Humans crave for success, relaxation, enjoyment, and unforgettable memories. Time is essential for humans in order to have all three. One way to be successful is to study hard in school. Another important way is to engage in activities and gain interests. In order to have the time to do that is to have a break or a vacation to sharpen those skills. It is also a great time to be free from stress and be less weary from school works. Besides school years, childhood memories are formed during summer time. In conclusion, America should not eliminate summer vacation. With a vacation, people can live a fulfilling and enjoyable life. Students find most of their interests during summer break because they would have the time to try new activities. Unlike during school years, “there are many skills student acquire during the summer at a faster rate” (Studebaker). With more time in their hand, they can polish their interests and become a professional. School usually does not have many activities so, summer break is the opportunity to try them out. As Juliet Lapidos stated, “too much education, [physicians] argued, could impair a child’s health” because of their body and mind focused too much on school. Students have no choice but to study for school every year until high school or university if they want to have a future. It is not mentally good for them if they gain too much stress in trying to store in all the information they learned from school. Also, “Summer is a time to play sports, to do art, to play games, to socialize with friends, to explore”; that’s what people were raised to do in America and other nations (Studebaker). When people think about Summer, most will picture themselves enjoying their time at a beach. Summer vacation is needed to regain the energy and live a full life with
Another significant reason is summer vacation needs to be longer. The primary reason for this is children need time to wind down and relax before they have to go back to school. For instance, during the summer children relax and prepare for school, if they...

The summertime is when kids play outside and do whatever they want. Some kids even go to day care or their friends’ house to do something different, “Many children go to summer camps where they learn many of important skills not covered in school” (Cooper 3). Doing work in the summer that does not interest them will make kids despise summer. It also will not let the kids do want they want to do in peace, because they will worry about the huge assignment they still have to finish, “…the backbreaking obligation to read Charles Dickens blighted June, ravaged July obliterated August” (Queenan,1). Some might argue that the long summer will make the children forget what they learned, but if the students cannot relearn what they already knew in a month or less, that means that they are not being taught correctly. In general, summer reading makes a students' summer into more school time, which is not helpful to them.
After reading both, “Nashville Skyline: Searching for the heart of the country,” by Chet Flippo, and, “Music is worthless,” by Steve Lawson. It is clear that although they bear some minor differences, the similarities between both articles are pronounced. For example, in Music is worthless, Steve Lawson presents the idea that the financial value of music is entirely based on the listener’s sense of gratitude for that certain type of music. In comparison, in searching for the heart of country Flippo says, “It is ultimately in the listeners’ hands. It’s the fans, the true believers, who will choose their music. Each person’s country is in the heart.”
During Summer break children can enjoy more unstructured time and families can go on vacations. Summer seems to be a large block of time that parents and kids can use to take a breather...But, there is a shadow that often hovers over this lengthy break - a shadow commonly called the summer slide.
For years, parents and educators have debated the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional school calendar, which has long summer vacations for all students. The longer you are away from school, the more you lose what you learned in the previous year. Studies have shown that children who know English as a second language benefit the most from year-round education because during the long summer break, they may not hear English for several months. Long summer breaks is a problem for traditional schools and the solution is to substitute traditional schools for year-round schools.
Although, year round school wouldn’t be just a bad thing. For example, shorter summer breaks may decrease the amount of learning students lose. It can also mean that students are less likely to have summer learning loss. Also, students test scores lower after summer break. Therefore, some people get free or reduced meals but in the summer they wouldn’t get that. Shorter breaks would cause a hard time to find childcare and to pay childcare.
Us kids go through a lot during summer we focus on many things like work, finding extra curricular activities to do during the summer and trying to help our parents around the house. In her essay “School’s Out for Summer”, she states how if some parents can’t schedule these activities they set their children in front of a T.V. which shows that us kids don’t like to go outside during the summer when school’s out. Her purpose for writing this was to show us how our parents have to deal with us the whole summer when school’s out and we don’t want to do anything because we want to sit in the house and do nothing all summer long which can lead us to forget everything we wanted to do over the summer when we go back to school. During her essay she gives some details on world hunger in many small cities that rarely don’t have a school kids go to learn.
Every day, more and more attempts of banning books and taking away the rights of our First Amendment get violated. The challenging of a book is the attempt to remove or restrict materials, and the banning is the removal of these materials. I believe that books should not be banned for these reasons.
The summer vacation students on a traditional schedule receive could be very beneficial since summer gives time for the students to attend camps or other activities that would allow them to learn. The camp may not be like the learning in school, but students would be able to get a different style of education while having fun. Lynn-nore Chittom and Jeff Klassen, two authors who wrote about year-round vs. traditional schooling say,
Although this may be true and the students may be increasing their intelligence, the absence of a true summer can be a negative for all concerned. Summers off have long been a light at the end of the tunnel for teachers after an intense school year. And students need time to relieve themselves from a constant social setting where bullying and harassment can be hard to get away from while still at school (Pros and Cons of Year Round School). Summers are very beneficial to everyone. Teachers and students get a break, but also parents get more quality time to spend with their
What makes a good person good? According to WikiHow, "We should learn to define our own morals ourselves. One of the simplest ways to do so is to love others, and treat them as you would like to be treated. Try to think of others before yourself. Even doing small things daily will greatly enrich and improve your life, and the lives of others around you." This quote shows us what we need to do in order to be what society thinks as, “good". In order to be a good person, you have to do good and moral things in your society consistently. However people might think that by doing one good thing once in a while will automatically make you a “good person”, but in reality it doesn’t.
You’re coming back from a well needed break from school and you feel invigorated and ready to start. The first few weeks are the hardest to adjust to because your brain hasn’t been used throughout the break. The dilemma with breaks, such as summer break, is that one loses valuable information from past academic courses that are essential to ones progress towards higher education. Imagine a whole year without learning and then coming back to intense rigorous classes at a University. Seniors at high schools over the nation have the opportunity of taking a year off before committing to a college. This is known as a Gap Year; instead of directly enrolling into a University many students feel the need to take a break before starting their education towards their future career. Yes, a Gap Year does sound pleasing and beneficial, but in the long run it can be damaging towards ones future. Students should be aware of the ramification a Gap Year brings, such as, the possibility for enrolling in a graduate school is lower, academic growth is reduced, and social obstacles become present.
We all need a break from school, whether its going from high school into college, or during college. Even though there’s a risk of losing momentum after a long layoff from school, its an opportunity to regroup and explore more before taking that next big step into college, having figured out what you want to do in the future. Not only will you able to rest your brain for what’s upcoming, this allows to be fully confident on a major that interests the student, which allows for an easy transition into their careers, and they can have a chance to explore the world at their free will without be strained.
During the spring semester, there are two more large gaps between breaks, one of which is also over two months long. Although weekends do help, these are often used for studying and homework and do little to ease the students' stress. Many students begin to dislike their classes because of the stress they cause, and as a result, some put less effort into their studies. Breaks allow students some time off from their classes to relax so that they can come back refreshed. Another reason breaks are important is that they give students time to spend with their families.
