How to Get out of Poverty that Exists in the Community
Many peoples who live in a poor community conceive that a person with low-income will never get out of poverty if he was born in that community. They have that thought of seeing themselves and their peers. However, this thought is based largely on ignorance. Every poor can get a better life if he is willing to get it. Many poor became rich by a determination to overcome their poverty. The education is the first way to get out of poverty, secondly is the change of location and the final one is to get parents’ support. There is no doubt to believe that education, changing of location, and parents’ support are keys to overcoming poverty. To begin with, education is the best way to overcoming

He also stated that to earn a high income, there is no doubt for the workforces to be a better educated and trained which means that education is the best tool of antipoverty. Education is the key to success, and it makes the poor person aware of what is right or wrong. Education is not only limited to knowledge, but it builds the personality of the students. Also, any poor person, who has the desire to overcome the poverty, gets it through education. For example, one family who was immigrant resident lived in a poor neighborhood in East Houston. They worked roughly, but they were still poor. After years, the husband joined the military and pursued his school, which helps them to better their household income. In addition, Jensen stated that students with …show more content…
A Harvard professor Hendren, who is one of the authors of the study: “Location matters, place matters,” confirmed that point. According to him, “it matters where you grow up”; that means the location and the place can contribute to getting out of the poverty. Even though any poor community is full of crimes such as burglary, juvenile delinquency; any person who decides to be out of that social path obtains a better life. For instance, worst friendship is not a good way to succeed. The poor people, who avoid trouble friends and strive for academic knowledge, reach a better life. There is nothing good in the poor community, so when they move out of the poor community, their life changes due to better opportunities the find elsewhere. Those jobs help the individual and their families to increase their income and improve their social status. Even though the poor community does not have a good expectation on the optimism, I believe firmly in its positive site for poor people to get out of the poverty. The optimism is the essence of the beginning of the
...ecause there is strong dependence of how a person overcomes poverty and matters in life.
Poverty has many influences on children under the age of 16. The research fined out that in recent year, an increasing number of children become poor, live under the poverty condition- childhood poverty lasted 10 years or more. So, what does the poverty exactly mean to children? According to Brook-Gunn and Duncan, The kids who live in the poverty condition have the low quality of schools; more likely to have domestic violence and become homeless; less access to friends, services, etc. (Brooks-Gunn et all, 1997) That points out the disadvantage and how the family income influence youngsters overall childhood, since under the poverty condition, they children do not have enough money to support for their necessary needs, they will more likely to have low self-confidence and hard to blend in with their peers. Poverty has impact on children’s achievement in several different ways. Payne (2003) maintained that the poverty could affect children achievement though emotional, mental, financial, and role models (Payne, 2003). Thus, the children from low-income family are more likely to have self-destructive behavior, lack of control emotional response and lack of necessary intellectual, that is really important for the students under the age of 16. Nevertheless, the children who suffer from poverty are usually have low birth weight and low cognitive ability
The article, “Education, poverty and schooling: a study of delhi slum dwellers”, highlights that “education positively influences poverty reduction, while poverty, or low income, adversely affects the quality and quantity of education”. This model is very much apparent in Jackie’s life. As she lacked formal education in the early stages of her life, she remained in the cycle of poverty even into her adulthood. Without the knowledge of how to change things and the inability of doing so, it is very much difficult, if not impossible, for her to get out of this infinite
People are often faced with many challenges that force them into poverty, which often is out of their control. A person that lives in poverty has the ability to take hold of their lives and go on to become productive is inspiring to me as a student of the social work cohort. Striving to become a social worker and reading this book allowed me the insight of the different people that I will encounter on a daily basis. As a social worker I will come intact with a variety of people that live in poverty, as well as some that do not. The people that I will encounter will be recovering addicts, people that are faced with unemployment that are struggling with paying bills or providing food for their families. Another thing that stays with me is the few that can live just above the poverty line, as well as the many that live in poverty daily. Advocating, counseling, or educating is one area of social work that I will have to provide for clients. In thinking about this, there are many services that can help individuals and family. These services only aid the persons and will not take them out of the condition known as poverty. Families fall in and out of poverty easily during their life time. With that being said, there are families that receive a much needed hands up, which allows them to fall out of poverty. But the fear of poverty looms constancy at their doors. One of the most important things that a person that lives in poverty can do is to strive for a better education. With a higher education there are more opportunities for advancement within the work force. The advancements that are rewarded with a higher degree of education will enable poverty stricken families to a better way of living. Which will provide a higher income, medical insurance for health problems, better education, and better housing opportunities. This is another area that my studies will enhance my ability when working as a social worker.
