Getting into High School in Jamaica I was sitting at my desk, waiting on my results to see what high school I was in. As I was waiting I was scared as a bat, wondering if I got into a good school or not. Suddenly I heard my friend Jody begin to yell my name but I couldn't hear what she was trying to tell me since the classroom was so loud. I was so scared that I began to sweat and shake at the same time and I felt that was going to die. I thought that I did so bad on the exam that I was going to attend a bad school. While my friends went up to the teacher's desk, they were so happy as can be. Any thoughts I was thinking that my friends are going to attend a better school while I’m not. They were better than me in some parts of the exams. …show more content…
The first day of our exams we were so scared because we weren’t allowed to use calculators and also couldn't use a formula sheet during the numeracy exam.
I had to remember the formula for equations, terms and everything that had to do with the numeracy exam. The exam was so hard that my brain couldn’t function properly, I couldn’t remember some of the equations and questions. If I don’t pass the numeracy exam I would have to redo grade six and also do the exams again. I did my literacy exam. It wasn't that hard, I knew what to do and I understood it but for the numeracy exam I couldn’t understand some of the
things. While I was sitting at the desk waiting for my results, I was thinking If I don’t pass my parents would be mad and they won’t be too happy If I spent another year in primary school. And If I do bad and attend a bad school they would kill me. Sitting there praying that I did so good and that I would be going to attend a good high school so that they would be happy for me. As I was sitting there wondering, Jody approached me. “ Ashante I am going to attend Bridgeport High School,” she said. “ Jody? I said. “ That’s good, better than me, Jody” I said. I was sitting there thinking at my desk. “Yeah it is. I am so happy, I hope we are going to the same high school and I hope you get in a good school too,” she said. “Yes I hope so,” I said. Jody went down stairs to see Christina and tell her the good news and to see what school Christina is going to attend. A period of time passed sitting there while Jody left. “Ashante, you're next,” said the teacher. “Yes, Mrs.Welch I am coming,” I gasped and got out of the seat. I couldn’t imagine what Mrs. Welch will tell me about what school I will attend and my grade or average. I thought hard and fast what I might have done on that test again with positive thinking. Is she going to be proud of me or not.? Before I could consider thinking more about what was going to happen, Mrs. Welsh’s voice shattered my thoughts I reached towards the teacher's desk. “Ashante, I’m so happy for you,” she said. “You are going to attend Bridgeport High,” she said. I was so astonished, and pleased for myself. I left the teacher desk so jolly as can be. I went downstairs to see Jody and Christina. I approached them. “Ashante what school are you going to attend?,” Jody said. “Bridgeport High School.” I said. “We are going to attend the same high school Ashante,” Jody said. “Yes I am so happy, I thought that I did bad on the exam and I was so scared what my result was going to be,” I said. “Yeah” Jody said. Suddenly Christina came out of her classroom so happy and enthusiastic. “Ashante and Jody, I am going to attend Bridgeport High school,” she hollered. “We are going to the same school,’’ Jody said to Christina. “Yeah we three are going to Bridgeport High School,” I said. We were so happy and enthusiastic that we three are going to the same Secondary school. I was so delighted to see that I exceeded on the exams so I didn’t have to redo primary school and redo the exams again. My friends and I graduated from primary school and then attended Bridgeport high school together. We met new friends and we were still friends. Some of my other friends from primary school came to the same school as well. It was the happiest day of my life.
The sweat was dripping down my face as I pushed the weights off my chest. Everyone ran towards their bags after a student said there was a gun in school. Twitter was the first source that we checked just to make sure. Boom! The door slammed open as coach Ben yells “Hurry up and get out”. My heart started beating faster and faster. We didn’t know what was going on. As we were running to the gym everyone was panicking and pushing each other. I could feel the burn on my elbow but I didn’t know what it was. When we got to the gym my elbow was covered in blood. We were told to get down and stay quiet. Later on we were told a student brought a gun to school and was planning on committing suicide. That was one of many gun incidents at my high school.
I’m not sure but, I think I was still in what the kids call “the dumb hallway”. After a few months a new student came and we became good friends. We had a lot of thing that we liked, she always dragged me around to people and she was slowly pulling me out of my shell. I was becoming so happy. After a few months, I was in my room and I was thinking back about my life. There were a few tears and I was thinking to myself, what I was doing. I came to realize I didn’t have it bad as other people; I wasn’t the only one that was lonely. I went to sleep after that I found out it was 6:00 so, what I did was went down stairs and went to my garage. I went down there because, there was a punching bag sitting there to relive my stress. After, hour my grandma came down and said to
I walked in and my stomach made a flip-flop like riding “The Scream” at Six Flags. Everyone was staring at me! With their curios eyes and anxious to know who I was. I froze like ice and felt the heat rise through my face. My parents talked to my teacher, Ms.Piansky. Then my mom whispered “It’s ti...

Everything is in the same boat at the very start of school however soon after you are expected to know your way around. It can be difficult being one of those people who learn slower than others. I remember one of my teachers getting mad at this girl countless times for being late to class the second week of school. It is better to figure out your way sooner than later if you are in this situation. Whenever I think about not knowing your way around I think about one of my friends. It is the second month of school and he always walks right past our advisory class. I don 't understand how he doesn 't know where it is by now and that he keeps making the same mistake. Luckily he always realizes before he goes into another classroom which would be awkward. One of my friends went on to tell me how he has walked into the wrong classroom countless times. To make it worse he has walked in late to the wrong classroom while the teacher was talking. If this was me I would have died of embarrassment and I would forever be haunted by that memory. Whether you want to admit it or not everyone 's always judging off of your actions. You don 't want to have a reputation of being the kid who doesn 't know his way around school.
