Ginny is metaphorically sipping life from a sippy cup. If she got to much, reality would wrap it's gnarly fingers around her throat, and she would choke. If she had to little, she would want more, and more, and more, until she was satisfied,'till her thirst was quenched. But, when her thirst had gone so far without acknowledgment for a long time, she got used to the scratching of her youth wanting to be experienced, but all she did was swallow sorrows and gave up her drink to her sister. Seemingly, her sister was already glugging gallons of life, definitely having stories to tell to her grandchildren, and to her year younger sister. She could handle all the mistakes, the sadness, and the moments she wished never happened. When those days happened, …show more content…
Ginny turned her head to the side, watching as the stream of students kiss their parents goodbye, the adults shedding tears like their children were dying, not leaving the house for a whole term, only until the school goes vacant for Christmas break. Ginny feels jealous, because neither their mother, nor father, even made an effort to see them off on their first day of college. They were quick to the excuses, as always. I'm going out of town on business, their father claimed, even though Ginny checked his work schedule, and their next out of town business wasn't marked for another three weeks. Ginny knew what business he is attending to, and it wasn't the one his work assigned him. I have a meeting, their mother conveyed, even though her school hasn't started classes yet. And, the ever prying Ginny, looked, and was once again crushed when she saw her next meeting was in four weeks. They were left. Left to the odd looks they received when stepping off the bus onto campus by themselves, Ginny gripping onto Aubrie's firm, strained hand, and Ginny knew Aubrie was trying her hardest to not grip onto her hand with her usual laid back, easy going grip. And, as soon as their feet touched the pavement, Aubrie snatched her hand away from Ginny, and went trotting off, towards the group of new people, already wanting to forget her built in best friend. Her sister,
Florence is in her headquarters at the hospital, she works at. She is writing a letter to a patient's mother. When all of a sudden, Mary, a fellow nurse, walks in. Mary and Florence talk about how nice it is to work with each other and how happy Mary is here. Mary quotes, “ I’m glad I’m here with you Miss Nightengale. Good Night.” at the end of their discussion. Also, they talk about how both of their families don’t really want them there. They talk for a little and Florence seems very at home and happy. Later, after Mary had left, two gentlemen come to talk to Florence. It is Dr. Goodale and Dr. Hall that have come to speak with her. After talking for a while they both leave and let Florence to her work. In the hospital, Florence seemed like an entire new person, she was much more
In “The Jilting of Granny Weatherall” by Katherine Anne Porter, we learn of an elderly woman who is lying on her death bed watching her life pass before her eyes. We learn, from these flashbacks, how much she has overcome and endured, and how she's put her whole heart into being a mother and wife up until her last breath, when she blew out the candle and rode with her Father in a cart to heaven. It’s this very reason why Porter, in my opinion, chose Granny as the narrator of this story; so we could see the story through her eyes, being able to relate and appreciate it better.
In the story, Melinda has a very strong relationship with her teacher Mr. Freeman. Since the start of the school year, Mr. Freeman made Melinda feel comfortable, and encouraged her to express herself. This reminded me of the relationship I had with my GLE teacher, since the start of the school year. Similar to how Mr. Freeman was always available to listen to Melinda, Mr. Santos my GLE teacher made me feel like he was always available to listen. When Melinda stays with her art teacher during lunch to work on her assignment, it is comparable to how I stayed in Mr. Santos’s office during lunch.
Within the logic of the novel, it is soon established that Ginny understands and feels external reality through her body, and the most important instance of this is her bodily urge to have children. The sight of Rose's daughters, contrasted with her own miscarriages, Ginny says, "affected me like a poison. All my tissues hurt when I saw them, when I saw Rose with them, as if my capillaries were carrying acid into the furthest reaches of my system"(8).
A. Stephen C. Bandy and Kathleen G. Ochshorn try in separate occasions to analyze the final scene between the grandmother and the Misfit.

The plot unfolded when a messenger arrived at the seminary to notify Miss Minchin that Captain Crewe died and his estate had been seized. Miss Minchin would not be receiving any compensation for Sarah’s care. Miss Minchin, emensly disturbed by the news, immediately ended Sarah’s elaborate Birthday party and divulged to Sarah very unsympathetically that her father died several weeks ago. Sarah was being held responsible for paying back the expenses that were incurr...
Crucet says, “I don’t even remember the moment they drove away,” but unlike the author’s family, mine left after I moved in, they did not stay the whole first week into my classes. After the first day of being alone, I wish they
The grandmother uses many excuses for the family to go to Tennessee instead of Florida on vacation. The first of her many excuses is “The Misfit”, a serial killer that has escaped from prison and is headed toward Florida, claiming that she would never take her children anywhere near a man like that. This didn’t have the desired effect on Bailey so she explains to him and his wife how the children need more variety and they should take the children to see different parts of the world, East Tennessee for example. Once again her plea to Bailey and his wife had no effect. Even after they had left home she continued to try and divert them from their coarse. Finally succeeding when she convinced the children they would like to visit an old plantation home she had visited during her own childhood.
In the late 1700’s the slave population in the United States had decreased. Before the invention of the cotton gin the South, which could only make money by farming, was loosing money because it didn’t have a major crop to export to England and the North besides tobacco and rice. However, these crops could be grown elsewhere. Cotton was the key because it couldn’t be grown in large amounts in other places, but only one type of cotton that could be cleaned easily. This was long-staple cotton. Another problem arose; long-staple cotton only could be grown along the coast. There was another strain of cotton that until then could not be cleaned easily so it wasn’t worth growing. The cotton gin was the solution to this problem. With the invention of the cotton gin short stemmed cotton could be cleaned easily making cotton a valued export and it could be grown anywhere in the south. The era of the “Cotton Kingdom” began with this invention leading into an explosion in the necessity of slaves.

How can a town be nameless? You wouldn’t be able to say I am from ___. Because you would have no idea how to say where you were from except Tennessee. How does something like that happen. In the town of Nameless, Tennessee is a clear example of what happens when you don’t name a town. It was a small town in the middle of nowhere that most people didn’t know about or new was even there. Nameless, Tennessee was a town in the middle of no where. No one new who discovered the town. When the post office was created they had to come up with a name.
“Now that you have read and it’s almost time for the last part of the day to begin I thought that I would tell you that we’re going on a field trip to see a play sometime this next week. How’s that sound?” Pretty much everyone wanted to go to the play. She said, “Good, so I’m going to have someone pass the permission slips out so that you all can get it signed and can go on the field trip.” Pretty much everyone was very excited for this field trip, it was going to be fun.
They say he’s been to Alcatraz. They say that he’s escaped. The world is searching far and wide and yet never have they found him. They say he was an experiment gone wrong. They say no one knows anything about him. They say he is immortal. They know nothing. There is only one who knows. There is only one he can trust. That one just happens to be my Papa.

As Ann is standing beside Amber she keeps getting these expressions that say, she likes being with her friends but, ‘what is taking so long? Can’t we get out of these dang robes, yet?’