The idea that people of poor communities conform to a living standard and behavior is a concept described by Oscar Lewis as the culture of poverty. It is the belief that poor people consists of their own beliefs and values and behaviors. And more than 45 years later after the term, the culture of poverty paradigm remains the same: there is a consistent and observable culture that is shared by people in poverty. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as the culture of poverty. differences in behaviors and values among those that are poor are just as significant as those between wealthy and poor. The culture of poverty is a construct of smaller stereotypes which seem to have implanted themselves into the collective conscience of mainstream thought as undeniable fact. However, as we will see, nothing could be further from the truth. Based on 6 most common myths of what defines poor from wealthy, I will provide evidence to the contrary.
Everyone knows what the word poverty means. It means poor, unable to buy the necessities to survive in today's world. We do not realize how easy it is for a person to fall into poverty: A lost job, a sudden illness, a death in the family or the endless cycle of being born into poverty and not knowing how to overcome it. There are so many children in poverty and a family's structure can effect the outcome. Most of the people who are at the poverty level need some type of help to overcome the obstacles. There are mane issues that deal with poverty and many things that can be done to stop it.
Poverty is a potential outcome for everyone. It’s sneaky and many people fall victim to it every year. No one believes that they have the potential to fall into debt, but it can happen through a string of bad luck, time running short, and other possibilities that can’t be controlled. People who are struggling with difficulty believe that there is no way out because no one will help them. However, there are ways for us, as a society, to help those who are short on income receive the help that they need. Many of the impoverished are thought to be slackers, addicts, or self-destructive to their lives. Society can help each other by dismembering the stereotypes given to people who are underneath the “Poverty Line” that they used as wedges between the classes. Labels given to those who’re poor have nothing to do with who they are as humans.
Insular poverty, elucidated by Professor John Kenneth Galbraith in his 1969 essay, The Position of Poverty, refers to the collages of people who are poor because the designation of their lives trap them on ‘social islands’ where nearly everyone is living in these standards. (Galbraith 404) Poverty has flagrantly become a ‘back of the mind’ subject in America. The underlying question remains; is American society responsible for the uprise of insular poverty? Despite the "efforts" America puts off to relieve the world of insular poverty, American society is indefinitely responsible for its popularity due to the absence of will for the impoverished to climb out of the hole of poverty, the absence of opportunities given to poverty minority, the absence of compassion for the povertized.
Poverty has been a growing problem in America, and it most likely will never stop being one. Someone who is identified as being in poverty lives beneath the poverty line determined by the Federal government. The poverty line in 2015 for a family of four was $24,250. These are the people who are really considered poor. Poverty isn’t just a problem in the United States; in fact, other countries struggle just as much, if not more, than the United States does. Many people struggle to keep themselves above the government’s poverty line, shown by the fact that the percent of poor people in America hasn’t drastically changed over the years. However, it is possible to get out of, and ultimately stay out of, poverty.
