Finding a course to fulfill my global pathway requirement was relatively simple for me to do because I had a clear purpose of what I want to do. I chose to take Mandarin classes to fulfill my global pathway requirement because I live in Manhattan and it will be very convenient for me to be able to speak an intermediate level of Mandarin in the city that never sleeps. As a result, I will have less of a hard time when I travel to Chinatown in the future. Furthermore, although I am a citizen of the United States, it is an irrevocable fact that I am still Chinese. I have spent most of my lifetime in the United States and my skill of speaking Mandarin has gradually been fading as time keeps passing. It was the worst unforgettable memories of my life in this country as being a victim of school bullies because I was the easiest target being the only Chinese student at that school who couldn't speak English. I had no help from school facilities, I didn't tell my parents about what was happening in school because they only need to know the positive things. I took the negative burdens, like always, upon myself. Slowly, I began to realize that I would never be able to move forward if I didn't overcome my fear. For that reason, I got up on my feet and began facing the school bullies for the first time. In return, I won my battle. As a result of that, I gained my reputation among the temporary students, no one picked on me since then, my life turned colorful, and I got tremendous confidence when I spoke English. That was when my life carried me into the next chapter. I got friends, high self-esteem, and other positive things. Nevertheless, it is very helpful if a student understands this concept because nothing would bring them down if they dare to face their fear and get up from where they were fallen last
