The global temperature of the earth has risen about 1.8° since 1884, and the amount of land ice is dropping by about 286 gigatonnes per year; these changes to our home planet are the result of our human selfishness and short sightedness. To save our planet, we need to act on a global scale and give up our luxuries for the sake of the whole world. Clearly, the most important thing in life is to take positive action instead of being passive. One example of chipping in for the greater good for the world instead of yourself is siding with nature instead of focusing only on human advancement without a care for Mother Earth, which is the theme of Globus Hystericus by The Agonist. First of all, in Stanza 5, L1 and L2, the greed of humankind is exposed …show more content…
“We won’t outlive our generation, but our impact surely will.” These words open the eyes of the listener to the importance of what we do in our life, elucidating that we need to act and do something in order for what remains after our demise to be upstanding; helping reveal this truth and motivate the listener to make the largest possible positive impacts to live on after death. Moreover, in Stanza 3 Lines 5 - 6, it’s said even after its demolition, an exponential impact is left behind; these words challenge us to leave behind the best we can, because our impact echoes and multiplies after our demise. Due to the effect we leave behind being so strong, we must strive our hardest to be our best selves while we still exist, making it extremely imperative to intercede positively while we still can. On the other hand, the composition itself is driving, with blast beats and a blazingly fast tempo that stimulates the listener’s mind. A Major, the song’s key, is associated with hopefulness, creating an aura of a reckless hopefulness and energy; these effects combined created a compelling tone, making the listener want to move and take action. Additionally, the vocalist screams a majority of the lyrics; screaming is usually used as a way to incite movement, and this correlation propels listeners into
...from the dullness of schoolwork to many possibilities. The next lines poke fun at the value of education and celebrate their street learning. ?Lurk late,? ?Strike straight,? ?Sing sin,? and ?Thin gin,? contradict any possibility for mental growth. Symbolism comes in the picture in the next line, ?We Jazz June,? which has many meanings. The word ?Jazz? signifies sexual intercourse. Then the word ?June? becomes a female. The tone of the poem dramatically changes when the reader learns the dropouts die soon. The group end in the last line, ?Die soon,? the final consequence of trying to be cool. Seemingly having fun in the beginning being cool, they are now completely powerless because they are dead. The poem really gives an obvious picture of what young African-American males are driven to do under the impression of trying to be cool. Since their minds are headed straight to corruption, they have no clue because they are having so much fun being cool. Leaving school, staying out late, singing sin, drinking alcohol, and having sex apparently are the only things that are important to them. With this mentality, more and more inner city males while continue hastening toward their death.
One of the songs on this album, "Gravedigger" might stand out to one who has listened to the band before. Instead of displaying a hippie, live life to its fullest theme, the idea in this song is of life leading to death. The narrator, Dave, is introducing us in first person to four different people who are all in turn brought together by a gravedigger. Dave speaks to the gravedigger, although never answered, in the song by asking, " Will...
The progression of the sun is used as a metaphor in the comparison of time’s effect on life, decay, and death, in order to show that through procrastination and neglect to live in the moment, the “sooner that his race be run, and nearer he’s to setting” (Herrick). Once again, the necessity for believing and participating in the concept of carpe diem perpetuates itself through the model of young love. Comparing this idea with the overarching theme of time’s inevitable passage, the speaker declares in the final stanza that “having lost but once your prime, you may forever tarry” (Herrick). With a focus on the physical, the entire process of decay here becomes a much more tangible subject to concentrate on, instead of a purely emotional outlook on
In essence, this song carries various sociological concepts. It concentrates on the main idea about the social construction of reality and talking about how reality is changing. The song questions the actions and mentally of individuals violating the norms and values of society. The band takes into consideration various factors of why it is happening including the media and religion. As a result they talk about such influences taking control building and developing a sense of self. This is a great song about present day problems and how society changes with them.
In this song The Fray takes great effort to convey the point of talking with the youth of today about making the correct decisions that will have a large affect upon one's life. Although the song in no way forces the narrators thoughts and ideas upon the youth they still firmly instill the knowledge of his choices impact on his future. Ideally this would be a guideline, an alarm of hope, a script on how to one day "save a life."
Overall, dwell on this process of changing throughout the poem, it can be understood that the poet is demonstrating a particular attitude towards life. Everyone declines and dies eventually, but it would be better to embrace an optimistic, opened mind than a pessimistic, giving-up attitude; face the approach of death unflinchingly, calmly.
