Chandler N It is an honor to be partnering with you the American people as we tackle the problems facing our great nation. As I begin to develop my policies and set goals for my presidency I want to include you the people who elected me on my thoughts about an issue that I will be addressing first and foremost: energy. We need to reduce our emissions of greenhouse gases to avoid the consequences of climate change. Our efforts up to this point have not been enough to counteract the ever growing problem of global warming. As we in the United States cut back on carbon dioxide emissions, rates soar higher in China and India. Therefore, I feel it absolutely necessary to develop a global policy that begins to limit emissions as we strive to reach …show more content…
Coal while cheap and abundant is a large producer of carbon dioxide and its soaring use all over the globe is leading towards a catastrophic outcome. In fact, the combustion of coal is responsible for more than 70% of CO2 emissions, dwarfing those from any other fuel used for generating electricity. However, coal is too low-cost, too plentiful and too available from reliable sources to be replaced. This can change and coal can be clean, if the carbon dioxide is captured. Research done by IPCC has provided several locations for the storage of this carbon dioxide and other countries such as Norway and Algeria have used this sequestration process. My plan involves a highly efficient Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) megawatt power plant. CCS in simple terms is burning coal but removing the pollutants such as ash and soot, but also pumping out the carbon dioxide into a storage container. This plant conception was underway once before, but due to costs the plans were scrapped. However, after the success of the CCS plants in China and the increasing need to decrease the CO2 levels, I feel the time to build this plant is now. CCS is vital because it allows the world to keep using its most abundant fuel source while reducing the carbon dioxide and soot emitted. The United States can learn from China and encourage …show more content…
However, I also have plans to cut spending on current projects that I feel are not producing results. One such area is the focus on corn ethanol which only reduces greenhouse gases by 13%. The International Institute for Sustainable Development estimates that the CO2 and climate benefits from replacing petroleum fuels with biofuels like ethanol are basically zero. They claim that it would be almost 100 times more effective, and much less costly, to significantly reduce vehicle emissions through more stringent standards, and to increase the standards on all cars and light trucks to over 40 miles per gallon as was done in Japan just a few years ago. Therefore I plan to put these stricter policies in place to encourage fuel efficient automobiles with less
Fossil fuels, such as coal and oil, are Carbon rich compounds, the combustion of which produces Carbon Dioxide, a pollutant and a greenhouse gas. A large amount of energy is released during this process, which is why the pollutants off products are tolerated. This process occurs constantly throughout the world, in power stations, vehicles and cooking ovens, leading to an immense volume of CO2 being released every second, 50% of which is absorbed by oceans (Oce...
Pollution is affecting many individuals and life, as we know it. We need to do something about how it’s affecting our world. That’s why I urge the issue that more people should realize that pollution is an issue that needs to be prevented because of its negative consequences. Which are health affects, the total destruction of environments, and the death of animals and plants. More awareness must be brought up amongst the people and they must realize the long-term benefits it has for the world.
"If we want to address global warming, along with the other environmental problems associated with our continued rush to burn our precious fossil fuels as quickly as possible, we must learn to use our resources more wisely, kick our addiction, and quickly start turning to sources of energy that have fewer negative impacts."
The purpose of this paper is to review the Department of Energy's (DOE) programs and recommend future directions for US policy to address President Obama's desire to save our planet from climate change and reduce reliance on oil (Roberts, Lassiter, & Nanda, 2010, p 4). The context of this review is following the 2008 election of President Obama and the enactment of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) in February 2009. This paper will evaluate the effectiveness of the measures implemented by the Act and compare their effectiveness with an alternative strategy of implementing a carbon tax, then make a recommendation on which strategy would have achieved the President's aims in view of the political, economic and environmental situation that he faced.
Is the process of Carbon negative the most viable method of reducing carbon emissions in the atmosphere?
“I have had a terrible, horrible day converting oxygen into carbon dioxide, now I need a moment to just breathe” (Pinterest). People have been dealing with the argument on climate change for approximately 200 years. Scientists have studied the facts, recognized the evidence, and determined that global warming is the most important problem the world is facing today. American sociologist Eric Klinenberg wrote, “In recent years the cumulative toll of the greenhouse gasses that they have emitted has profoundly destabilized the climate, and with it, the social environment” (Klinenberg, xx). The idea of climate change hurting the social environment connects James F. Klumpp’s idea of social argument, since both refer to the setting where people live.
Former Vice President, Al Gore’s speech, The Climate Emergency, was a highly accurate prediction of the circumstances our planet would be under in coming years. The facts relevant as of 2004 are still true in the year 2015. While many companies and individuals have learned to contribute to helping our plant go greener, the dangers of the climate change are still a pressing issue supported by scientific evidence. With occurrences such as extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and ice cap disappearances, global warming is physically being show on our planet and in order to prevent a complete reversed climate on our hemispheres, the population of Earth as a whole must ban together to reduce our carbon footprint.
PURPOSE: To persuade my audience that we must take action now to control air pollution
There are a lot of people around the world who are deprived of the most important essentials to survival and development.
Burning and mining coal for fuel is harmful to the environment but because how cheap and easy it is to find many people are unwilling to give it up as a fuel source. One of the problems with coal is that they are limited and are non-renewable so once it has been used we won’t be able to use it again.
safe would you feel knowing that natural disasters such as this may not only increase in

Global warming has become on of the most controversial issues in the media today. While most of the Western world countries have generally accepted the premise that man's chemical emissions in the atmosphere can and are affected by the world’s climate patterns, in the United States, the issue has become so politicized with many republicans challenging the science behind the theory. Global warming is a greenhouse effect whereby gases are trapped on the earth’s surface causing it to heat up (Maslin 14). It is based on the worldwide temperature records that have been maintained by human beings through their activities since the 1880,s. In addition, global warming is not only caused by human activities only but also through climate changes in solar radiance. The problem is that, humans continue to contribute to the global warming phenomenon. All citizens should work in reducing human activities that cause global warming and also support the development of nuclear power. Scientists deem that, global warming is mainly caused by human activities which accelerate the natural process by creating greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Human activities have become a great contribution to the greenhouse effect and this means that climate changes are inevitable. They further argue that, if these activities continue and are not reduced, it will lead to more trapping of energy radiated from the earth and this will likely lead to extreme weather and global warming. Global warming should be at reduced levels or else, it will be catastrophic.
I believe that we have several responsibilities towards future generations, including sustainable energy sources, managed resources, conservation, and to impart knowledge of environmental sustainability in a widespread way. I believe that must fulfill these obligations for the continuation of the human species survival in the future.
Global Warming One of the most substantial problems in the world today is global warming. This gradual warming of the earth is in occurrence at an extremely slow rate but it is happening. Many scientists believe that as human’s work and release greenhouse gases into the earth’s atmosphere, it can become dangerous for the long lasting life of humans and our environment. “Unless we take immediate action, the impacts of global warming will continue to intensify, grow ever more costly and damaging, and increasingly affect the entire planet - including you, your community, and your family” (“Global Warming Impacts”).
