You may know this ancient technique as selective breeding. All tamed animals and most agricultural crops are the result of thousands of years of selective breeding. Today, we can skip the long and flawed process of selective breeding, and instead use technological tools to control exactly the genes we need. To those who still worry about dangerous GMOs, the FDA has already solved the problem. All GMOs must be tested under strict conditions for safety before being released to the public. The scientists who make these GMOs are not mad scientists, they want their product to be safe so it will sell. Businesses will not buy a product that harms their customers. Genetic engineering is an invaluable tool in the agricultural and scientific industries. Before, techniques took years and were inherently flawed. Today, we can achieve the results we need to create a brighter future. In 2013, over 800 million people around the world were starving. The basic idea of genetic manipulation is to isolate a certain cell’s DNA and to mix it with the DNA victor to create a whole new cell with new characteristics. The problem though behind all that, is that its really hard to predict what the results are going to be.
