Prior to taking this course, my perspective on globalization was limited since I had little knowledge and experience with this topic. I failed to give much thought to the educational practices or policies that are implemented across the globe. Nonetheless, I discovered that there are various factors to consider when it comes to the process that these countries have taken to successfully integrate technology into their K-12 education system. Before even taking this course, I will admit that I have thought about how great it would be to connect with educators or health professionals across the globe, but I never thought I could make it happen. It has been the fault of the school district, schools and teachers as to why the students have a lack of global perspective. In talking to my students, I found that they don’t often consider competing academically with another country and how the use of technology impacts their ability to compete. Other than a social studies course, we rarely mention what takes place in countries other than our own and it is even more rare to talk about how these countries are using technology or their advancement in education. Not taking advantage of this platform with our students and colleagues eventually puts us all at a disadvantage, because we limit our research for competing to neighboring schools and counties before we even look from a national …show more content…
Looking back, I now realize that I was given the opportunity to achieve what I was hoping my students would with the global network assignment I created. Through the interview process, I took the information that I collected and began to compare it with my own thoughts and feelings on education and technology use in my own country. I compared myself and the educational system to the information that I obtained during the interview process. It is safe to say that the current education system in the United States does not help create a good workforce, it does not help students meet their goals and it does not do a good job in creating good citizens. The current education system is not able to do this because not everyone is about to get a higher education, it is not practical, and a college education and grades are not good factors/indicators in determining a person’s success. Yes, the education system is better here than in other areas, but there are a few things that need to be worked on.

Nowadays, it can be observed the apogee of Globalization. Certainly, almost all the countries in the world have been affected, and Chile is not the exception. Globalization has become a significant phenomenon in the world that has contributed not only in the worldwide economies, but also in social, political, and education areas, among others. In fact, in the last area mentioned, Globalization has had an important role over the past decades. Unquestionably, Chile has been influenced in a positive way by Globalization. Constant change and a flat, global competitive market landscape were described by Thomas Friedman, author of The World is Flat, as triple convergence and was a result of the ten flatteners. Friedman also stated that in “Globalization 1.0, countries had to think globally. In Globalization 2.0, companies had to think globally to thrive, or at least survive. In Globalization 3.0, individuals have to think globally to thrive, or at least survive.” (Friedman, 2007) The concept of needing individuals to think globally and thrive in the market led Friedman to travel and report on various educational cultures across the world. Friedman was determined to find “the right stuff” to make the youth in future generations competitive globally.
In a recent study, the National Geographic Society and the Asia Society shed light on a growing concern that showed students from the United States lacked understanding and knowledge of different people, places, and cultures around the world. This growing concern demanded higher-quality education as well as for teachers to understand the value and necessity of developing lessons based on global education. Since the 1980s, the United States government has tried repeatedly to introduce and incorporate multiculturalism and global education into the system but was met with hostility and protests by many of its citizens. Many protestors believed that global education introduces anti-Americanism, and that multiculturalism introduces and encourages "separatism and disunity". Therefore, it is important and necessary to inform and introduce the general public to the benefits of global education, or cultural education in general to our youth. This will help rise a more knowledgeable generation that is better equipped to deal, communicate, understand, and help the rest of the world.

Do you ever think about how much technology has changed the way we work, learn, play, and even think? Technology is a major beneficiary to society; especially in the classroom where we get the opportunity to learn and grow. In recent years, schools have begun implementing tablets and other devices in the classroom to better student’s education. The use of technology in the classroom provides more of a personalized learning experience and gives students a widespread availability to engage in learning. Technology is necessary in today’s modern globe, it is basically “the pen and paper of our time and the lens through which we experience much of our world” (Warlick, 2013). Technology is not just considered the “internet”, it is so much greater than that. Overall, it enhances the quality of education and engages students deeper than ever before. With all the significant gains, why would people argue that technology hinders students more than it helps? Critics may try to repute the use of technology in the classroom but I believe what really matters “is the way we use it, the context that we use it in, and the learners who we use it for” (Chong, 2012).
The world grows smaller and smaller as time goes on; maybe not literally, but definitely through some points of view. With everything and everyone being more connected than ever now thanks to advances in communicational technology and with the merging of cultures from all over the world, a suitable form of education needs to become the standard to accommodate such a world. Global education teaches students about the world’s different cultures, traditions, religions, languages and other important global factors contributing to our modern world. One problem when it comes to replacing traditional methods of education with technology based learning would be that transferring every single school to a technology based system would take a considerable amount of time, energy and training. Especially in todays economy, it does not seem realistic to supply every student in the United States with a laptop or tablet; also training every teacher how to utilize the technology would take a large amount of effort. However, a gradual move toward technology based learning methods is much more realistic, and has already begun. There are many countries that do not have the same access to the internet as we do in the United States. This can make it difficult for the families from those countries to come to such an advanced country to live in. Even when ordering food, places use apps on phones; this makes is hard for others to adapt to such living styles. It can be hard for parents to work in the United States because most of our jobs require knowledge of technology and knowledge of use of internet. This can further be problematic for the businesses and their information, if improperly used can misuse company technology. The students coming to American schools can be difficult because of the difference in classroom settings. We have implemented more technology in our schools in order to help maintain the child’s attention. Not all children can learn using technology, especially if they are unfamiliar with its’ tools.
