The metal I’ve chosen to write an essay about is gold, gold is a metal prized for its beauty, usefulness and stockout. Throughout history, people have seeked for gold more eagerly than any other metal. Gold has the atomic symbol Au and the atomic number of 79. Because it has an atomic number of 79, it makes gold one of the higher atomic number elements that naturally occur in the universe. Gold is a soft, dense, malleable metal and has a slightly reddish yellow colour to it. Gold is a precious metal which means that gold is a rare, naturally occuring metallic chemical element of high economic value.
The history of gold is that experts of fossil study believe that bits of natural gold were discovered in Spanish caves back in 40,000 B.C, used
Originally Spain found success with finding gold or other mineral wealth not by colonizing, but by conquering and enslaving the local population, such as the Aztecs. As a result, Spain discovered that there was no gold or other mineral wealth to be found past t...
Gold has been valued in our cultural history for as long as societies have been able to adopt this valuable metal’s unique properties. Gold is unique in its inherent marvellous glossy shine. Gold is particularly malleable, conducts electricity, doesn’t blemish and blends well with other metals. Because of these exclusive properties, gold creates its ways in our everyday life in many ways or form. Gold has always had remarkable significance, shown by most civilizations as a symbol of wealth and power. Gold has captivated most of cultures around the world and the passion for it brings to the extermination of some cultures and the growth in condition of others. This essay explores the use of gold over time and perception of the cultures that surround by gold.
As most folks do, when I think of the term “Gold Rush”, it conjures up images of the West! Images of cowboys and crusty old miners ruthlessly and savagely staking their claims. Immigrants coming by boat, folks on foot, horseback, and covered wagon form all over the US to rape and pillage the land that was newly acquired from Mexico through the 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo… California. But let me tell you about a gold rush of another kind, in another place, even more significant. It was the actual first documented discovery of gold in the United States! Fifty years earlier…in North Carolina!
On January 24, 1848, James Wilson Marshall made the discovery of gold in the foothills of Sierra Nevada Mountains near Coloma, California. The discovery by the American carpenter lead to the “greatest mass migration in the history of the United States, . . . (98).” Despite the efforts of keeping the news from leaking out to the public, the news rapidly spread out, and by mid-March a newspaper reported with obvious lack of credibility that gold was found at Sutter’s Mill. At first the people from town didn’t quite found credible such discovery for the lack of evidence, but on May 12, Samuel Brannan proved the scarcity of the resource wrong by show casting a bottle full of gold dust, from there on the beginning of the

find gold in Colorado and Oregon because they wanted to strike rich. Also, people that didn't have a lot of money, saw this as an opportunity to become more wealthy. So most people ended up trying to go and strike it rich. So people found the “hot spots”, and others found the “crap spots”. The creeks near Jacksonville, Illinois River, and Josephine Creek was where gold was found in Oregon. Once the news about the gold near Oregon spread, miners from California and Willamette Valley came. People trusted that they would find gold because Oregon was supposed to have mild weather and very rich soil. The faster you came, the better for two reasons. First, if you came early you could claim land where the gold was. So the earliest people claimed land with a lot of gold on it. Second, the earlier you came the more gold there would of been. So more opportunity for the early people to strike rich. Most men ...
The first gold findings were found at a mill business in stream beds in 1848. Gold mines were immediately put into action underground and above. Easy gold extraction reeled in the inexperienced and experts knowing they could find large quantities of the valuable mineral making them richer faster. Also the actions of cutting class lines with the skilled upper class men and the unskilled lower class laborers working at the same gold fields next to one another(Gold Rush 1849). The extremely wealthy anxious to get more rich than they already were. The poor and middle class to find gold and wealth for a better
In Salinas Valley around the 1850s, gold was found by a man named James W. Marshall in California. The first people to hear and be familiar with the “Gold Rush” were the people in Oregon, Hawaii, and Latin America who started to flock to the state. Everyone told and the word spread which led around 300,000 people to California from the US. At first, gold was found on the ground and was to be picked up. Later on, gold was discovered from streams and riverbeds.
I am going to discuss about the element known as gold in my assignment. To describe the element gold in simple terms, I can only say that it is an element (chemical element). This element is denoted by the symbol Au. It has an atomic number of seventy nine (79). I will describe quite a number of things concerning gold as an element. To begin with is:
The use of a gold pan is one of the oldest and most simple forms of gold mining.( Colledge) The biggest thing to remember about the gold pan is that even though it may be relatively effective in catching gold, its main drawback is that it can only process so much material at one time. This is why the gold pan is not used as a commercial mining tool in the name of processing large amounts of material for pay. A gold pan may be used to get places that can only be reached on foot. But the material must have to be rich enough to make the time worth it if there is only a limited amount of material to be processed. The main use for a gold pan other than recreational purposes is to locate a area with gold bearing ground so that later on commercial mining equipment may be brought in to retrieve gold from a large area of ground
Gold, nothing can compare to this precious metal. A symbol of wealth and prosperity, it has been a value for explorers and adventurers and a lure for conquerors. Today it is vital to commerce and finance; popular in ornamentation, and increasing importance in technology.
Adam Smith wrote in his masterpiece, the wealth of nations, “It is the necessary, though very slow and gradual consequence of a certain propensity in human nature which has in view no such extensive utility; the propensity to truck, barter, and exchange one thing for another” (Smith, 2005). This propensity in human nature led to the development of currency – a medium of exchange accepted by a community of people. For centuries, gold and silver were used around the world as currency; in 1834 the United States, formerly on a bimetallic standard, converted to a gold de facto standard. This policy made it so the dollar was backed by gold at a ratio of $20.67 per ounce. The Gold standard was used until August 15, 1971 when President Richard Nixon
In today’s modern day, popular music has reached an all time low. Music lacks the artistic value that it once had. Singers rarely sing songs they actually wrote, and ironically, it is a rarity for music to have an actual musical instrument in it. Gold by Kiiara is not only bad even by normal popular music standards, it is exceptionally bad. The chorus of Gold by Kiiara contains no actual words.
Around 1848 gold was discovered in the American River, which ran right through California. By 1849 tens of thousands of people from around the world mad...
