Jason had just got in the house when he picked up the phone to call Ginny. He knew she’d probably heard about the incident on the news, and knew she’d be going bonkers. After his initial greeting and efforts to calm her down and tell her about what he’d been through, he finally paused to let her respond. With every word she spoke, he could hear the strain in Ginny’s voice. He imagined her face looked just as stressed. “Jason, I was so worried about you. I woke up this morning and turned on the radio like always while I have my coffee and get ready for classes. The news had all these people talking about what happened at house. It’s terrible! How can you even think of spending another night there?” “I figure it got its fill last night so it’s probably ready to rest tonight like I am” he said, trying not to sound nervous. …show more content…
I kept waiting on you to call. When you didn’t, I called the police station and they wouldn’t tell me if you were there or not. I didn’t know what to do” she said, finally taking a breath. “I’ve called and called the house today. One time, it sounded like someone picked up but they didn’t say anything. I drove over there, and some old guy was doing something to your door. I was going to stop, but I had no idea who he was and, well, with the house being like it is, didn’t want to take a chance without you being
Within the logic of the novel, it is soon established that Ginny understands and feels external reality through her body, and the most important instance of this is her bodily urge to have children. The sight of Rose's daughters, contrasted with her own miscarriages, Ginny says, "affected me like a poison. All my tissues hurt when I saw them, when I saw Rose with them, as if my capillaries were carrying acid into the furthest reaches of my system"(8).
Jason strides towards Vivian doing his daily routine of checking on his patients. It is not until a few moments pass that he realizes her unresponsiveness. He stops, realizing the horror of what might, and already is happening. He begins calling for a code, something that we know she does not want. Throughout the chaos, it is Susie who must take charge. These two lines highlight how Susie and Jason empathize towards Vivian. Susie states: “She’s DNR!” (Edson 83). While Jason states: “She’s Research!” (Edson 83). Susie respects Vivian’s choice and the hardships that she has been through. Although Jason cares about her cancer and the treatment itself, Vivian is much more than research. He pounds and yells “frantically … giving mouth-to-mouth resuscitation” (Edson 81). Jason is not only afraid, he is terrified of losing
“Oh God,” Garraty gasped. “Oh Jesus Christ they’re killing me. I… I can’t…” He broke into loose, trickling laughter once more. His knees buckled. McVries ripped him to his feet once more. Garraty’s collar tore. They were both warned. That’s my last warning, Garraty thought dimly. I’m on my way to see that fabled farm. Sorry, Jan, I…
In the late 1700’s the slave population in the United States had decreased. Before the invention of the cotton gin the South, which could only make money by farming, was loosing money because it didn’t have a major crop to export to England and the North besides tobacco and rice. However, these crops could be grown elsewhere. Cotton was the key because it couldn’t be grown in large amounts in other places, but only one type of cotton that could be cleaned easily. This was long-staple cotton. Another problem arose; long-staple cotton only could be grown along the coast. There was another strain of cotton that until then could not be cleaned easily so it wasn’t worth growing. The cotton gin was the solution to this problem. With the invention of the cotton gin short stemmed cotton could be cleaned easily making cotton a valued export and it could be grown anywhere in the south. The era of the “Cotton Kingdom” began with this invention leading into an explosion in the necessity of slaves.
“Ain't no police around here, Sweetie,” Junior said. The blond's brows wrinkled. She must be a newcomer. Junior explained the situation. “Sheriff's office is gutted, jail's got a revolving door. Only detectives are Staters out of Medford. If we're lucky.” He took a swig of beer. “You can thank Myra Lipton for
Before I could even think of what to do, she was right up at my window, wide-eyed. She gestured to open the door. There was no way I was doing that. She still had that aggressive tone in her facial expression. She couldn’t be trusted. She was crazy. I put my window down a little bit so I could see what she had to say. I was hoping it was an apology for rude she was to me.
They are smarter than most police I’ve worked with, they know that I am world famous for solving crimes and are waiting for me to tell them my leads. I tell them that I suspect Sarah. She doesn't have a very good story. I’m going to have to find out more information before I can figure out the case. While I’m at my house trying to figure out this case, I need you to search Sarah’s room and let me know if you find anything about poison, the Howell case, or anything incriminating. Before I go home, I tell Maya that I need her to figure what was the poison that killed Mike and how it killed him.
How can a town be nameless? You wouldn’t be able to say I am from ___. Because you would have no idea how to say where you were from except Tennessee. How does something like that happen. In the town of Nameless, Tennessee is a clear example of what happens when you don’t name a town. It was a small town in the middle of nowhere that most people didn’t know about or new was even there. Nameless, Tennessee was a town in the middle of no where. No one new who discovered the town. When the post office was created they had to come up with a name.
Paleness rushes over Janine’s body as she stands there; her face looking as if she seen a ghost. With no hesitation, she slowly shuts the door. The women knocks again, but this time Janine doesn’t answer. “What are you doing here? Go away!” Janine says.

How are the central ideas of the Enlightenment era reflected in the Robinson Crusoe, Gulliver’s travel and the painting Gin Lane by William Hogarth? I will additionally focus more on the Robinson Crusoe, because it could be argued that Robinson Crusoe is based on René Descartes works, the father of modern philosophy. In order to answer the thesis we need to understand the central ideas in the Enlightenment
