest. If I give someone advice that I wouldn't take, were I put in the same situation, then it most likely isn't good. If I know that the advice clearly isn't going to work, but it "sounds good," then that isn't good advice at all. Don't give it if you wouldn't take it.
Good advice must also come from a reliable source. When I ask someone for advice I should trust that he/she won't lead me in the wrong direction. The information (advice) that they give me should, in no way, be of any benefit to themselves over the me and my situation. A perfect example of this is the advice that Earl gave to Jackie.
Some people raise a concern about employment practices with Wal-Mart. There are definitely two sides to this argument. Wal-Mart has been sued recently for allegedly making employees work overtime, off the clock, in order save money in payroll expenses. There has also been concern of the amount of money that Wal-Mart pays employees. Many employees have complained of being paid only minimum wage for extended periods of time. On the other hand, Wal-Mart has created thousands of jobs in small communities when stores open up. This has helped many communities that struggle with high unemployment rates. Another thing that Wal-Mart has done is allow anyone displaced by hurricane Katrina to be placed in a job at any other Wal-Mart in the country. One other questionable employment practice that has been brought up by employees is discrimination. Wal-Mart has been the plaintiff in many discrimination law suits in recent years, claiming that Wal-Mart discriminates in many ways against women and minorities. I guess the employment practices of Wal-Mart could be looked at as favorable or unfavorable depending on how you look at it. However, one has to wonder if Wal-Mart creates programs like the hurricane Katrina program just in order to create positive publicity.

So your opinions on the topic may or may not help out the situation and also in some unfortunate cases can send the client into a ‘downward spiral’. By expressing your ethical issues on the topic to your client you may trigger unwanted emotions. These unwanted emotions can drive the client to hurt themselves or even make the client take legal actions towards the counselor. Ways to prevent this from happening is learning your own self-control and what your limits are when its comes to dealing the client. “You want to consider the best action that will protect your client’s needs, but you also want to ask yourself: What is the best action to protect the profession and myself? In Speaking of Walmart’s history, Time magazine says, “You don’t become one of the most powerful private organizations in the history of human civilization without turning over a few apple carts…It is the story of an unwavering pursuit of innovation and efficiency and the casualties of that pursuit” (Matthews.) There are certainly costs to be considered as major retailers like Walmart cause bankruptcy and an exodus of jobs from America to Asia. Nevertheless, Walton’s influence and the benefits of low prices and convenience of shopping is undeniable. In fact, economists have found surprising benefits to the building of a Walmart in a community, “Our estimates suggest that a new Walmart store actually increases housing prices by between 2 and 3 percent for houses located within 0.5 miles of the store and by 1 to 2 percent for houses located between 0.5 and 1 mile” (Pope et al.) What is most interesting about opposition to Walmart is that is a true American start-up. No company founder wears the title of self-made American than Walton, a captain in the US military and an Oklahoma native (Our
The mice council: In order to avoid the cat’s pursuing, the mice made a decision to tie a bell to the neck of the cat so they can escape before the cat catch them. But when they debate who should bell the cat, no one would like to do this. There are many times when we need to give advise to others. So we give advice, which seems pretty perfect, but in fact, it’s really difficult to carry on. Thinking deeply before we give advice to others is of vital importance .
Wal-Mart is a Multinational retail company founded on July 12, 1962, in Rogers Arkansas, by Sam Walton. Wal-Mart. has over 11,000 stores in 27 other countries, and has become a house hold name. Wal-Mart has the largest company by revenues in the world. Owning over 2.2 million employees , it has the biggest private employer in the world. Wal-Mart is also the worlds most valuable company by market value. In 2009 Wal-Mart created over 51 percent of its $258 billion in the United states from their grocery department. But as wonderful as Wal-Mart claims to be with their “promising prices” , Wal-Mart has had some hidden , and irresponsible skeletons in their closets. For example how when a Wal-Mart would come into a small town with their
Dr.King states several times in his speech how he wants to abolish the segregation and racial discrimination in the nation and how he feels so vividly about how he wants the nation to come together and be one big “beautiful symphony of brotherhood.” Dr.King explains how African Americans shall not “wallow in the valley of despair,” and how the African American race shall rise to end discrimination on their
Good advice has a different meaning for everyone. For me, good advice must be given by someone I trust. They need to be honest and sincere in what they tell me. They must lay the facts down in front of me and tell me what they would do in my situation. In the end the adviser must let me decide to use their advice. If it is good advice what they told me will change my view or action for the better.
First and foremost, one eminently important thing that gets overlooked day after day after day is teenagers abusing drugs. Giving advice to people that are thinking about doing drugs could really help stop them. Doing drugs is an horrific thing and giving people advice beforehand could save them hard times. Advice to people in need could save their lives in ways that are hard to explain.
The Roman philosopher Cicero wrote, “Nobody can give you wiser advice than yourself.” I completely agree with than one famous quote but I also think you should always consider other people's advice. Him or her should alway consider and have more than one person opinion. Like taking advice from your family or close friends everyone's answer will be different. Your mother is going to give you advice way different from anything your father would say depending on the situations.
Defer judgment. Often times we are faced with many obstacles in the workplace. Things may break down or you might have to improvise to get the job done. We should never criticize someone’s idea or say that it will never work. For example, at work sometimes machines may stop working properly. We have to make the decision on what to do in order to complete the work load. My co-workers and I brainstorm together to come up with the best solution. We never say that will not work until we try it.
Proper Counseling: A Lawyer is responsible to counsel his client deeply and should tell him the future consequences, so that the client can take right decision.
Whenever you have something you need to talk about and you can’t tell anyone, you should be able to tell your friend. When trusting someone, you should be able to leave them with your most prized possession and not once think twice about whether it’s in safe hands.... ... middle of paper ... ... If you surround yourself with positive and goal-oriented people, you will most likely get the best out of life.
In this experience, I saw a client ask the counselor what they thought they should do in a situation where both choices were not desirable. The counselor did not give their opinion and it seemed like the client left more frustrated and confused than when he had come in. I empathized with him and frankly was a bit annoyed with the counselor for not giving him advice or her opinion. After the session, the counselor had mentioned that it was necessary for the client to make the decision by himself. Although I could appreciate this, I was not completely satisfied with this
