A lot of people debate, argue and even fight about whether or not one should take risks in life. As for me, I think there can’t be only one answer or solution to this question, for there are different types of risks and consequences that person might pay for. Health, money, job, opportunity and a lot more including even someone’s life, might all be associated with risks. My friend goes to Thunder Valley Casino and spends up to two thousand dollars every month. One’s success in life can depend on how well a person interprets reality and understand whether or not it’s worth to take a certain risk.
I think every person takes risks in life. The only difference is how big those risks are. Some people might will to risk their life especially when it comes to extreme sports such as; rally racing, sky diving, BASE jumping, dirt biking, rock climbing. Sometimes these kind of sports, that include risk, can bring a catastrophe to ones life. My two older brothers were racing a car and on one of the turns they lost the control of the car. It went airborne into the pavement and hit couple of tr...
Can We Keep Our Promises? The purpose of this paper is to provide a summary of the article called “Can We Keep Our Promises?” by Robert D. Arnott, and to help better understand the three key risks facing each investor. Robert Arnott describes risk and return as “having two sides of the same coin” meaning risk is inseparable from return. Arnott points out the most important risks that are faced by managers of company pension plans: underperforming other corporate pension funds (their peers), losing money (mostly associated with portfolio standard deviation or volatility), and underperforming the values of pension obligations and therefore losing actuarial ground.
Everyone has taken risks whether they be big or not, they will lead you down the path you choose in life. In the short stories Beowulf, Black Heart, and The Deep taking risks was a big part in all three. In Beowulf, there is many risks that he took, but the main one was that he risked his life to save the people that he loved. In the second book Black Heart by Mark Brazaitis, the girl risked her life to make friends with something she knew could kill her because she was so lonely. In the final book, The Deep by Anthony Doerr the main character made risks every day because he never knew if he was going to wake up to see the next.
We all know that staying safe will keep us alive, but it is a boring way to live. The biggest regret a person can have is never trying what they always wanted. As mentioned before, time never stops, so it is crucial that they act now. We fight a battle before we are even born against millions of others to see who will get to the egg first and be fertilized and born. We did not come to this world to just be safe and to be afraid to do new things. We all have a reason to be here and the journey of life is to find our purpose in life. It is what makes life so great, but to get their we must take risks and overcome that fear. People are afraid of taking risks because of failure. They are afraid to fail and not get anywhere. However, that fear can be overcome is they keep pushing and keep trying and keep taking risks. Taking risks will get a person out of their “safe” comfort zones and the result of this can be something so
Risk taking was measured by playing a video game called chicken. It allowed the participants to make actual decisions in a risky situation. In the conditioned group, the participants would complete "chicken" at the same time and would be able to communicate with each other. The other groups were separated by placing one of the participants into a room while he/she completed the game while the other two waited outside. Risk preference was measured by five risky scenarios that the participants had to choose from. Again, one of the groups were able to discuss among themselves while the other group had to choose from the risks individually. Finally, risky decision making was measured again by 5 risky scenarios only this time the scenarios included consequences that may result from the given the
When it comes to taking risks people tend to view them as unwise, complicated and far out of their comfort zone. As a result, they become frightened and obtain the mistaken belief that they are incapable of taking on new opportunities, which can possibly set them up for success. Such beliefs are what cause people to make poor choices, and thus disable them to live a life worth living. Dr. Seuss, “Oh, the Places you’ll go” was intended to express the various amounts of great places life has to offer, but it is all up to the reader where they decide to go, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. (…). And you are the guy who’ll decide where to go.”(Places). Every single person has control over what they want to be in l...
Most people think that nothing bad will happen to them (e.g. robbery, kidnapping, theft, rape, domestic violence and so on), but the truth is that no one is protected. It is widely known how powerful the personal experience can be regarding the recognition of risk and the eagerness to take to take precautions. Even when people fail to take precautions, this also can be attributed to experience, which means it needs an examination.
Risk is something that generally entails the potential of loss, and also the potential of gain. A risk is undertaken when the end result is considered to be greater than the potential damage that could be done in the event that the end result is not reached. The decision depends upon the level of fear of the individual and how likely they feel the opposing development inherent within the risk to occur. Individuals in today’s society go against their self-control and voluntary perform risk to see how far they can push their limits (Lupton, 1999).
I’ve known so many people who have had their lives cut short unexpectedly. You never can really know when your last day is, so why waste it doing things that don’t make you happy? So many people settle for less, just because it is easier and more comfortable. Life is short to begin with, and it can be cut even shorter at any possible moment. I think people should take risks and aim for the things that will ultimately leave them satisfied with their life.
I am a rule follower and I do not take many risks. However, I do agree with the other points such as doing things in my own way, not doing things repeatedly, and seeing situations differently from others. I have phobia anxiety. Taking risks is extremely hard for me to do. I like to control the situation because of my fear of death. I have had a hard struggle with my anxiety since the age of thirteen. So in order to not have so much anxiety I tend to do things in a controlled way. This also makes me view things in different situations. Mostly because of being a control freak.

To take a chance, one is accepting the possibilities of what could happen from the choice they have made.
Not every event has a guaranteed outcome- sometimes, one has to take a gamble in the game of life. There are some, however, who would prefer to travel within the safe, confined lane of actions with a definite outcome. Deciding whether or not to take risks in life can be tricky, but as Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Do not be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment.” This quote means that people should take risks in their endeavors, because life is precisely about trying new things and experiences. As the quote explains, taking risks in life is a vital step to success, fulfillment, and gaining more out of experiences.
No one should feel they did not take the high road in order to enable them to fulfill that one great adventure. Life is full of ups and downs; it could be described as a huge pot of gold with a few dingy stones mixed together. The dingy stones are the few misfortunes one may come across; the gold is what everyone wants, and hopefully attains. To achieve anything, one must take risks and not ask questions regarding tomorrow.
First, a courageous act must be known to the person that it’s dangerous. Most people wouldn't even think about doing an act that was dangerous even if they would be labeled as a courageous person afterward. If an act is risky it is hard to get someone to do it because the majority of people need not be injured in order to go to work or even just do normal everyday activities. Although most may not actively put their lives in dangerous situations
