Maya Angelou, more formally known as Marguerite Ann Johnson was born on April 4th, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the child of Bailey Johnson and Vivian Baxter Johnson. When Maya was three years old, her parents got divorced. After they divorced, she and her older brother, Bailey Jr., were sent to live with their grandmother in Stamps, Arkansas. They were not sent in a normal fashion, however. Angelou and her brother were placed on a train by themselves by their father. Their father then put a tag on each of them that said “To Whom It May Concern, send these two to Stamps, Arkansas.” With only each other for support, Angelou and her brother made their way to Stamps. In Stamps, their grandmother Annie Henderson owned a general store. While in Stamps, Angelou was subjected to a great deal of racism and discrimination because she was an African American. She grew up during a time where there was an unequal status between blacks and whites. Throughout her whole time in Stamps her grandmother helped her develop a strong sense of self so that she could withstand those racist times they lived in. Her grandmother knew that if she could help Angelou understand who she is and what she stood for, then none of those racist people could get to her.

The organs are removed by doctors in a surgical process following a determination, based on the donor’s medical history.
When you go to get your drivers licence, be sure to mark that you will donate. Put yourself in the shoes of someone waiting for a donation. They hear of people dying and yet nothing will happen for their benefit if these people don?t choose to donate. Picture you husband or wife, on their death bed unless someone will donate their organs. Make the right decision to bring happiness out of death. Do not put your organs to waste, help those in need, and choose to donate.
Organ donors give up things they want to do. For example, in the movie “My Sister’s Keeper” Cate is in need of a donor, so her sister Anna is created to give her body parts to Cate. Anna was “ fine with it” when she was five, or so her mother says. After a while she wanted to enjoy her life and do sports. Previously, Cate said she wanted to leave, Anna had to give up everything she wanted to do. Many other people have to do what Anna did for cate. They have to be very cautious and very careful with their surroundings and what they do. Donors are very helpful for people in need.

Living in Francisco, she attended Mission High School, but later on she dropped out of school to become San Francisco’s first African American female cable car conductor. Maya Angelou decided to go back to school, but in her senior year where she was sixteen and pregnant, she dropped out of school again and gave birth to a son by the name of Clyde Bailey “Guy” Johnson (Maya Angelou). As a teenager, Maya Angelou was in love with the arts. Due to her talent, she won a scholarship to study dance and drama at San Francisco’s Labor School. In the fifties, Angelou “pursued a career in dance and theater, eventually touring twenty-two countries in the cast of Porgy and Bess” (Watkins 15). Organ donation is the taking of healthy organs and tissues from one person and transplanting it into another. Organ donations mostly occur for patients with kidney failure, heart disease, lung disease, and problems of the liver. For patients who need a kidney or a liver, a living donor’s organs can be used. Since humans are already born with two kidneys, one can be taken for a transplant and the person can easily live with the remaining other. It's almost the same for the liver; because it's regenerative and grows back if a piece is to be taken from it. However, if the patient needs a heart, lung, or a pancreas, the organ needs to come from a deceased donor. If the patient consents to an organ transplant, doctors put the patient’s name on a list by the United Network for Organ Sharing, or UNOS. UNOS has a database with all transplant patients waiting for organs and information on all organ transplant centers. Their board of directors have strict policies that decide who will get which organs. Most acceptable donors are those who are brain dead but are still on life support which means their organs are still viable. One of the most enjoyable things in life are road trips, particularly to the Colorado mountains. Getting to spend time with your family and friends, while being in a beautiful place, is irreplaceable. The fifteen-hour road trip may feel never-ending, but gazing at the mountains from afar makes life’s problems seem a little smaller and causes worries to become a thing of the past. Coming in contact with nature, untouched, is a surreal experience. My family trip to the Colorado mountains last summer was inspiring.