Be poor and have many difficulties does not mean stop to dream . If you have a dream, fight for your dream. No matter the economic status. No matter any obstacle that you have to face. I totally agree when Jo Parker states, “Even the poor can dream, A dream of the time where there is money. Money for the right kinds of food, for worm medicine, for iron pills, for toothbrushes, for hand cream, for a hammer and nails and a bit of screening, for a shovel, for a bit of paint, for some sheeting, for needles and thread.Money to pay in money, for a trip to town, and money for hot water and money for soap” (Parker 126). Have you ever think how awesome will be the world without poverty?. The world where no one has to suffer from hunger, where no one has to sleep in the cold on the street. The world where everyone can live without concerns about how to produce money to pay for medical attention. In Jo Parker view, “ The poor can dream, a dream of when asking for help does not eat away the last bit of pride. When the office you visit is a nice as the offices of other governmental agencies, where there are enough workers to help you quickly, where you don’t have to prove your poverty over and over and over again’’ (Parker 126). Poor people have the right to receive appropriate benefits. Unfortunately, there are many poor people without this because the government has many requirements to give benefits,But poor people still with the right of decent jobs,
Many people do not realize that there are tens of millions of people in America who are living in poverty because they are stuck on the fact that America is one of the richest nations. People who are living in poverty barely have enough money to survive on basic necessities like food, shelter and electricity. They often have a hectic schedule filled with work, school, or other activities that they have to do in order for them to live a somewhat stable life. Unfortunately, there are others who are living in poverty that may be ill or disabled and barely able to survive even if they are receiving money to help with their situation. There are a few programs that help those in poverty with their financial problems, but they only help them to a certain extent. Changes need to be done to help alleviate the poverty rate because these people should not have to deal with all of these hardships or have such a negative perspective of life. Therefore, America can reduce its poverty by raising the minimum wage, making health care more accessible, and by making child care more affordable. These solutions will be a great start to reducing poverty and they will lead America into a brighter future.
Being lucky or unlucky can change and alter one’s life in different ways. There are more opportunities to flourish within countries that are better developed compared to a less developed one. Due to the luck of being born in a country that is more developed an individual is able to better place themselves in situations that can positively alter their lives. Impoverished individuals whom are born in a country that is less developed, such as Venezuela and the Philippines, do not get the opportunity to chase their dreams. There are not enough teachers and funding to receive a proper education. The access to food in impoverished countries is limited because of wealth indifferences within the economy. The ability to obtain a visa or citizenship in a country that is more stabilized can be a difficult task. Even when individuals obtain a visa or citizenship, it can be difficult for them to get adapted to the new country due to language barriers and customs. As a result, simply being born in another country compared to another can significantly change the way someone can live his or her life...
For economic factors, low wages would be the variable that would lead to poverty. Families that receive low wages can barely support their living expenses. Thus they would not have enough money for programs that would aid their children’s education. Some families think that crime has better incentives than working a low paying job and thus crime could be put in as an economic factor that leads to poverty. Not having enough money for programs like education leads to the ind...
In conclusion, sometimes actions take place that changes a person’s outlook on life and as you can see poverty is one that can have a huge effect on not only one person, but also the people around him/ her.
Those living in poverty have a lack of funds to invest in education, thus their schools lack the material and staff to probably train their students for future success. This lack of education is the root cause of poverty, because those with no education can’t compete for higher paying jobs that require basic understanding in subjects like math, such as being an accountant or bank manager. Their lack of education has limited their job opportunities, therefore limiting them from improving their lifestyle. Furthermore, poverty travels from generation to generation like an endless cycle. Also Children living in poverty have a higher number of absenteeism or leave school all together because they are more likely to have to work or care for family members. In addition, Dropout rates of 16 to 24-years-old students who come from low income families are seven times higher than those from families with higher incomes. Also Less than 30% of students in the bottom quarter of incomes enroll in a 4-year school. Among those less than 50% graduate from college(Dosomething). The lack of education and training for well-paying jobs inhabits these people from ever escaping the cycle of poverty. However, the reason many of these people lack the required education is simply that they can’t afford to attend school or earn a degree. Therefore, this allows them to only have jobs that offer little benefit, and
