Global warming is a major concern among the study of biology. Global warming will lead to drastic changes to Earth. There are so many problems that global warming affects, but the one thing that may be overlooked at times is how global warming will affect local farms leading to a decrease in food supply. New Jersey farms will become greatly affected by global warming causing decrease in food supply in the Mid-Atlantic. At the rate the Earth’s temperature is changing, many people locally will experience differences in the amount of food that is available. To understand how global warming effects water and food supply, one must know what is global warming. Global warming is the gradual rise in temperatures due to carbon dioxide and air pollution …show more content…

Church, who is an ecologist, for his professional opinion and knowledge about global warming. In my interview, I started by asking what affects of global warming has he seen or read about during his study of the subject that effect food supply locally in the Mid-Atlantic. He responded by saying “The effects of global warming are not just isolated in one area. The entire Earth is feeling the effect of global warming. The Earth’s climate change in the Northwest will affect the Mid-Atlantic because we are not isolated from the rest of the world. With the level of snow in the Northwest becoming limited due to El Nino years, it causes the Mid-Atlantic to have La Nina years which causes the elevated sea levels and storms.” I than asked to why should people that are not scientist should care about global warming. He responded by saying “Global warming is slowly changing the world’s climate. Even if the extreme effects are not necessarily changing are lifestyles right now, it will affect humans eventually. Global warming direct effects on other populations of species will lead to more and more species being affected.” He said that according to studies he has seen, he believes agriculture will be extremely changed in some …show more content…

According to the article “Food” from the Union of Concerned Scientist, “shifting seasonal rainfall patterns and more severe precipitation events—and related flooding—may delay planting and harvesting” (“Food”). Much of agriculture depends on consistent patterns of sunlight and rainfall. However due to global warming, inconsistent patterns of rain from periods of droughts to flooding can occur. This will make it extremely difficult to grow plants. If farmers cannot grow plants, there will be a shortage in fruits and vegetables available. This will also affect the wallet, because due to shortage of plants growing, prices will be raised so farmers and grocery stores can still make a profit. Inconsistent rain patterns will greatly affect local
