What goes on in your mind as you read? Are you enjoying the process of reading the book?
When I first began to read Ghostgirl I was worried that I had chosen a typical teen girl drama book. The novel began by introducing the protagonist, an intelligent but shy girl who has trouble fitting in at her high school, Hawthorne High. Charlotte is desperate to fit in, and spends her summer planning what outfits she will wear, the people she’ll talk to, and most of all, how she will get her crush Damian to fall in love with her and forget about the mean, gossiping Petula. Odly enough, unlike most teen books, her plans start to work, and by a stroke of unbelievable luck she is assigned to be Damian’s science partner. I had almost decided not to continue reading this novel, thinking that it would follow the usual pattern of trying to be popular, succeding, having something go terribly wrong, and then learning that popularity is not important, but the novel sud...

...epiest part of the book, but it was also the first time that the ghosts show what they’re truly capable of. Finally, what really stood out to me was how Charlotte reacted to finding out she was dead. Charlotte first screams, runs, and finally begins to panic before accepting what has happened. At first I though this was overdramatic of her, but when I stopped to think about it, it was probably what I would have done too, and this scene made me question how I would feel if I was placed in her position.
I truly enjoyed reading Ghostgirl, and while I had a few problems reading it, such as the very large quantity of characters that became hard to keep track of, I found it to be a great experience. It was well written, with many realistic characters, and an original story. I would recomend this book to anyone with a love for the supernatural and a dark sense of humor.
In the story “Listening to Ghosts” Malea Powell talks about the native Americans on challenges and educational practices. The story is about the native American living in America before the British came to ruin their lives. This effect caused the Native Americans to disappear for good and became shadows. Afterwards there were different theories about the beliefs such as white guy philosopher's theory and western culture theory. The white guy’s philosopher's theory states that the stories were special and central civilized.Western culture, people thought that they were “savages” and “civilized”.
The book had a few characters that I liked, but a lot of characters that I disliked. For example Yasmine was a character that I disliked. I didn’t like her because she brought pain to Paige’s life. Yasmine and Paige were best friends for months in Sixth grade. They were constantly doing fun activities together, like having sleepovers or planning each other’s birthday parties, but all that was ruined by a mistake Yasmine made. Paige and Yasmine were at a school dance, when
To me, the challenging part of the book was reading a book on a topic that I do not know much about. I am starting to become familiar with the legal system, however I am nowhere near that of a lawyer. This is why I stumbled at times on some of the legal lingo that the book contained. In addition to that, I did find myself with a better understanding of our legal system. I felt like I was along for the ride on the whole legal process. Also, I would like to note that I thoroughly enjoyed the chapter on the autopsy because I thought it was very interesting how they performed those procedures in that time period. I loved the detail that the author went into when describing how it all took place.
There were many parts of the book that had me hooked; I couldn’t stop reading no matter what was going on.
I found the book to be easy, exciting reading because the story line was very realistic and easily relatable. This book flowed for me to a point when, at times, it was difficult to put down. Several scenes pleasantly caught me off guard and some were extremely hilarious, namely, the visit to Martha Oldcrow. I found myself really fond of the char...
In class I read the first few pages and was immediately pulled into the book by the letter sent to Max’s mom and dad. It was a giant hook that reeled me right in. I can put myself right into Max’s shoes as a student going to school in Rochester. Well I mean kinda… now we can just text our parents.
The main character of this book is Susan Caraway, but everyone knows her as Stargirl. Stargirl is about 16 years old. She is in 10th grade. Her hair is the color of sand and falls to her shoulders. A “sprinkle” of freckles crosses her nose. Mostly, she looked like a hundred other girls in school, except for two things. She didn’t wear makeup and her eyes were bigger than anyone else’s in the school. Also, she wore outrageous clothes. Normal for her was a long floor-brushing pioneer dress or skirt. Stargirl is definitely different. She’s a fun loving, free-spirited girl who no one had ever met before. She was the friendliest person in school. She loves all people, even people who don’t play for her school’s team. She doesn’t care what others think about her clothes or how she acts. The lesson that Stargirl learned was that you can’t change who you are. If you change for someone else, you will only make yourself miserable. She also learned that the people who really care about you will like you for who you are. The people who truly love you won’t ask you to change who you are.
My overall opinion of this book is good I really liked it and recommend it to anyone. It is a good book to read and it keep you interested throughout the whole book.
The plot of the book, Speak is that Melinda Sordino, a freshman at Merryweather High went to an end of the summer party with some of her friends. Things take a turn for the worst when a senior named Andy Evans sexually assaults her at the party without her friends knowing about it. Melinda is frightened, afraid, and does not know what to do so she calls 911 busting the party, and causing her friends and everyone at that school to hate her, even if they don’t know her.
The Graveyard Book is a tale about Nobody (Bod) Owens, a human boy who was raised in a graveyard. Bod came to the graveyard as an infant, escaping his death by The Man Jack. Adopted by the ghosts of the deceased Mr. and Mrs. Owens, Bod is raised among the dead who inhabit the graveyard. Taught by the spirits and given Freedom of the Graveyard, he learns special talents like “fading” in order to live in the graveyard comfortably and undetected, safe from the man Jack, who is still searching for him. The book makes me understand the importance of reading and know how weak I’m in reading comprehension. Not only is my reading speed slow, but also my thoughts after reading are immature. I haven’t fix some time to read English books before so my background knowledge and vocabulary are far from abundant.
book I was greatly troubled by its ending. I can see why it is an excellent novel, but at
Stephen King is one of the most respected and well known men to ever write horror stories, behind Edgar Allen Poe of course. Stephen King is very famous all around the world for his novels such as It, Halloween, Carrie, The Shining, Pet Cemetery, as well as another amazing fifty-nine other novels. I have only read three of Kings books, Carrie, Pet Cemetery, and The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, which I have selected for my book report. Personally The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon was my least favorite, I did not find it frightening at all, and a little boring at times. It seemed like a nine year old would not be as intelligent as the the girl in the book and very unrealistic. Not that any of his other books are realistic, just this one did not satisfy me with the amount of horror even though it is classified as a horror story.
Base on skimming through the book, I look every part from beginning to the end and saw nothing. I thought I was a failure just because I couldn’t see the thing he want us to focus on. I took my time again in reading the book slowly. Analyzing the book more thoroughly, I think I started to get the hang of the theme he wants us to learn from. I felt so ignorant because it was always there in front of me the whole time.
