The Genetic Update Conference was surprisingly interesting and fascinating. There were many thought-provoking topics of discussion at the Conference. One of those main topics was Cancer and Genes. This topic was very informative and helped further educate others about the role of Genetics on Cancer. According to Sam Rhine, tumor can be best defined as diseases in which a single cell acquires the ability to proliferate abnormally, resulting in an accumulation of progeny. Genetic Engineering will be used to enhance others and treat them from Cancer. However, I believe it will only be available to a certain group of people. I don’t really know how much it is going to cost to use CRISPR to knock out ‘Bad’ genes and replace them with ‘Good’ genes. It sound very complicated and difficult, but I'm not quite sure about that. I think the cost should depend on how complicated it is to perform this type of procedure. If it costs less to perform, I believe others may take advantage of it to make a profit. If others decide to do that, I believe it is going to stun or slow down our progress in Genetics. With the help CRISPR we could potentially go against nature and what is natural for human beings. The reason why is because you will be modifying someone’s DNA, which is uncommon and goes against nature. This has never been done before. I believe this may cause a major conflict as this procedure will only be available to a certain country, and others will want to get their hands on this procedure to enhance themselves or someone else. There is no way to really find out what is going to happen in the next five years or so. The only thing we can really do is wait.
