eyebrows when being discussed about. As a result of GMOs being used in the production of food, GMOs have caused many risks that have affected the health of people as well as the creation of a false idea, which will negatively affect our future. In order for these risks to come to an end, the use of Genetically Modified Organisms must be banned from the production of food in the United States.

the consumers. Many health problems have affected people throughout the introduction of GMOs and the risks only seem to grow. And with each injected food item carrying a possibility of carcinogens such as , more and more people are being at risk of developing diseases in their bodies(Philips1). People are now also getting allergic reactions because of their consumption of modified food.(Paturel and Nazario 3). When these people are being affected, they are clueless as to why they are developing health problems. Since only about 5% of the population know about the reality of Genetically Modified Organisms, we understand the reason as to why the number of these health complications are increasing(Paturel and Nazario 3). People are becoming sick and nothing has been put in place to stop the risks of more people getting health complications. With the lack of importance towards GMOs, many have been effected with other risks than just health. Despite the truth of Genetically Modified Organisms being known about by people in the population, many people have the wrong impression of GMOs, and often believing in misleading information.
Even though many do not know information about GMOs, some are being misinformed about the truth of GMOs. Since the creation of Genetically Modified Organisms in the 1930s, many have been told that GMOs are safe and do not have negative effects upon consumption, which is misleading and not fully trustworthy(Miller1). As a result, many who have been misleaded have been tricked into believing false information and are now affected with various risks. With various surveys being conducted in order to see the viewpoints of people on the use of GMOs in food, the number of people who are pro-GMO is only increasing. Whenever ⅓ of 1,000 people surveyed are in favor for chemicals that have a possibility of hurting them, then there must be a resolution to this ongoing problem(Philips1). The government should reduce these numbers and provide the truth to the public. We need to realize ourselves that the reality of food production is not being provided to us, and if we want to end the false ideas from affecting us anymore. Instead having 23% of 1000 people knowing about GMOs, everyone must know the truth and reality of the food production in the U.S(Non Gmo1). If so were to happen, consequently the future of the nation will become increasing in
positivity. As a result of the increase of Genetically Modified Organisms throughout history, the future of the food production in the U.S. will create an increase of risks of people who have consumed GMO contaminated food. Since the U.S has approved the use of GMOs in the production of food, many companies throughout history have began to create more chemicals which have resulted in an increase of health risks for consumers(Non Gmo 1). If GMOs stay legalized in the production of food, then there may be an increase of new health problems amongst consumers. Many of the people who do know of the results of GMO contaminated foods do not want new chemicals to be injected in foods, and would rather want no chemicals in their food(Nazario and Patruel 3). If the government ever decides to join the other nations such as Australia, Japan, Britain, etc that have banned the use of GMOs in food production, then there would be a decrease in health related problems and a decrease of other possible risks (Gmo Facts 1). If the use of GMOs is banned, the future of the nation will become greater and healthier. In conclusion, Genetically Modified Organisms must be banned from the production of food in U.S. in order to decrease the various risks that it creates. Despite GMOs causing many problems and risks that affect our health, thoughts, and potentially our future, the U.S. government has not considered banning chemicals such as GMOs from the production of food. However, if the whole could unite and discuss their problems to the government, then possibly actions could be made to prevent any more risks and problems. The next time you look in your refrigerator, think of the food you're about to eat and think about where it really came from and then decide if you want to take that risk of having more risks in the future.
Food is an essential part of everyday life without it one could not survive. Every day we make choices on what we put in to our bodies. There are countless varieties of food to choose from to meet the diverse tastes of the increasing population. Almost all food requires a label explaining the ingredients and the nutritional value allowing consumers to make informed decisions on what they are consuming. However, many may not be considering where that food is coming from or how it has been produced. Unfortunately, there is more to food than meets the eye. Since 1992, “ the U.S. Food and Drug Administration ruled, based on woefully limited data, that genetically modified foods were ‘substantially equivalent’ to their non-GM counterparts” (Why to Support Labeling). GM food advocates have promised to create more nutritious food that will be able to grow in harsh climate conditions and eventually put an end to world hunger in anticipation of the growing population. There is very little evidence to support these claims and study after study has proven just the opposite. GM crops are not only unsafe to consume, but their growing practices are harmful to the environment, and multinational corporations are putting farmers out of business.

Although GMOs have been in the US food industry for almost twenty years, consumers should have the right to know what is in our food with mandatory GMO labeling.

If you read the paper or watch the news, you’re undoubtedly aware of the debate raging over genetically modified food. Is it bad or is it good? Between the feuding sides, you might find yourself a little lost and wondering which side is right. Answers to seemingly simple questions have been blurred or exaggerated by both sides. On one side genetically modified food is more sustainable, safe, cheaper, easier to grow and has the potential of creating disease-fighting foods. Although this is positive and good intentioned, there may be unintended consequences that we have been quick to overlook. To begin with, there is too much Gmo in our food. We should make less foods with GMO and grow more foods on farms. Also a lot of people prefer non GMO foods over GMO foods. Genetically modified food’s, or GMOs, goal is to feed the world's malnourished and undernourished population. Exploring the positive side to GMOs paints a wondrous picture for our planet’s future, although careful steps must be taken to ensure that destruction of our ecosystems do not occur. When GMOs were first introduced into the consumer market they claimed that they would help eliminate the world’s food crisis by providing plants that produced more and were resistant to elemental impacts like droughts and bacterial contaminants, however, production isn’t the only cause for the world’s food crisis. Which is a cause for concern because the population on the earth is growing and our land and ways of agriculture will not be enough to feed everyone sufficiently. No simple solutions can be found or applied when there are so many lives involved. Those who are hungry and those who are over fed, alike, have to consider the consequences of Genetically Modified Organisms. Food should not be treated like a commodity it is a human necessity on the most basic of levels. When egos, hidden agendas, and personal gains are folded into people's food sources no one wins. As in many things of life, there is no true right way or wrong way to handle either of the arguments and so many factors are involved that a ‘simple’ solution is simply not an option.
Genetically modified foods are developed by combining genes from two different organisms which alters it's DNA and do not occur naturally. Biotechnology is relatively new so like most people, I turned to research to argue this issue with facts. In my opinion, genetically modifying foods have more harmful effects than they do beneficial. I am against their use because it creates safety risks for our health and animals, it can damage the environment and we have to deal with the total costs.
The term GM foods or GMO (genetically-modified organisms) is most commonly used to refer to crop plants created for human or animal consumption using the latest molecular biology techniques (Whitman, 2000). These plants have been modified in the laboratory to offer desired traits such as increased resistance to herbicides or improved nutritional content. Also, genetic engineering techniques have been applied to create plants with the exact desired trait very rapidly and accurately. For example, this is done by the geneticist isolating the gene responsible for drought tolerance and inserts it into another plant. The new genetically-modified plant will now have gained drought tolerance as well.

As GMOs continue to affect human life and the environment, it should be mandatory for products to be labeled if they are genetically modified, thus giving consumers the right to make their own decision. The importance of this issue is that these GMO’s can actually have a negative effect in our society in general. It could mutate in a negative way and cause cancer or other diseases. Genetically modified food should be strictly controlled due to its various detrimental effects on the environment, human health, and potentially insect/animal effects.
Even though genetically modified organisms were created to grow more food there are negative aspects to these types of crops that are harmful to humans and animals. Therefore GMO’s should be studied more because there are positive impacts but harmful side effects.