In life we all face obstacles. The troubles that we face don’t define us, how we overcome the situation is what makes us the people we are today. Throughout my life I have faced many trials and tribulations that I had to overcome with the help of my mother, ofcourse. I was smooth sailing in life until I started high school.
All or most of us have gone through it. The countless hours we spent filling out college applications, scholarship applications, visiting colleges, and taking the dreaded tests. Whether it was the PSAT, SAT, ACT, or other college entrance exams, it was a big hassle. After visiting such a great number of colleges, the advantages and disadvantages of the schools seemed to run together in my mind. The endless paper work and deadlines seemed as though they would never end. When I thought about college, it seemed like it was not real, like it was a figment of my imagination. I imagined what it would be like, wondering where I would go. The questions of "What did I want to major in?" and after I decided that, "What schools had my major?" circled around in my head. When filling out questionnaires for college searches I was asked about what size college I preferred, whether I wanted to be in a rural or suburban area. Did I really know how to answer these questions that would so greatly affect the next four years of my life?
Beginning high school causes a whirlwind of emotions for many students. Many students feel intimidated by this new, divergent school setting. On the contrary, some students are prepared and enthusiastic to enter high school. For some students, the transition is easy, for others it is challenging. When I entered high school, I was enthusiastic about the years to come. Beginning my high school career, I thought high school would be an easy transition because I was accustomed to getting good grades in grammar school, so I did not put as much of an effort as I could have in my studies. The first biology test arrived, and I thought I was knowledgeable on the subject matter so I briefly looked over the material. Approximately a week later
As a senior in high school, I have a lot of advice on how to survive high school that would benefit incoming freshman. The first piece of advice I have to offer is to figure out what is most important to you. If you want to be a star athlete, push yourself every day in the gym to be that much better than you were before; others might want to be a doctor so they spend a lot of extra time in the classroom getting all the help they can get. No matter what path you choose, figuring out the person you want to be after high school is the first step to surviving high school. The second piece of advice that I recommend, possibly the biggest one, is to walk on the right side of the hallway. Nothing bothers upperclassman more than students that walk
My brother and I drove up past the high school, and we turned the corner toward the senior parking lot. I got all of these mixed emotions, between happy, and about to throw up. I had heard the high school would be hard, but no one told me it was going to be nerve wracking. We parked the car on a very cold morning. I opened the doors of the white 1988 Toyota Pick up truck.
I know that life is really hard because we faced struggles during high school. And, sometimes most of the students stress and pain. We let the pain and stress to take control over us because we are weak. And there's is where and when we start to getting bad grades, being disrespectful to their parents, and teachers. And we don’t think or realize that we are hurting the ones we love, but the most affecting is ourselves. I know that we can find problems around the corner, because we are humans. We always think that that’s okay to do those things. The world and everything around us becomes our enemy, even the air we breath. The people who wants to see us to success, are the ones we think they don’t know nothing. We get to the point when we decide
I was starting my freshman year in college by making friends as many as possible. Day one of college was going well, teachers and classmates were perfect to communicate with, even though we are from diffenrent places in the world. My class finished at 2 o’clock, then i chose to walk to home instead of catching the bus. I was confident on myseft that i could remember the turns i had to take to get home. Yet, it was getting dark and nothing i could see. My heart began beating fast . After 10 minutes walking hopelessly, i saw a restaurant, actually a Vietnamese restaurant. I immediately went in and asked for help. The restaurant owner seemed to be the same age as my father. He looked at me and said to the cooker to make me something to eat. Honestly, i was feeling really hungry and that was the most delicious food i had ever ate. After few questions, he called for me a taxi and i did not forget to say thank before leaving. First day of school could be not really good, however, i had met some good friends and a nice person, which was enough for a new
It was the time of ninety's when I was in my middle school in India. We were three best friends who cahoot, study, and, enjoy most of the time together. One day we were returning to home after school. Meanwhile, we saw some boys were tailgating a girl and she was looking very nervous and scared in the isolated street. After a moment she ran away and boys did the same.I was wondering about the safety of that girl and asked my friends to follow that girl but they denied and we returned home.I was not able to sleep that night and keep thinking about the girl.
Waking up at 6 maybe even earlier is hard, I know trust me. Yes it would be nice to roll out around 10. However that’s not the case is it? All high school students can relate that early mornings can be a pain. I know I can. But we also have it nice because we get home early and have a hour before our siblings show up from school. And before our parents come home yelling at us to finish the dishes. Nice isn’t it?
On the test day I woke up really early because I do not want to be late at this very important day. When I arrived at the test center, I was the first to arrive, I took the initiative to reading some of my notebook, but that just making me more nervous. After a few moments later my classmate joins me waiting for re-registration. After the re-registration, we finally allowed to enter the exam room, it is tremendously huge. Then the invigilators told us to sit on the desk that already provided according to the list, as soon as all of the test participants sit in their place, the invigilators start to distributed the answer and the questions sheets. Without delay the invigilator start reading the rules and the procedures of filling both sheets. I listened attentively because I really do not want to fail just because of trivial mistakes for ignoring the rules. Both invigilators have a same very serious face, in that case makes me more nervous. At 09.00 the test has started, I can handle the listening and reading section quite easily, but when I started to continue to the writing section, I just forgot everything that I have learnt, I felt like stalling. At that moment I nearly cried, its felt like I am just a big disappointment for my family, I will never be as good as my parent. I pray to God to help me to give me