This is an act based on maximizing one’s own utility, even if it is merely in his own mind. To those for whom morality and helping the greater good is important, altruistic acts exist even it is within the category of selfish acts. Thus, Hobbes’ theory concerning actions based solely on self-serving motivations is not truly complete.
Leading to our planets slow demise, global climate change is an important issue that has sparked fascinating research on its causes, as well as its future effects. There has been significant change in weather patterns and climate over the past century. Sea levels are rising, ice caps are shrinking, and extreme unexpected disasters are occurring all over the world at an alarming rate. This means devastating outcomes for the future of planet earth, along with all of earth’s inhabitants. Earth is home to billions of people, as well as countless species. The despondent truth is that humanity is to blame for global climate change.
For instance, it was an extremely sunny day in Ghana, West Africa, and I had gone out to the well to fetch water. It was while carrying the bucket of water on my way back that I noticed my neighbor’s children fighting over the insufficient amount of food that they had to share. My family and I were not rich but from what I saw, I knew that we were better off than other people I knew. I carried the bucket of water inside the house and came back outside to call the two youngest children that were fighting over the last grain of food. I shared my food my food with them and though it was not sufficient for all, feeding the younger ones alone was better than not helping any one of them at all. There was only little that I could possibly do but by sharing, I had helped them in a great way, even if it was just for the time being.
Background and Audience Relevance: There are always conversations about our planet. We see our earths glaciers melting, weather temperature rising, and pollution affecting our resources. But for some reasons we tend to look away. We should be more aware of this potential event and I’m here to inform everyone about what actually is global warming and the effects of it.
Many climate scientists, researchers, and environmentalists are expressing concerns about shifts in the overall climate of the earth. It is believed that a dramatically dangerous warming is taking place in the overall global climate, a problem that is referred to as "global warming”. Global warming is the observed century-scale rise in the average temperature of Earth’s climate system. This temperature rise is due to the damaging effects of deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels. It is our responsibility to preserve our planet and our way of living but in order to do that we need to act now. If we continue to destroy the planet with no regard as to how serious this matter is there could be several negative effects to us as human being and other living thing on Earth. This is why global warming is truly a global issue and needs to be tackled collectively. We must to act now in order to reduce the dangerous levels of carbon dioxide emissions and we must to work together.
The earth at this time, is at a state of downfall in which the only people to blame is us. Global disasters and environmental issues are a huge sign of the earth’s deterioration. For instant, global warming, deforestation, and pollution are the planet’s worse enemies, therefore human beings are reckless in their decision-making to encounter this matter. The real problem is ignorance and lack of acceptance of this horrifying issue. What other severe problem that we can face nowadays that putts our future children’s lives in jeopardy? We need to take action and responsibility to save our planet.
Research has shown that our modern lifestyles affect faraway places like Antarctica, whose mysteries have barely been ascertained. Instead of depending on cars and scooters that burn fossil fuels, we can take a healthy walk, ride a bicycle, or use public transportation. We can be more conscientious about using power, since power plants contribute heavily to pollution and global warming, by choosing efficient fluorescent light bulbs, and turning lights off when they aren’t in use. Factories are another source of global warming, so we need to recycle and reuse instead of always buying new goods. We can urge others, especially our politicians, to be globally responsible, and to support continual research that helps us learn how to protect our world.
As human beings, we need to respect the environment in which we live. This is important to greater our future and that of others to follow. Very few people realize that their daily behaviors have a direct impact on the environment, the atmosphere in particular. By emitting harmful gasses into the air on a daily basis is one of the main reasons of such climate changes. People notice such changes and yet don't do anything to help the situation. Wee don't realize the risks that such changes in temperature pose. Rather than trying to conserve gas or taking cold showers, we still go on through our daily activities reluctant to change that will in time benefit the earth. By conserving gas and other harmful emissions like oil and electricity we are lessening the risks of global warming. By recognizing the potential risks, it will become easier to find practical solutions.
One of the most substantial problems in the world today is global warming. This gradual warming of the earth is in occurrence at an extremely slow rate but it is happening. Many scientists believe that as human’s work and release greenhouse gases into the earth’s atmosphere, it can become dangerous for the long lasting life of humans and our environment. “Unless we take immediate action, the impacts of global warming will continue to intensify, grow ever more costly and damaging, and increasingly affect the entire planet - including you, your community, and your family” (“Global Warming Impacts”). Everyone should be knowledgeable about global warming and the dangers that it brings to our planet. This essay will examine
