It is not very often that someone like Louie Zamperini comes around. He had a rare combination of character traits that made him very special. He was intelligent, strong, and forgiving. There is very few people who can say they know someone like this. He comes from a generation that did what they had to do survive through the war. Martha was a very intelligent young lady, and one of the few women in her time who learned to read and write.

Oftentimes, when thinking about the courageous heroes of the United State’s history, many heroes go forgotten or unappreciated. Dolley Madison may have been the wife of President James Madison, but that is not all she was. She is a great American historical figure in her own right, forging many successes throughout her time in Washington. Dolley was loved by the American people because of her friendliness and her ability relate and interact with the common people. In fact, she was the first woman in American history to have the title of “first lady” bestowed upon her. As a young woman she lost her family, as a young wife she aided the presidency, and as the First Lady she saved a historic piece of art. All of these things make her incredibly brave and have marked her down in history as an unforgettable heroine.

But there is. Her name is Jennifer Bobylev and she is an ordinary teenage girl. She might be overly concerned with her looks but that is normal for teenage girls. She is still in high school and has no major life accomplishments to speak of. However, her character, values, and dedication to family and friends, make her someone deserving of praise.
She was like a flower that grew from concrete. There are many fabulous poets in the world, but not many are as special as Gwendolyn Brooks.
