Recommended: Crime scene investigation process

It’s a rainy morning. I prepare myself for what’s about to happen in the woods with my getaway vehicle driver. We finally make the drive towards the planned location. In the early hours of 4:48 a.m. I enter the 24-hour bank armed with a pistol hidden in my coat. I am wearing a wig, makeup, and prosthetics to hide my appearance. I approach the counter where a banker stands on the other side. I hand the banker a note to give me the money from the vault. They walk slowly over to the door in the back and I follow them. No one in the bank has noticed this. He opens the vault, but seems to have a change of heart as he gets into a struggle for my weapon. After some fighting, I get the gun aimed at him and fire from close range. I run in, take some of the money, and get out in the confusion. I hop in the getaway vehicle before any police arrive. Forensic experts can use the tracks left on the road to determine the sort of tires on the vehicle. Using the track width and wheelbase, the type of car can also be identified. This can give police the direction that I got away in as well. My shoes left mud prints on the floor of the bank because I was in the woods as it was raining. This gives police an idea of my foot size and height. It can also tell them if I was injured, the way that I walk, and the wear pattern on my shoes. The trajectory of the bullets I fired into the victim are analyzed by experts. The intensity of the wound can determine how close I was when I fired. The gunpowder residue on the victim also indicates I was at point blank range. The bullet is extracted from the victim and processed. The make and caliber of the bullet can be determined so the police know what type of firearm I used. The rifling marks on the bullet will also match up to my weapon if they find it. Because of all my mistakes at the crime scene, police are able to find and apprehend
