The main purpose of this text is to explain that the global warming trends that we are hearing so much about these days actually are “part of a natural trend with a cycle that results in elevated climactic temperatures every 1,500 years” (Avery). He provides a historical record through actual ancient record keeping methods, geology, and biology. The wine grapes were the most convincing part of the historical evidence for me. “People grow wine whenever and wherever they can. The Romans wrote of wine grapes and olive trees gradually being cultivated farther north into Italy” (Avery). When looking at this evidence, it makes sense that we can track the local climate change by where we can grow the crops that we are used to growing. Changes in temperature and rainfall will all have an impact on how the crops will grow and adaptations have to be made to accommodate those changes. The geologic evidence was fascinating as well. The 1,500 year cycle is evident when we look at a variety of samples from many different sources. “The oxygen isotopes in the ice layers revealed the air ...
He argued how history has been affected by short-term climate change. The ice age period was a time of extremely changeable climate. He also argued how climate did not cause history, but how climate impacted the lives of humans, animals, plants, and the world itself. Climate played a major role of history because it affected the agriculture. When the agriculture is affected the people of the land must adapt to the climate changes and adjust their way of life in order to survive with these drastic changes.
Lindzen begins his piece by asserting that there isn't, and never will be, static, unchanging climates on planets with fluid envelopes. Throughout this article, he ponders why there has been an increase in alarm over climate change in the past few years. At the beginning of the article, he states that the increase in alarm is because the public has become scientifically illiterate, which, in turn, makes them more susceptible to being taken advantage of by people of higher status. He continues on by saying that the panic over climate change is falsely placed and that the climate is and has constantly been changing over time. He gives supportive examples of this through climate changing events that have occurred throughout the centuries. Also, according to Lindzen, findings on climate change are problematic because they are based on computer models. He claims that the data conflicts with the models, and that scientists “correct” the data to agree with the models, which points to some level of corruption in climate science. Although Lindzen does give reasons that he believes climate change may be over exaggerated, he keeps going back to another reason. Throughout the article, he ind...
Scientists sometimes use erratics to help determine ancient glacier movement.” (NSIDC, 2014). To understand the unique aspects of a gorge created in just a few days, it is necessary to look back to the events that occurred 100,000 years ago. Described by James Lovelock in his book, The Ages of Gaia: A Biography of Our Living Earth, Milankovitch Cycles define the regular consistency of the Earth's glacial and interglacial periods.... ...

The names of the two articles written by Willard Libby are “Atmospheric helium three and radiocarbon from cosmic radiation” and “Age determinations by radiocarbon content: checks with samples of known age”.
In 1991, a diver by the name of Henri Cosquer from Cassis discovered the cave that is now named for him. His discovery was so extraordinary and unexpected that some scientists believed it to be a deception or very probably a farce. But soon after his discovery scientists using modern procedures performed datings that confirmed Cosquer’s discovery. Henri Cosquer had discovered and important archeological site!
I read it and thought this author must be on to something, but what do I know. I am not a scientist so I decided to learn more about global change. I travel in the winter months with my husband, and I have always wondered why the ocean water is warmer in some locations and colder at others. I also grew up on a farm and heard my dad always talking about the weather. Now, I currently farm myself and understand a little bit more about the weather and how it effects our daily lives.
The Earth's climate has changed significantly throughout history. In the last 700,000 years there have been seven cycles of glacial advance and retreat. With the abrupt end of the last ice age approximately 7,000 years ago the beginning of the modern climate era was born. In the last century the global sea level has risen 17cm. All three major global surface temperature reconstructions show that Earth has warmed since 1880. Most of this warming has occurred since the 1970s, with the 20 warmest years, having occurred since 1981 and with all 10 of the warmest years occurring in the past 12 years. There is no denying global warming. Once considered a conspiracy theory by the world’s leading governments, industries and populations; global warming
By observing the climate system it has become very strong and clear that changes in the climate are taking place, and our climate system is getting warmer as time goes by. Changes in the climate from the last 60 years have never been experienced by the population.
Milankovic’s theories were initially ignored. Then in the 1970’s, scientists showed a renewed interest, and now the Milankovitch Cycles are widely accepted as contributing to the cycles of the ice ages although they continue to be critiqued and revised.
Our world is always changing, so is our climate. Some changes are apparent, others not so much. Climate change is an important issue of concern in the twenty-first century. Environment, if it changes at all, evolves so slowly that the difference cannot be seen in a human lifetime (Wearth, 2014). Mostly all scientists predicted that it would take thousands of years for the planet to warm up due to emissions of carbon dioxide from fossil fuels called greenhouse gases. But in the past 200 years, things began to change. The rate and the amount of warming that is happening on this planet are unprecedented. Wearth says, “People did not grasp the prodigious fact that both population and industrialization were exploding in a pattern of exponential
One of the most key examples of understanding human culture through archaeology is the topic of climate and the environment. As seen through history, there is an intricate relationship between the environment and life on earth. Through extensive research, archaeologists have the ability to take note of minor cultural changes that can be attributed to the environment during a particular time period. These changes include, shifts in methods of food collection, changes in the artwor...
While critical of global warming alarmism, this documentary does not doubt that the earth is warming. Instead, they claim that scientific evidence demonstrates that such warming is but a natural variation in earth’s climatic history, similar to the Medieval Warm Period of the Little Ice Age. The documentary uses several lines of evidence to back up this claim, including ice core data that they claim when rightly interpreted shows carbon dioxide as having a lag time when earth’s climate has warmed in the recent and distant past, making it doubtful that it could be responsible for the increase in temperature that has been observed recently. The timing of the recent warming, which was most pronounced in the late Nineteenth Century through World War II, stopped and reversed to a cooling trend in the mid-Twentieth Century, and then rapidly warmed again in the past three decades, is dissected. Since this warming began before the advent of major human sources of greenhouse gas emissions and the period of most dramatic industrial...
Global Warming is a condition caused by greenhouse gases and human activities. The increased concentration of greenhouse gases due to activities such as deforestation and fossil fuel burning is causing the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans to warm up. As a result of this, global warming has some serious effects in the shape of extreme weather, species extinctions, and rising sea levels. These effects can contribute to the changes that are taking place all over the world, most of which are dangerous enough to pose a threat to the survival of life on Earth in the future.
Climate is usually defined as the "average weather" in a place. It includes patterns of temperature, precipitation (rain or snow), humidity, wind and seasons. Climate patterns play a fundamental role in shaping natural ecosystems, and the human economies and cultures that depend on them. But the climate we’ve come to expect is not what it used to be because the past is no longer a reliable predictor of the future. Our climate is rapidly changing with disruptive impacts, and that change is progressing faster than any seen in the last 2,000 years (ecy.wa.gov, 2017). Though the scientific evidence seems overwhelming in favor of climate change, there are those, for various reasons, who believe that climate change is a trick. This is disappointing, as the future of our planet is at stake, and the last thing we should do in this critical time is arguing whether or not our world is being destroyed. In order to enlighten those who believe climate change is not currently happening, I will present evidence that will show that climate change is real due to sea levels rising, frequent hurricanes and food and resource depletion. In turn, I will also answer the opposition.
