There was an article published in the news called ‘Marijuana, the deceptive drug’. In this article a man name George Bierson concludes that marijuana is harmful in many ways including brain damage. also that it can damage your reproductive system. it could also make your immune system weak.Due to my research I think that bierson concluded all of his facts from already assumed conclusions.also due to some research I have found that many of his facts when you look them at logically do not connect to his conclusions. In fact Weed is not as harmful as scientist says. One of Bierson main supports was that marijuana during the test on monkeys caused high amounts of brain damage.he failed to mention that the test was discredited later on. The monkeys were given highly lethal doses, doses even higher than a regular user or medical user would ever intake. More recent studies of heavy marijuana user show no signs of any brain damage at all showing that weed has no long term effect on the brain when it …show more content…
comes to damage. One of the most restated arguments about weed Is that it is a gateway drug.
That makes people wanna do more extremes drugs.that's not true though Saying weed is a gateway drug is not logical because people who smoke cigarettes and drink were never introduced to drugs, they just simply started because they wanted to .Evidence shows there is no evidence of the effects of marijuana causing the abuse of other drugs.it's all about the person and the choices they make. One of the main reasons I think weed should be legalized is because of the good it can do.weed in a medical sense is a helpful drug to lots of people. Like people who have PTSD weed is usually prescribed to them to help calm them down. It can also be used to help people with certain types of cancer to keep it under control. It was also stated that weed does not affect your immune system at all. Also through the use of marijuana it can help with anxiety, depression and other symptoms of that sort so why make it
illegal? On top of all these facts I have given to show why marijuana should be legal. Some people might still say it shouldn't cause of little things like the argument that weed impairs judgment and causes you to act recklessly.the truth behind this could be true for some people. Then you must support the banning of alcohol because that cause people to act very recklessly. Drunk driving kills around ten thousand people every year.while you barely ever hear about a case where weed plays a role in the death of a person. So as you can see there is no difference between the effects of marijuana and alcohol. So tell me again why is it illegal ?
Marijuana is a drug that is harmful to a person¡¯s health. It has been found to have adverse impacts on one¡¯s mental processes such as memory, attention, judgement, and problem- solving (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley, 2004, p.415). Also, marijuana can interfere with a person¡¯s ability to think rationally and logically. Thus, the lapse in judgement caused by the drug use can lead to risky sexual behaviours and this may result in increasing sexually transmitted disease such as AIDS. Moreover, the long-term use of marijuana may cause chronic breathing problems and cancer ...
Although there are numerous deaths, at least 100,000, from prescription drugs each year, there has never been a death attributed to marijuana. The late Dr. Tod Mikuriya, a former administrator of the US government’s marijuana research programs, stated that after he had treated about 10,000 patients in 15 years, he felt that there are about 200 different medical conditions that respond favorably to medical marijuana.
This article is very useful for people who need to understand why people use the drug and where there may be problems. There are some parts of this piece that are hard to follow as he uses jargon that is used in research on cannabis. This is a great starting point to my paper as I can discuss what users are doing with this plant and the pros and cons, they will help me make a strong argument. This story talks about something that I am against, which is synthetic marijuana and the problems that consumers are having with it. This article is written in simple language, but it contains some parts where a simple knowledge of cannabis would be useful.
Another argument you commonly hear from prohibitionists is that it is a “gateway drug”, meaning that using marijuana is the cause of and leads to harder and more harmful drugs. While this sounds like it makes sense in theory, it simply is not true. In fact, most cannabis users do not go on to use harder substances and while most hard drug users started with marijuana, it is more likely that those individuals are just more prone to drug use and started with easier more readily available substances such as tobacco, alcohol, and cannabis. The only sound arguments from prohibitionists is that “Prenatal or adolescent exposure can lead to altered brain development, including changes in the connections between the neurons, or circuits, in certain brain regions. Youthful exposure can lead to earlier onset and more severe psychoses, including schizophrenia, for that part of the population with a genetic predisposition to certain mental illnesses.” (Bruce Barcott and Michael Scherer, The Great Pot Experiment, 2015) and while those are good arguments, nothing is really certain about marijuana and it will continue to be uncertain until restrictions on research is loosened up and people can actually confirm these things and see if there is any way to avoid these
First of all, some people feel smoking marijuana can get hyper, which providing them the emotion of happiness, and helping them to see the world from a different perspective. However, marijuana will cause a lot of healthy problems to human’s body. Marijuana has many physical effects on human such as rapid heart rate, red eyes and dry mouth. Because the chemical THC will enter into the body when people are smoking it, THC will enter through the bloodstream to the brain. The chemical affects them to feel ecstasy and unreality; therefore, THC will make them feel more confused if people smoke marijuana for a long time. According to, “ Treat marijuana abuse like a health problem” (McMillan, 2007, July 17), it shows using marijuana can cause more serious health issues on human’s body such as bronchitis, emphysema, and cancer. In addition, using marijuana has also been linked to lung damage and affects the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. For example, if marijuana ...
