1.) Why is good composition important in film? The composition of the film helps to keep the viewer interested. It helps to make the viewer feel as if they are part of the film. When filming, it is important to have different angles and shots to create depth and create balance. Composition is the main building-block which keeps a film together and gives it a sense of unity. Without any change in the composition throughout a film the film would become boring and hard to watch. 2.) The buildings seemed to move off into the distance forever and it draws your eye into the shot. This is important because it makes you feel as if you are inside the shot looking down upon the city. 3.) In a film without words, how are messages successfully conveyed? Did Baraka convey a successful message? What was it? Since the film contains no words it is important for the images to convey the message and tell the story. The images set the tone for the area that is depicted in each scene and help to make you feel as if you are inside the film. Along with this Baraka uses many mystifying back-tracks to add feeling to the images that are depicted on screen. There are so many shots that are full and feel as if you are part of the shot. The camera would only move when it was needed to get a point across. The camera would sometimes stay still while the people or objects moved through the shot, this would create a sense of movement without the camera moving itself. The film makes used many wide shots that built into closer shots. Along with this they would us many pan-to shots and zoom in on a single object or person.
