After several seconds of a show of adoration from the audience, the applauding subsided and they sat back down. Director Johnson then continued. “These three showed special courage and selflessness in the performance of their task. I take great personal pride in telling you that my goal, my passion, is to make this country safe for it 's citizens. I want everyone in the FBI to have the same desire and respect for the laws of this country along with compassion for the victims of criminal acts. Justice was served after 36 years when the FBI finally tracked down the masterminds behind the biggest bank robbery in New York's history, the Lufthansa Heist. The FBI believes that this is a lesson to be learned for the thousands of criminals today. No matter how long, even decades, like the Lufthansa Heist, you will be found and your time will be served. Even though the mobsters were captured, the man who thought of the entire scheme, James Burke, still carried out plans to continue their "business" in recent months of the year. There were many different assets to this very critical plan that the crime family had prepared for, but they did not know that sooner or later they were going to get caught.
Jim Valvano was the head coach for the North Carolina State Wolfpack in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). In 1992, he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and as a result he created the V Foundation, whose raises money for cancer research. In 1993, Valvano won the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage at the ESPY’s. In his acceptance speech, Valvano effectively incorporates the three appeals of speech writing, but uses a strong ethos appeal to capture the audience. Through such a strong ethos appeal, Valvano makes himself worthy for the award he is receiving, which is the goal for any acceptance speech. Valvano’s speech is also effective because he uses four of the six parts of a speech, found in the Ad Herenium. In Valvano’s speech, exordium, narration, proof, and peroration are present. Since the purpose of this speech is not to get the hearers to donate, division (showing the difference between you and your opponent) and refutation (lowering your opponent’s arguments) are not needed. So let us go through Valvano’s speech to see the different parts where he makes his ethos appeal.
Lewiston, Idaho, once an important port for miners traveling in search of gold, is now a town of about 30,000 people. Few of the people who live in the Lewis-Clark Valley speak of its over one hundred year history. However, there are still parts of the community where one can explore and see the age of the town. Downtown Lewiston is one of a few areas where people can go exploring. They wander the streets, admiring the buildings that stand proudly above them. One building in particular ties a unique history into the downtown area. Morgan’s Alley stands at the corner of Main Street and D Street, overlooking the cars and people passing by. On the outside, it looks like an ordinary, older building. On the inside, it holds secrets of the past and possibly a ghost.

The story, Gang Leader for a Day by Sudhir Venkatesh, is a ethnographic study of a Black King Gang in the Robert Taylor community. Venkatesh accidentally stumbles upon the gang lead by J.T. and decided to study them. Throughout his journey he learns from the violence and illegal activity he witnesses that “in the projects it’s more important that you take care of the problem first. Then you worry about how you took care of it”’ (Venkatesh. 2008:164). He witnesses beatings, selling of illegal drugs, and exploitation of residents; but he also gained a lot of knowledge about the community. He works with J.T. and Ms. Bailey, the community leader, closely through his study. J.T. has taken a sociology class and he allows Venkatesh to shadow the gang
In the video titled Rival Gangs Unite for Justice, a CNN correspondent is interviewing members of different street gangs, who have temporarily set aside their differences and attempt to bring a sense of order to the community. When asked if the destructive behavior was gang related, they replied no, they are the ones out there trying to keep the peace. Additionally, when asked if they were doing anything to warrant the police constantly stopping and searching them one gang member shouted, “Stereotypes!” and another stated, “That’s why it’s not all about the (gang) colors right now, it’s about the black man…we’re all united right now, there’s a bigger systematic problem we gotta deal with” (CNN). Throughout the interview they roll footage of
My homicide case began when the Shreveport Police Department (SPD) received a call from a male caller via 911 reporting he found a body of a black male found in a park near a cul-de-sac in a residential area. I was dispatched and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, I began steps documenting the crime scene. I initiated a rough sketch of the scene and initiated my field notes. A cordon was initiated as I began identifying possible evidence and identifying witnesses and suspects. I canvassed the area and found four 9mm shell casings near the body.