The effects of marijuana are minimal. The high has a feeling of euphoria, peacefulness and well-being. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the active chemical in marijuana. It’s estimated that a person would have to ingest a dose 20,000 to 40,000 times the average dose before death would occur. In the early 1990’s sophisticated research on marijuana began. The scientists discovered THC stimulates special receptors in the brain. Researchers have now isolated a natural substance that appears to produce the same effects as THC in the brain. Recently the medical uses of marijuana are being more and more accepted, and many marijuana smokers wonder how it can be harmful if it helps/treats patients.
Marijuana or cannabis, according to the Federal Government is considered dangerous and addictive and is, therefore, placed on the controlled substance list as a schedule 1 drug, making its use and possession illegal, as well it is considered one of the worst drugs. Other more harmful drugs such as cocaine are considered schedule II drugs, so according to the U.S Government cocaine is considered less hazardous than marijuana. There have been many studies conducted by scientist proving the benefits of medical marijuana in relieving chronic pain, nausea and a full array of other ailments. The benefits of legalizing marijuana far outweigh the bad. By allowing people to possess and use marijuana for medicinal purposes, we are improving society as a whole and increasing the happiness or utility of individuals who are living with debilitating conditions in turn this would create a happier society all around.
Marijuana is more helpful than you think. It is much less harmful than legalized substances and drugs most use today. There’s no real reason why marijuana is illegal. Why the government wouldn’t want us to be hungry, happy, and sleepy is beyond me, especially if they’re making billions of dollars on it. Natural marijuana has been on earth since the beginning of time. What makes it wrong now?
Marijuana has a greater beneficial impact on society then many people realize. Marijuana should be legalized for medical as well as recreational purposes. This is a highly controversial issue that is being debated throughout the country. In essence marijuana is evaluated by the effectiveness of the drug. It is defined as the dried flowered clusters and leaves of a hemp plant smoked for the intoxicating effect. Whether it should be legalized or not is the real question.
So why exactly should marijuana be legal? Well, there are many reasons both opinions and facts, but why does it need to be legal? According to many of my sources, marijuana has been found to be less dangerous than both alcohol and tobacco products. “Marijuana is safer than many over the counter drugs.” (Young, Francis L. 2) Judge Francis L. Young, from the DEA, declared that marijuana is one of the safest therapeutically active substances known to man. “Long term heavy marijuana use does not produce the severe or grossly debilitating impairment of memory, attention, and cognitive function found with chronic alcohol use.”(British Medical Journal Lancet 4) Only a small number of marijuana users eventually smoke enough of it for a long period to suffer impairments matching those ...
Marijuana should be legalized because of its medical use, and religious use, Legalizing Marijuana would also generate billions of dollars in revenues and taxes for the U.S. government; whereas prohibiting Marijuana would cost taxpayers billions of dollars every year. Marijuana has a medical use, which people with certain health problems can benefit from if marijuana is legalized.... ... middle of paper ... ... There isn’t any good reason why marijuana should be illegal, because researchers haven’t found any conclusive evidence that prolonged use of marijuana can damage the human brain or nervous system.
How many more times are you going to be lied to by the government? The government has made it seem like the marijuana plant is a drug that has no good use and is bad for the people. But that’s not true. They keep it illegal for reasons to benefit them. Marijuana has so many reasons why it should be legal. It should be legalized for 3 main reasons:It is safer than other substances that our legal, it could help with a wide range of different medical conditions, and it could be very beneficial and help the economy and industry.
There has always been controversy about marijuana and the affects it has on health and the issue of legalization. Some people believe it is very destructive to one’s health, and yet others feel the complete opposite about it. Is Marijuana truly harmful to one’s health? “Marijuana, the Deceptive Drug”, written by George Bierson, was published in the Massachusetts News. In this article, Bierson determines that marijuana is harmful in many ways. He seems to think that it damages the brain, the reproductive system, and also contributes to the halt of production in the immune system. Bierson also tries to persuade the reader that marijuana is a “gateway drug” that leads to larger drugs in the future. However, by conducting research of my own, I have come to the conclusion that Bierson’s article simply lacks truth.
In conclusion, marijuana, especially in combination with alcohol, is a very dangerous drug. After the effects were compared, I changed my point of view on the drug altogether. It may cause more damage to the body than tobacco, but the amount of tobacco smoked by far ough, or especially up to date, on the affects of marijuana that I could make the great decision of whether it should be legalized or not. After all, that is the main goal of all of these
