“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen. 1:1 ESV). Genesis is clear on how everything began. God created it. He spoke it into existence. God created, trees, birds, humans, everything; He called it good. (Gen. 1-2 ESV) In this time of creation, John points out that God was not alone, that the Word--Jesus--was not only with God but was a part of Him. Through Jesus all things were made. (John 1:1-3 ESV) Despite the perfect earth God created, He decided to give humans a very important choice: whether or not they wanted to love and obey Him. The first two humans, Adam and Eve, gave into temptation, and disobeyed God. (Gen. 3: 1-7 ESV) This was the first sin. 5:8 ESV) God did not leave us to our sin, but instead sent Jesus Christ to die on a cross, to take away the sins of the world (John 3:16 ESV). But Jesus did not stay dead. After three days, God raised Him from the dead. 1 Peter 1:3 makes it very clear, that, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we have hope. Jesus became our living hope. (ESV) The resurrection is also important for two other reasons: it guarantees our justification, and that we will receive perfect heavenly bodies (Grudem, 614-15). The fact that the resurrection guarantees our justification is supported by Romans 4:25 when it says, “... who was devilered up for our tresspasses and raised for our justification.”(Grudem, 614-15; ESV) The fact that the resurrection guarantees us perfect heavenly bodies is supported by 2 Corinthians 4:14 where it talks about us being raised with Jesus and brought into the kingdom of God. (Grudem, 614-15; ESV) Without Jesus, we as imperfect humans--falling short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23 ESV)--have would have no way of going to heaven to be with God (John 14:6 ESV). Jesus is calling out to you, all you need to do is answer him (Rev. 3:20; Rom. 10:13 ESV). Romans 10:9 also says, “... if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (ESV) We are being saved from a place “that burns with fire and sulfur”
